I got at this link http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=127;t=003204INFO:

The current version 4.01 (4.01m) is not compatible with the previous versions of the sim when playing over the network (Online). Both the server and client must have the appropriate versions in order to connect.

For your convenience, we have introduced different version numbers for the stand-alone installation and the merged (FB+AEP+PF) install.
4.01 – for stand-alone PF
4.01m – for merged (FB+AEP+PF)
Attention: versions 4.01 and 4.01m are not compatible with each other when playing over the network (Online).

Patch Installation Instructions (Please read carefully)

The 4.01 patch installs only over 3.03 or 3.04 (PF stand alone).
The 4.01m patch installs only over 3.03m or 3.04m (FB+AEP+PF merged).

In order to install this patch, run the following:

1) For Stand alone: PF_patch401.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
2) For Merged : PF_patch401m.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note that the merged version of Pacific Fighter will get all additions and features that are listed below, while the stand alone installation will only get the Pacific-specific ones marked by ‘*’.

New Features

Flight Model

V4.01 introduces the next generation pre-Battle of Britain Flight Model (FM). In this add-on we are introducing a part of the FM from our next simulation (BOB) for worldwide open beta test in our current engine. Flight model in the version 4.01 has already been extensively tested by nearly 40 real pilots from around the world and we received very positive feedback.
It is likely that some people may have a problem in their first attempts to fly with the new flight model, especially with take-offs and landings when FM is set to ‘realistic’. However, once you understand the differences and get used to it, everything will fall into place. We would like to point out that the new FM will take more system resources to run, especially when many aircraft are in the air at the same time. It doesn’t matter if it is human or AI, because our AI pilots use the same FM!

New Aircraft.

Flyable aircraft:
Ki-100-I-Ko, 1945 *
G4M1-11 Betty, 1941*
Spitfire MK.Vc (2), 1941 - 2 cannons, RAAF, Pacific.*
Spitfire MK.Vc (4), 1941 – 4 cannons, RAF, North Africa.
Mustang MK.III, 1944 - RAF only, 25 Lbs (8l inches) engine boost, 642 km/h on Sea Level
P-38L late, 1944 – 1720 hp engines.*
Buffalo MK I.*

AI aircraft:
Tempest MK.V, 1944
G4M2E Betty, 1945*
MXY7 Ohka, 1945*

Note:
1) First Mustangs MK.III of RAF with 25 Lbs boost were used from April 1944. By the end of the war in Europe almost all if not all British P-51C were equipped with this type of boost. The main purpose of this aircraft was low altitude fighting and interception of V-1 rockets. There is no description in any war time documents about replacement of the boost indicator on these planes. Based on that we believe that indicator was the same, but actual pressure shown by indicator was limited by its scale.

2) The P-38L with 1720 hp engines – about 2,000 aircraft of this type were produced and used on both European and Pacific theaters.

3) Instruction on how to use the G4ME2+MXY7 tandem when building your single or coop online missions can be found in the original manual of your game (using the TB-3+I-16 method. However, the AI behavior of the Betty + Ohka link will be different).

New clouds

The new patch introduces brand new clouds. In order to use them you must manually edit the conf.ini file located in your main game folder before launching the game. Open the file with a text editor, locate the [game] section and in the TypeClouds= line write in either 0 or 1, then save the file.

TypeClouds=0 - old clouds
TypeClouds=1 - new clouds

Note:
When playing online the player will see the cloud type set by the server, and not as individually set in their conf.ini. This is done to ensure all players see the same tactical situation in the air regardless of their settings.

New Dynamic Campaigns

Please check the campaign menu.

Specific plane features

NOTE: These features are only available at high realism setting.

Modifications and fixes

There is a large number of small modifications and fixes in the entire code of our simulation.
We accumulated users input and fixed lots of little and big things in order to “polish” our simulation even better. We sincerely thank all our users that were so helpful in the process!

Known issues:
Murmansk:
* Kildin Island airbase - heavy AI planes should land from the east only. There are hills in the circuit when landing from the west that heavier aircraft cannot avoid.
* Kirkenes airbase - when landing large numbers (10+) of big AI planes some will disappear on the runway instead of taxiing and parking. This has no effect on mission results.

