Thank you. I saw the F8 but like you, not sure when the update will be available. I'm now off to take a look at the payware version and Virtavia.

Well, after taking a look at the Virtavia model, I decided not to purchase it. (Everyone please notice that I am simply stating a preference. That's all.)

Although I have not yet downloaded it, I am assuming from the original thread posts that the FS9 model also works well in FSX, even though an FSX update appears to be imminent.

Jon is working dilligently on wrapping up the coding on ours so we can get her in to beta testing. So we have no firm, or even guesstimated date at this point when she will hit the store. Once we get her into beta and we start nailing down some features/eliminating the basic bugs going to give you guys some more info.

I finally got the basepack from Avsim. Still NO JOY in FSX. That is unless I want to fly it IFR as I can't see outside the cockpit. I'm just going to give up on this airplane for FSX. For the time being, when I want to fly an F86, I'll do it in FS9.

Right after I posted my initial inquiry, I noticed the thread about Milviz's F86. It looks really good. Since it is a dedicated FSX product, there should be no issues with seeing outside from inside the virtual cockpit. Thanks Roadburner 440 for the heads up.

Again, nobody take any offense at me, but it has been my limited experience that if you want an FSX airplane it is best to wait for a "Native" version. Far less hassels that way.

1. Regarding the Sabre - Your issues have to do with you having the wrong files. I'm not at my sim pc, or I'd happily point you to where to get them. It is a simple FSX pack that has everything you need. This aircraft has been flown in FSX Accell for years successfully. In my case, the only issue I've not resolved is night-time panel lighting - but others seem to have no issue, so I'm suspecting some funky issue on my end. Of course, It's your prerogative to wait on Milviz's or not.

2. Regarding your opinion of ports : As a general statement, your last paragraph is completely untrue, and belies, as you point out, "limited experience" with FSX. It assumes that that all ports are fraught with problems, and it assumes that for every FS9 model, there is an FSX model en route. Needless to say, neither is the case. Not knocking that you're new to FSX (we all were at some point), nor that you have an opinion (who doesn't?) - but I believe you're shortchanging yourself on some good FS9 models that I can virtually guarantee will never be developed as FSX native projects.

Some portovers are indeed "hassels" [sic]. The Cloud9 Starfighter, as an example. However, many are not. Doug's Firefly, as an example, needs but a simple prop/canopy texture fix that makes it perfectly usable in this sim. The Alphasim RF-4 Phantom (from pack #3) is another perfect example. Roger, Don, (and others) have been uploading fixes for years, that once installed, make these and a whole host of other models perfectly useable. David Maltby's BAC-111 is another perfect example of a successful port-over with virtually ZERO needed to make it work. The phenomenal FS2002 (yes, 2002!) Dassault Falcon 50 has been worked over by a team including our Vonstreim, and others to result in a model easily rivals payware quality. The list, as seen in a "portover thread" here is in the scores, if not hundreds of examples. Of course, the work behind these projects is sometimes considerable - but from the users' point of view, the fixes/upgrades take no time to install or apply - and give life to an aircraft that would almost certainly never otherwise fly in FSX.

In the case of the F-86, you're fortunate that (likely) within a few months, you can have a true FSX model. But in the case of other FS9 aircraft - particularly Cold War jets - you needn't write them off carte blanche.

Again, not taking offense - I've developed none of these FS9 models. I'm only saying that re-visiting your assumptions will lead you to a different conclusion - at least for some of the FS9 gems.

Hope that helps ...

If you have a link, I'd appreciate getting it. Seems like the Section 8 Download Center takes me to OZx website. I have found paints for the Section 8 F-86 there but not the base model. So I could use a point.

Thank You.

PS: I should have added in my earlier post that I've used the SectionF8 in FSX Acceleration, not DX10, as I don't have it. Cannot comment on whether or it works well with DX10 - I'm sure others have tried and can comment.

Not quite sure what happened to me. Prior to making the request to delta_lima, I went to the Section 8 web site and the Download Center and it listed about 5 categories of .zip files. Every time I clicked on one, I was re-routed to the Aussie web site of OZx with basically Australian airports and scenery and other items. There were ONLY 3rd-party repaints for the F-86 there.

ANYWAY, Thanks to BigTool4U. delta_lima and fxsttcb for the help and the links :salute:

Probably not going to really help anyone at this point, but if you have a copy, or know someone with a copy, of PC Pilot magazine issue 59 (Jan-Feb 2009) the F8 F-86 was included on their freeware CD along with a full review article. They liked it a lot.

Godspeed.

Stefano, thank you very much for this link. I downloaded and installed it. Took it up for a quick test hop before this posting. All systems worked fine.

Back in 1966 while flying Blind Bat out of Ubon RTAF Base, there was a RAAF detachment there. They were flying F-86s. We took the commander up on a mission over the "Trail" with us one night.

Hey RD,

I'd like to try this when I get a minute - it has been the sole thing about this model (in FSX) that's bugged me to no end - that I can't get the night lighting to work. I'd certainly be very happy with what you've just shown. Looks pretty good to me! :ernae:.

You've definitely done some nice paints and really liked your Bronco series. I'm looking forward to what you'll make on the upcoming Skyhawk from Virtavia. Also, did you ever finish your European One variant of the Bronco? You were on a roll for a while. When you stopped, I figured you got a bit burned out.

Also, with regard to the posted Milviz pics, I just thought the dragon looked really cool and am always amazed how many real world paints you and others are able to reproduce. Thanks for your work and all other painters.

I gotta admit, that too is a stunning model. I actually got to see what I can only assume was a contractor DACT version here at McChord, about 10 years ago. It was parked at McChord and was here for about 2 weeks. I don't recall if the F-15's were still stationed at McChord or not. Perhaps it was working the Oregon ANG and Alaskan Air Command birds, but still a very cool site and sound, nonetheless.

Whilst the freeware one has to be one of the best freeware offerings out there, I just know the Milviz will be better . The difference would be sitting in the vc and (possibly) the fde . I feel fairly confident and assume the vc is of no less a quality than already produced by Milviz in their F15 or T38 . Looking forward to it since most of my time is in the cockpit. :)

This is the line in my aircraft config file. The effect is the one I did for full's Ercoupe. I was trying to simulate a single redlamp illuminating the panel. I hope you get good results with it.
