Following on from the Spirit of St. Louis I decided the next conversion would be the Vickers Vimy, here's a screen shot showing the Native version.

Once it has been beta tested I will post a download link.

That's great Craig! I've had it ported over since I got FsX:ernae:

Same here !
The model of this plane was quite good, including the textures, and the virtual cockpit was really great !
Only problem was the textures on the engines when viewing from the VC. They were quite blurry. The rest of the plane was cool :)

Sounds great and opens some remarkable possibilities. The Vimy replica which is now in Brooklands has done three reanactments of the three record breaking flights the Vimies have done in the interwar years by flying the Atlantic, to South Africa and to Australia. The replica had different engine installations and different paintjobs in all these flights so I wonder if they can be reproduced. Any takers?

I've said before that I enjoy flying old aircraft in FSX a lot when they represent restored examples or replicas, as in this way it looks believable to have them in the modern FSX environment. Flying the "Silver Queen" replica Vimy over modern Cairo or G-EAOU over Taj Mahan would be great:

I would not cross the Atlantic in FSX with it though...:icon_lol:

This is great! Many thanks for converting all these to fsx native.

Having done some testing for Craig, here are a few screenshots. Although the aircraft can take quite a while to turn, it is made better through a lot of rudder and even differential throttle. I also like trying my hand at doing some gentle wing-overs with it. Like another long-distance designed aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis, it only needs an exceptionally small percentage of the over-all fuel load in order to fly for a few hours. With the Vimy, I only have the main fuel tank filled at 5% for any given flight. I remember the early days of FS9, and trying to fly this and the Spirit at full fuel loads, and couldn't understand why they were so hard to get off the ground. : )

LOL me too, in fact I think that was last time I tried flying the Vimy.
Looking forward to trying the update when its done.

Did someone mentioned the Vega was updated ? I must have missed that one, I have the Jenny and the Spirit but no Vega :(
Linky ?
EDIT: belay that request I just found it in the Spirit of St. Louis thread thanks.

The Vega and Wright Flyer are the only ones not yet FSX native (considering FSX comes with the DC-3 and Piper Cub, and CR Simulations as a very nice FSX native Ford Trimotor, which is very much the same as the FS9 Trimotor, but better). Although I can't speak outright for Craig, I'd imagine the Vimy files will be available shortly, as they were with the Spirit of St. Louis.

True. I have CR Sims Trimotor and it is very good, I like it.
The FS trimotor model is a slightly different variant.
There are some paints available for the FS Trimotor that would be nice to have:

Not wanting to put anymore pressure on you Full, I know you have a very full plate.
Just a suggestion. LOL. :icon_lol:

Oh, and thank you for converting the Vimy!

I unzip this file and it did not show in FSX then I got to looking and noticed there is no .air file nor any sound file either.
At least the copy I grabbed here doesn't have the file.

Because you need to use the .air, panel, and sound files from your existing FS9 installation or your FS9 Discs to complete the plane.
The only thing in the .zip are the files that have been modified to make the plane FSX native.

I'll have to grab this model when I get home. I just spent about an hour looking at and taking photos of the real(?) G-EAOU at Adelaide Airport. Probably took about 200 photos in case someone wanted to model it, but it looks like someone has already done a great job. It's behind glass so the photos aren't that good anyway, but it's cool to see the plane up close.

Cheers,

The point of my posting was to act as a reminder for me when I have the time. Any updates to the thread are communicated to e-mail. Which is quite a handy facility. :encouragement:
