Gents,

In LESS than 2 hours REX Essential for FSX and Prepar3D will be released... FREE to all of our current customers. If you do not own REX, the flightsimstore.com will have it ready as well. Visit our forum and get verified so you may have access to the free update when it's released. Our forum has a countdown timer, and once it counts down, we will release the product as well as our new website. Be sure to check out the site for more information at that time! http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com

Cheers,
Tim

Who knew today would be the day the credit card gets burned up? Looking forward to release guys! Be great to have a proper weather engine in FSX, and just in time for hurricane season too.

Hi Bone, for those of us who upgraded to the overdrive version we will have to wait until further in the week to get Rex Essentials due to some coding changes.
As far as the brief description of Rex Essential :isadizzy:, I don't think their is one lol. See this link

So if I don't have any REX product I should be good then? Probably should uninstall FEX though I imagine.

Beware that the version released is for REX2 users and not for REx2 Overdrive users. The second will be release later on i guess. :salute:

I wonder how long the Overdrive folks (like myself) will have to wait? Not that it matters too much. They are offering this as a free upgrade. I am very thankful to the REX team for this. I look forward to it!

...Can this be installed over the existing install or do I need to uninstall REX2 and Overdrive beforehand?

limjack
May 27th, 2012, 18:13
Overdrive folks like you and i will have to wait days...not weeks until we get ours (at least that is what I read over at REX forum)!!!

Some piccies...... 1st three over Puget Sound heading south to SeaTac @ 18:35 Zulu. 4th pic... Eds Field, Arizona at sunset with Mt. Newman and Picacho Peak below @ 19:13 Zulu.

Great performance... negligible fps hit and mighty fine details... the cloud bottoms are darker.

Edit:Last pic.... Yep typical Oahu... 17:35 Zulu... and clouds over the Koolau's (Windward Side of the Island)

Do you notice a stutter or hang when the weather updates? How about overcast? Is it more accurate?

crashaz
May 27th, 2012, 20:01
No hang... stutter much less than what I saw with REX updates. Took some more pics ...Big Island..

So should one uninstall REX2 Overdrive and install REX Essentials instead? Can not make up my mind about it...

Okay, I give up....

I can't find it on the REX Forum, but as a verified REX 2 user, I know I can get the upgrade gratis.....I just can't figure out how to do it.

I bought mine at the Flightsim store, and I could just log into my account and download the Essentials pack under my Rex 2.0 order.

Seems you have to be a verified purchaser and add your product number to a thread on their forums.

TeaSea
May 28th, 2012, 06:17
Yep, soon as I posted I went to my account, and sure enough, the REX 2.0 had already been replaced with REX Essentials...."doh"......

So what you guys think so far?

TeaSea
May 28th, 2012, 06:25
At this point, I think it takes a while to download, even with IDM.... :)

Did you uninstall REX 2, or was yours a completely new install?

crashaz
May 28th, 2012, 07:28
I did a completely new install.

So far I really like what I see!

I am using the default FsX real weather engine though, as loading weather through the REX interface takes way too long for my taste.

Yep, did a complete new install as well.

My first impression is:

1) Far smoother load than the previous effort.

2) The less dramatic effects, such as haze, are wonderful. Goodness, over the ocean making the ILS 11 into Yakutat Alaska I could hardly make out where the sky ended and the water began.

I must say that made me laugh. Sure the REX textures are still great when you do it like that, but saying you use the default weather engine instead of REX is like saying: "I'm using a bicycle to drive everwhere, as starting the car takes way too long for my taste". ;)

Naki

I don't see how you can use that analogy....I simply don't have the time to wait, apart from the rare occasion when the house is emptied of kids and wife. By the time the textures load my already short flight would barely be a hop. In any case I'm looking at what Essential does...when I find the time to load it :icon_lol:...

Well, the analogy is supposed to make clear that the REX weather engine is infinitely more capable and powerful then the default weather engine and that it barely takes anymore time to get it ready (a car is started pretty quickly). I really don't see how one can't have the minute (or less) that it takes to inject the weather into the sim. You don't have to change the REX textures every time you use it, you know? ;)

Just go the REX folder, double-click on the "rexwxengine2.exe" and then click on the Load Wx button. Minimize it, wait one minute while you prepare the aircraft and you are done. I think you can even do it while loading a flight, so the weather is already there and ready once the flight is loaded = no waiting time whatsoever. Ferry really shouldn't deny himself that weather engine, even without the Essential improvements.

TeiscoDelRay

The weather injection takes a long time for me also, maybe a couple minutes but that seems like forever sometimes while watching a line move. Also if I hit the fly now button it wants to load all the textures in my theme all over again that are already loaded and saved.

It is great fun now to chase thunderstorms. I go to national radar and find some good ones and then position myself close by.

I wish it would take less than a minute, but it will take several! I can even select and load an entire set of new textures into FsX before the weather is finished downloading! Combined with a long start-up time for FsX and a bit extra to select an aircraft and I've spend over ten minutes waiting. Don't know, maybe it's a temporary thing, but for a quick hop it takes too long for my taste.

bushpilot
May 29th, 2012, 07:49
It does take surprisingly long, so when ever I only have time for short flights, I won't bother using it. But when you do have the extra time for Essentials weather, it's worth it:jump:

Dain Arns
May 29th, 2012, 10:16
That is odd. :kilroy:

Without choosing new textures, REX weather data is often installed before FSX finishes loading up for me.
Only things I could think of is it must be set for a very, very, very wide area of data collection?
Or a bad connection to the REX server? Maybe using an alternate like the VATSIM server?

pilottj
May 29th, 2012, 12:26
Councur with Dain Arns. Weather only takes a few mins to load. I have coverage area set to Medium. The only thing I have noticed so far is that even tho I have it checked to automatically start when FS starts, I have to manually start it.

I have to admit, my initial thoughts about REX E was "so what". Screen shots were not that convincing. But since it was a free download on top of my current version of REX, I gave it a spin.

I must say that the cloud textures seem more realistic, softer in texure, and some of the early morning lighting, haze effects are quite beautiful when you run the weather engine. They turned the volume up on the thunder which is unfortunate because the original thunder sounds seemed more realistic, distant - to me ast least. No FPS hits that I can tell in early flights. Add Shade, and the expereince is quite lovely.
