I haven't flown CFS2 in a long long time. I loved everything about it but never messed with it again after the Zone no longer supported it. I'm just curious of how far things have come with it. I noticed a bombsight on a B24 in one of the threads, can you actually go to gunner stations et. al.? Can you drop bombs in MP yet? Has anyone ever gotten Bombrun program to run in XP? Does anyone even know what I'm talking about? It sounds like there are a bunch of addons like MTO and ETO, where can I find more info on them? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions but lately I've thought of dusting off the old disks and loading them back onto the PC. I've really missed having a world map in a combat sim.

Apologies if I'm out of line on anything,

John

From your questions, I can tell it has been a long, long time. And the short answer is to suggest that you just do a quick review of the Addons sections to see what is available....a lot has happened and a lot has been done that was thought to be impossible. :friday:

No gunner stations, but almost everything else has been fixed. There have been huge advances in scenery, vehicles, ships, planes, flight models, et cetera ad naseum.

AND,

Search for threads by MiamiEagle up in the "Search" dropdown menu.
He is the unofficial resident keeper of the "must have" add-ons info.
You will find enough to make your head spin.......:isadizzy:

Or, PM him and ask him to send you a PM with the links. He already has a bunch of threads on here about what will make you not recognize the CFS2 you flew.

Start out slowly! If you add too much, too fast, you will get crashes to desktop and get frustrated with some of he idiocincracies(sp) of the new and improved CFS2. If you run into problems, there are some real experts on here that can guide you to the solutions.

I have all of the "TRUSTED" add-on sites saved as favorites in my browsers.

Oh, and YES, CFS2 runs flawlessly on XP. Dependent upon your system set up, you might be able to max out all of your settings and REALLY enjoy flying around the world. All of our airbases now have refueling....

Oh, and Welcome to the outhouse!

Welcome to the Basement (as we call the CFS2 forum). You will find a lot of nice, helpful, knowledgeable folks here. How much has changed in CFS2?

There are now Civil War era battle ships that you can pilot and do broadside battles with.

There are now pilotable submarines that you can dive to periscope depth and torpedo other ships.

ETO, MTO, Eastern Front. Korean War. WWI. Vietnam in the works (no air to air missles however).

More scenery than you can look at in a life time.

Sound packs that will make your ears bleed.

Planes, planes and more planes.

I think that you will find that CFS2 is far removed from what it was when you were playing it originally.

Polecat,

I'm not sure how long you've been away, but here are some screenshots of freeware aircraft that have been released in the past several years. They are all of the highest quality. The Sim-Outhouse also sells Donationware...CFS2 top-quality aircraft available for peanuts, the proceeds of which help keep this site running. In fact, if you look on top of the CFS2 forum, Ickie gave the B-17 and Mustang packs as a Christmas gift! :wavey:

Not to mention China,Burma and ALaska plus Australia and basicaly anywhere in the World you feel like flying over or mimic a World war two mission through your Miision Builder.

It can be done with this Sim. Other Sims are also great but this one is the only one that gives you this capability.

Some of us forgot to mention the Biggest collection of Navy Ships available of any flying Combat Sim at ths momment in time.

Enjoy and watch your Six!:ernae:

Then, there are airbases stretching from India to Egypt, from Norway and Long Island to Queensland and Korea! Not to mention all the other cool stuff. :d

WOW!! To give you an idea of the time frame I played in -- Shortly after the release of CFS2 (still played CFS1 since there was still a large community) up until a few months passed the release of CFS3 (Was really, really dissappointed with CFS3, though they've done great things with it now). What I really miss is the online play. I miss the Island Hop rooms in the zone and Lae/ Salamua Bombrun games. How is online play now? Does anyone still do it? Is there a server like the Zone still around? Does anyone remember the Bombrun program? (dual booted my PC with Win98 just so I could use it).

I appreciate the info guys and I'll be sure to look for the links to addons.

Cheers,

John

OK guys one more question. It seems lately that I cannot live without my TrackIR. Is CFS2 TrackIR compatible?

Thanks,

John

Website with a utlity that could make Tracker adaptable to CFS2.

http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie (http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie)

You will need to find or write a script, so this is not for the technicaly challenged.
