Funny, I was up late last night attempting to splice/merge another native (Eaglecraftrotor) model version of Mario's classic P180 with the VC from Alex Roja's native Citiation X. Bit of a Frankenstein job I admit (!) but was hoping for a higher res vc to look at. It didn't work for some reason -but what do you know, the very next day here is a new version 3.0 with a much upgraded vc, animations etc. Thank you Mario!

File Description:
This is a true FS-X (SP2) SDK aircraft! Version 3.0 brings an entirely new cockpit (2D/3D, 2D panel available in Widescreen and 4/3) and cabin down to almost every single switch, entirely new flight dynamics, advanced systems and avionics, new sound and panel sound effects, and much more! The Piaggio P-180 is a high-speed high-efficiency turboprop aircraft. Capable of speeds up to 395 KTAS (or M0.68) up to its service ceiling of 41000ft. This performance is achieved by extreme aerodynamic optimization instead of sheer power. The end result is an aircraft that burns 40% less fuel than the average jet of comparable size, while flying at the same speed range, or 30% less than an equivalent size turboprop, as it flies much faster. The pusher propellers on the wings mounted much backwards thanks to the forward wing set make it a comfortable and quiet ride for the passengers, that also enjoy a very spacious cabin for an aircraft of this size. Features Clickable Dynamic Photortreal VC with Night Lighting, night lighted internals, Photoreal 2D Cockpit, Engine start Effect, advanced FDE, Customizable Payloads.

Thanks for the news. This plane was my favorite turbo-prop in FS9, and I flew it quite often in FSX too.

Yeah, she is a bit of a shock at first sight not being at all a conventional design, but she can grow on you, like some women.;)

Yeah, she is a bit of a shock at first sight not being at all a conventional design, but she can grow on you, like some women.;)

LOL at first I thought you wrote, "she can grow you" and I was thinking... yeah some women do that!!!

that said, i've always loved the way the avanti looks. the guy that designed it, who ever that is, created something unequaled in all of history afaik

Well it is absolutely bloody brilliant to fly!! Been doing "charters" up and down the US Northeast coast and having a blast. The avionics are very thorough and sophisticated. There are some automated climb and descend modes yet this is not the current generation glass panel/avionics suite on the Avanti II so there is lots of stuff to keep you busy. And it all works! The flight model is superb and big improvement of all the versions previously. This is on a par or better than the venerable Falcon 50 as far as overall "feel" and satisfaction. Congratulations Mario!

401 TAS 28,000 ft above Cape Cod - terrific performance.

I've limped through FSX with my patched together P-180 in fabulous Ferrari skin and had a lot of enjoyable flights although limited because of the panel. Now its not only beautiful to watch, its a treat to do the flying. Just downloaded it and I can already feel the driving pull of those engines and the canards cutting the air before the wing. New life for a sleek Italian racer, thank you Mario.

I have yet to get the thing started. Using everything I can think of including (heaven forbid) the checklist. Plenty of fuel, all switches set correctly, fuel flow open. . . .crank, crank, crank, crank, nothing.

Hmmm. Unlike 97% of all my turboprops that drive me batty not starting, this one wants to light every time. Go figure. Expect, Ed, you have tried your Ctrl + Shift + F4 to open the fuel/mixture etc? Might be worth starting from the default Cessna cold and dark. I can attest that like you the LAST thing to try is the manual! Much more fun figuring it all out yourself through trial and much error! The less of the latter the better once airborne. The manual, which I did have a peak at re the AP and it is detailed and helpful. Only thing I would like to tweak is to make the glass windscreen and windows darker.

Hey, thanks for the HU on this. One of these buggers passes near us several times a week. The buzzing of those twins are unmistakable and I have to say that the sound set included with this sim is a fairly good representation of the external flyby. Nice one! Good piece of modeling too, although it seems the canopy looks a little oversized, or the pilot is a little small. ?

Pilot looks a mite tiny. I've marshaled these on the ramp before and overall, they are fairly small. Talking Citation II/Bravo sized. Mario's model looks like it's the size of a Hawker 800, if the pilot is the right scale that is. Not that I'm not going to fly it :-)

Saw one flying out of BUR on Saturday. It screaming into the sky -- only the engine sound alerted me to watch closely and discover it wasn't just another boring bizjet. Beautifully weird plane.

downloaded this model but didn't get the chance to really check it out until last night.

this one, imo, is MUCH better than the original.

Sharing another discussion re Mario's continuing work on the vc texture resolution and in case some of the diverse and experienced talent here may also have some ideas.

Sometimes it is not how beautiful they are, it's how beautiful they sound. We have one that regularly flies into KDAN (Danville, VA) and it has the most unique sound you'll ever hear, nothing that's flies over my house (on the KDAN flight path for Runway 20) even remotely has that sound, I know instantly when it's landing.

Thanks a bunch, I do like the plane, one of the few small tubes that I do.

credit where credit is due. We need to thank all who work so hard to give us freeware, whether you like it or not.

I will have to say after taking this on a flight from Ketchican to Juneau (just got back from a cruise), this is really an outstanding piece of work! Many thanks from me.

Now, Can SOMEONE do a KC-135? We have the CS B-52, Virtulava B-1, and lots of other aircraft with inflight refueling but with no tanker (FSX not AI). Come to think of it, there are no plastic model kits out there either. Not right for such a significant aircraft.

Well, in terms of beauty I think we can call this one "special". I like it, honnestly.
When it comes to the model itself, it's simply excellent, not only for its 3D shapes, but also for the textures, crisp and clear.
The virtual cockpit could use some HD textures, that's true, but I think it already looks quite good for freeware. It's also very interractive, a lot of stuff is clickable and the plane is a joy for short to medium IFR flights. In fact, back in my FS9 days, I use to put it on par with the famous freeware TBM700.
