Just purchased and wanted to have a quick look before I head back to work. No time to fly, boooooooo.

The visual model is amazing (typical of Alabeo/Carenado).
The detailing on the external model are just great.
The rear left side door behind the pilot's seat seems to stick out a little and not sit flush with the aircraft, but I'm not sure the real one does either.
The repaints are excellent and seem very precise and clear.
The pilot figure is quite detailed and proportionate to the aircraft.
The VC seems somewhat confined but is highly detailed and looks "cozy". It is like the aircraft wraps around you.
The gauges seem well placed and clear. I love the texturing on the cockpit glass, it provides a depth to the windscreen.
VC visibility below seems a little limited which coincides with what I have heard regarding the real aircraft.

I am a little iffy on the sounds. They sound very good, but is it a Waco sound? I'm not sure. I pictured a Waco sounding more choppy/thumpy like some of the Waco aircraft from Golden Age Simulations. The Alabeo offering sort of reminds me of a more refined engine sound (my description prob sucks). I could be completely wrong here regarding accuracy though.

I iwll add my thoughts on how she flies later when I get home from generating tax revenue. Sorry if the quick thoughts don't offer much.

The plane looks excellent and doesn't sound too bad. However, the flight model seems a bit "easy"...

Sound should be more on the tame and humming side, as the pictures show the two exhausts of a ring silencer which pretty much washes out the sound you hear of every cylinder by itself.

I really like the optics, but I donīt know if it is something for me, as I scarcely fly anything but accusimmed warbirds these days if I fire up FSX. I like an engine that needs to be convinced to start... Nothing negative about this one for sure, the external model is an achivement on itīs own judging from the screens! And these aircraft werenīt warbirds, so they arenīt made to squeeze out the last bit of performance, but reliability and performance, I guess.

Is there a vintage cockpit, too?

Sounds are correct for a newly made, modern built aircraft as the YMF-5 D is depicted by Alabeo, as far as I am concerned.

Bernt Stolle flight dynamics, really need to say more?
(No. It's not "RealAir", doesn't claim to be either.)

Cockpit is wonderfully 'cozy', as it should be.
Love the option of putting a cover on over the passenger compartment up front.

Beautiful, inside and out.

Best offering from Alabeo yet, IMHO, and a must own and have in your hangar if you love biplanes priced at $20USD.

BTW, the sunken tailwheel and the missing free castoring tailwheel have been changes from Alabeo I just discovered in the release version. (Apparently there have been bouncing issues with non-acceleration user during the beta)

For those who want the correct tailwheel back, exchange the first line in the contact points section with this (the original) one.

All that great WACO texturing is ruined by the WACKO wood prop animation. It stops and stutters during operation, simulating no prop I've ever seen. ??? The audio is strange. From the pit it sounds pretty good, but externally it sounds like a DC3, but flys like a Cessna 150. :isadizzy: Oh, and give us Barbi as the pilot option instead of GI Joe.

So I'll give it 3.5 stars on the moose turd rating scale.

$20, gee, I wonder if this model is as butchered as the 300s was when it comes to applying paint to it? I'm skeptical.
To me, the ability to paint it is half my interest. 2/3rd's even!

If you have never actually seen a Waco then i suggest you do some research before moaning about this product! It aint a stearman, it aint a tiger moth, its not of that eara. It may look old but having had the pleasure of working next to a RW distributor for 4 days i realised all my preconcived notions about a waco were completely wrong.

Look at the sales pitch!

I have to hold the stick forward to keepo the nose down.

*EDIT* Nevermind. It looks like my stick lost calibration. Wonder how that happened. *Stares at 4 yr old copilot*

Very nicely done plane :) Great job on the FDE Bernt:salute: It handles like I imagined it would, kind of like the Golden Age Sim Waco ASO...just a big comfortable cruiser, kind of like a Honda Goldwing or Harley Electra Glide or somthing. This is great, now I have this YMF for my modern Waco, along side my favorite ASO for my vintage Waco...then with the CTO, which is the agile aerobatic Waco. :mixedsmi: I like my WACOs...kind of prefer them to the Stearmans for some reason.

Just some minor gauge issues that I can tell. The clock 'mode' doesn't work...I assume it switches between local and zulu. Wouldn't mind seeing the timer functions or at least the timer mode functions work on the transponder :)

I can't seem to find much in the way of documentation such as POH or checklists. I am just going by what I learned flying the GAS Wacos for power settings and speeds and seems to work fine.

Cheers

pilottj
August 30th, 2012, 00:25
No paintkits that I can see. There are blank white textures like usual Carenado releases. You have to use your paint program, then duplicate the blank textures as multiply layers. That way you can usually paint under the rivet and panel lines pretty well.

Dain Arns
August 30th, 2012, 15:37
I guess some folks (EDIT: But NOT TeiscoDelRay) are still confused about this modern aircraft... :isadizzy::icon_lol:

In March 1986, the first WACO YMF Classic rolled off the assembly line and received FAA certification under the original WACO type certificate. With more than 5000 labor hours of fine craftsmanship hand-built into each aircraft, it’s no wonder the WACO YMF was hailed as an aeronautic thoroughbred. This unique biplane was not a rebuild or a kit plane, but a brand new FAA certified production aircraft, with such improvements as the use of sturdy 4130 steel for the fuselage frame, modern hydraulic toe brakes, and advanced avionics.

That's fine. I got to sit in one of the first ones delivered at a local Fly-In in the late 80's myself. :jump:
Sorry, but your previous comment was rather vague at wanting a vintage version of a Waco instead? Like a UPF instead, right?
I wouldn't mind a FSX native 'Golden Era' QF2 version Waco myself. :salute:

However, there still seems to be a misunderstanding among a few that the Alabeo created YMF is wrong for having a modern cockpit.
It's not. That's the point.
Yes, I do think that point has to be made.
And yes, in fact they do come with available with glass cockpits these days, folks.

This is a wonderfully crafted addon of a modern made biplane.
It truly is what one is.
And a seriously fun one at that. :icon_lol:

I cant seem to download the package. :(

I have set up the account, purchased, and for some reason, it hangs up at 99% and will not continue. I have tried two times. I dare not do it a third as you are only allowed to download it 3 times.

Anyone else have issues downloading the file?

Bill

Hello Bill,

Well, bought the Waco 15 mns ago, downloaded with a download manager and have the same issue, hangs at 99%, i had also the little white bar on the top of the window when clicking on the Alabeo purchase link, which use the "standard" download method and everything worked well !
Don't know exactly what's all about the hang up stuff but maybe try downloading with the "standard" method.
Cheers.

Bonjour Cirrus,

Looking for this especially good "what if" rendition of a Vichy Waco that you were working on; did you publish it somewhere or will you be uploading it to the Outhouse soon?

While searching for the skin, I ended up on Facebook and noticed that you also have an RAF and early US Navy skins in the works; will they also become available ?

Thanks and looking forward to flying your work.

Bonjour Cirrus,

Merci beaucoup for the link and the skins !

They are very nice additions to a gorgeous aircraft...

Followed your advice and no problems with the transfer to a temporary file and then integrate in FSX file.

Now if I can get my hands on the "Vichy" coloured textures, that would really "make my day"...:jump:

I purchased the Waco today and cannot install it. I sent a support question to Alabeo but have not received an answer yet. I only sent it a few minutes ago, but I thought I would ask for help here too. During install I am asked for a "serial number". I enter the "Key" I received at purchase. I get a "invalid serial number" response. Anyone know where I should have gotten the "serial number" when I bought the Waco. I have downloaded all the great repaints and can't wait to fly this airplane.

Oddly, what it tries to dowload is this; ALWC.zip.k3dagzt On the desktop, it shows that it is a HTML file. It hangs at 99%.

So.. I tried.

Apparently this "company" is a start up basement type, being run from one person's computer, and he decided to take the weekend off, immediately after releasing what he should have known was going to be their most popular product. So, as far as any support of any kind goes, we apparently are out of luck until??? This is to bad, as the modeler seems to be very good, but the groups business practices leave a lot to be desired. This could quickly cause the sudden demise of what could have been, and still may become, a very good company. IF they learn some business principles.

Just one of the many, hopefully only temporarily, unhappy customers who really really want this beautiful piece of software.

To everybody having problems downloading the Waco: avoid using Download Managers, as they can often intercept the wrong link and can lead to problems and corrupted files. Using a DLM for a tiny 65MB file is completely unnecessary anyway. Also, when I purchased the Waco the servers were a bit overloaded. After clicking on the link a new tab opened and sat there with the title "Loading" and the rotating "busy" circle for several minutes before it actually started downloading. Just be patient and don't click on the link again and again, because that will only deplete the available re-downloads without being of any help and also stress the servers even more. Paying via credit card worked without a hitch.

Hey Patrick,

This has never happened before. I have tried it with Internet Explorer 9, Safari and Opera, and they do not work. I have recently purchased Aerosoft Scenery, 2 payware planes, many programs, many zip files, and all worked. I have never had this occur before. The file hangs at 99% and never finishes, except once, with Opera, and it saves it as something that the browser is supposed to open, as though it were an HTML. All other file types I download simply save to the desktop or downloads folder as a zip file.

:(

Oh Bernt, Dave here. What could be causing the Waco's nose to hunt about 15 either side? The turn indicator's pretty lively - standard rate to standart rate and the ball's alive in the race.

I do apologise for making you part from your hard earned cash, but you won't regret it, it is a wonderful model.

That's the first time I read about uncommanded 30deg heading changes. On my systems she's very stable in the yaw axis due to the big fin/rudder. Can't even remotely replicate your problem....
15deg is about the maximum I can achieve with full rudder deflection! Maybe autorudder is enabled?

The prop was one of the updates in the last service pack. Much better now in terms of animation behavior.

random sudden yaw events in FSX are usually caused by one of two things, twisty stick / rudder pedal deterioration (solved by increasing or creating a dead zone for the rudder axis)
or the extremely poor "wind gust" default effect - even 3PD haven't really solved the poor rendition of wind gusts in FSX - I uncheck that thing in FSX settings for my part

Thank you for these, Jankees - I have been hoping you would jump into the Waco and do some magic in the paint booth

these are terrific as usual - do you think you might also make them available in US registry?

do you think you might also make them available in US registry?

I had no plans, why, do you really want that? There are already so many N-regs that I try to cater for the other countries..
Besides, why not a 'real' US reg bird?

I appreciate the Shockwave lights as most lights are iffy at best in Dx10 but Shockwave seem to work from all viewing angles.:applause:
