Any thoughts about this motherboard? I've never had a DFI board. Reason for considering this board instead of other X48 boards is because this one allows use of DDR2 instead of DDR3.

David I like DFI boards. I'm afraid I don't know much about this one. While you will save money with the DDR2 memory you may regret that later as DDR3 comes into its own...and then again, maybe not. It depends on how far out you are buying for...1 year etc.