Kurland:
* On some graphics cards/drivers parts of Memel airbase can disappear at medium distances. At landing distances all is as it should be. The cause is unknown.
* Rail Bridge missing south of Mitau.

Both Maps:
* Seaplane bases have just one airbase icon in the FMB instead of two as in Pacific Fighters. This is correct.

New Map FAQ:

Q. Why do you use German names in Kurland?
A. The region's towns often have separate German, Russian and Lithuanian or Latvian names. Many of those names only appeared after the war as borders changed or settlements got modern names. By sticking as far as possible to the German names we helped create a "period" feel and ensured a degree of consistency.
Q. On the Kurland winter map I can see the spaces between the airbase tiles and it's annoying.
A. Yes. On the Murmansk map we overlapped the tiles a bit and it causes some flickering but eliminates the spaces. It's one or the other and both have drawbacks. but ounOfficial over at the ubi forums they say you install over 4,00m .

First impressions - It's different, I think I will have to play around a bit before I can get back into the game, took me three attempts to get my Seafire off the carrier, and three to get back down.

Torque is much more present, watch it carefully or end up in the drink! All in all the FM feels better. New clouds look good too, AND they cleaned the Hellcat's canopy :D:

Talos2005
June 16th, 2005, 07:03
Yes, as Whitehawk said, FM becomes more difficult for carrier aircraft.

Normally, I fly Birdcage Corsair on Illustrious.
More yaw and roll under low speed especially after takeoff.
Approach to the deck is a little bit harder.....
Therefore, it is much more fun for me.

Unfortunately, markings keep abominable and under-researched for the Japanese planes. No doubt, I could not find any Japanese names on this patch credit.
No way. Il2 skin.com is on its way back! (Hire me, Oleg! I could give you much more good advices:D .....It is a Joke.)

Besides...... It is fun. Thanks for the team!!

Kind Regards,;)

First impressions of 4.0 and 4.01 (you can install 4.01 over 4.0)...I absolutely love it. This is a great improvement in FM's IMO. I tested the planes I always fly, Bf109 E4, F2, F4, and G2, also the Heinckel. The difference in the Bf109's is absolutely remarquable. The fighter feels much more nervous and nimble, it's fast, the turning rate seems better, and the best IMO: no sudden stalls anymore, and most for all, no sudden "snapping away" of the wings.

I also noticed more present differences in air-pressure zones (air-holes), especially in bad or unstable weather, and when flying really slow.

The clouds, most of all the new "overcast" ones, are fantastic. Mix that up with rain or snow and you get the most dramatic weather. No FPS drop here on my side, but some have claimed they got a little.

AI: that one feels much better as well. No more incrediible moves, no more UFO's. Oleg said they now use the exact same FM as you, and you can really see it. I think this and the generally reworked FM are THE main qualities of this patch.

There is more to say, because they also reworked damage modeling, but I haven't flown it enough to comment about it.

Actually, the word "patch" for this one is misleading. It's a complete revision of the game. IL2 is now certainly one of the hottest airwar sims of the market. An unmissable experience.

thanks to Mr Maddox and the 1C team, also to all the beta-testers for this one! :icon29: :icon29: :icon29:

P-40B's handling is improved remarkably on land.

No more strange waggling!!!
Just a little bit strong tendency of pitching takes place during a take-off run with early full throttle.

I am impressed.

NoSubTitles=0

Hope this helps. New clouds are amazing.

June 17th, 2005, 02:49
I don't think you need to put the line in to have the new clouds? IIRC I read on the UBIsoft forums that they are on by default.

The Seafire feels A LOT more sensitive in the pitch axis, my first prang was due to torque pulling me off the deck, the next two due to nose-overs bending the spinny bit, that gunsight hurts :blind:

I like it, I now have to re-learn the game :D:

grunau_baby
June 17th, 2005, 03:15
The new FM and AI are great, but really something to get used to again. Having severe dificulties of just landing with aircraft I had no problems with before. The torque is very present. Hard to aim with a BF109. But the rollrates feel much more natural than before, not just control-touchy. I never had a chance with a Hellcat against zeros before, even though this plane was a perfect match for the zeros. Now it is possible to defeat them. Thus more realism with the new FM and AI (have to test them yak3-AI, they always were miraculously behind me before , no matter what I did. This wicked spell should actually be over by now).

Love to fly in thunderstorms or rain/snow, those new clouds make for a whole new game-experience.

KOM.Nausicaa
June 17th, 2005, 04:35
I never had problems with take-off and landing in this new patch, but I'm always very careful anyway. (must be a left over from my avhistory days.....arrrgh....that breaking tailwheels!)

This clouds thing is confusing me. If they can only be turned on via the config.ini file then this should be clearly written in the readme. And why would the patch not simply overwrite the config.ini then? We must not forget that many players never overwrite anything and get pale when you ask them to.
(we are flightsim geeks guys, but not everybody is! lol)

KOM.Nausicaa
June 17th, 2005, 09:47
ok seems that grunau_baby was right about the clouds. You have to set them manually, they are not there by default.

Rooster,

unfortunately almost all people today who play one servers like Hyperlobby use the merged install IL2Fb+AEP+PF. You have to patch this merged install up to version 4.01 to get compatibel with 90% of the online rooms.

If you have further questions please ask.

Rooster,

you are going to need a lot more than the patches to play most of the online servers...i don't think there are hardly any IL2FB only servers.

you will need the Aces Expansion Pack (AEP). it is a payware addon cd. then you will need Pacific Fighters which is a stand alone game but can be merged with IL2 and AEP. then you will need to patch that up to 4.01.

Maybe I've killed off more memory cells than I thought, but wasn't there talk of other flyables such as an Avia and a Fokker? Wasn't there even a poll on the ubisoft PF website as to which plane folks were looking forward to the most? Oh well I guess it is kind of like the betty on the box. Anyway, I'm not trying to whine - I'm just curious...

...but wasn't there talk of other flyables such as an Avia and a Fokker? I guess the mossie, Ju88 and Fokker etc. will have to wait for the next patches. The new FM really was the big news about 4.01. By the way the Fokker was not meant to be flyable, many of the anounced are just AI. But sometime in the future all those open developments might at least get into the BoB + Addons, for example: http://battle-of-france-add-on.france-simulation.com/index.php?op=index.php

re. the new clouds, I too was a bit confused by the bit in the read me that said you have to manually edit the config file to add the new clouds. I started flying before reading the read me and the first thing I noticed was.......new clouds.
So for me at least the new clouds were on by default, unless, that is, there are some other newer new clouds??????????

Anyway this patch is a HUGE improvement as we have finally got a credible AI, in fact as an off-line player I'd more or less given up on IL2/PF due to the appallingly unrealistc AI behaviour.

Now this is FUN!!!!!!!

I have installed version 4.01 as I only have pacific fighters, which, even though im a cfs player, I find very good. KOM.Nausicaa
July 1st, 2005, 05:18
Hi Potock,

personally I haven't noticed any loss of perfomance. I just set up a couple of missions using the new clouds (bad weather etc) and everything goes just fine.
But there are indeed people that claim FPS loss with the new clouds, I read some posts like that over at UBI and also SimHQ.

I guess it may very well depend on individual components of the machine; which graphic card, driver, how much RAM etc. I have a Nvidia 5600 (a little out-dated now but still doing the job), 1024 RAM and a 3,2 Ghz Intel processor.

In your case I would propose to have a look at the slider settings. Do you have anything running in perfect mode, then reduce it a bit. A good idea is also to reduce colors from 32 to 16. That can help a big deal, and I personally think you do not see much the difference in IL2 anyway. (ok, except when looking really close to things like dust or explosions). Also, I found that running the game in DirectX brings way better perfomance then in Open GL (no stutters anymore for me).....but that doesn't mean it applies for everyone.

Awesome
July 11th, 2005, 11:52
I installed it and FINALLY (a month or more later) used it, and the clouds are great, no FPS loss, and the FM's are drasticly improved. I tried for almost an hour to take off from a carrier and got to the point where I could go off the END of the carrier, but still didn't actually fly. So I gave up till I fly again next time. :p
