View Full Version : AI Naval Ship - boats & traffic?

Hello,

Wondering if anyone knows if there are some good naval vessels and tracks? Of course, I'm well aware of the carrier-related packages and tracks - but wondering about some boats like submarines, etc? Preferrably Cold War era? I'm picturing a squadron of naval vessels sailing from say, Portsmouth England, to Norfolk, US. Or perhaps some Soviet traffic, tootling around the Barents?

With more Cold War aircraft slowly coming (Tracker, etc), it would be cool to to add some naval traffic for ASW spotting, etc. Have checked at FSShipyards, and didn't see too much FSX-specific AI - but since it's a niche interest, maybe someone knows.

thanks,

I found some good Soviet Ships, like Akula submarine, Moskow & Leningrad and other minor battleships in avsim russian edition (Project_1123, Project_1134B, Project_1232_2, Project-971). Hoping this could help you.:wavey:

Hello Roberto,

Thanks for the reply - seems like what I'm after. I couldn't find the files under those names - used the "project_xyz" names you indicated, searched "akula" ... any help you could help would be appreciated.

I guess the next step is creating AI tracks/traffic - what's the trick to making an "airport" for a ship to "land" at, assuming AI ship traffic is the same as AI traffic works? I've not yet done anything with AI in FSX, but am assuming it's like in FS9, so there must be an invisible airport/AFCAD of sorts for ships?

Thanks,

DL

You'll want to use AI Boat Traffic Compiler, by Lamont Clark (lc0277). AIBTC will allow you to create true AI boat traffic for FSX. Read more here: http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/boat/.

Thanks Bruce - you're a prince!

I haven't had a chance to install these all - but I think it's EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Here I thought I was after something arcane and unlikely ... there truly is nothing new under the sun!

Cheers,

DL

Hello Bruce,

Did you install these? I have been trolling Severomork, Vladivostok, and Havana ... am not seeing any traffic. All boats in boats, all traffic bgls in scenery/world/scenery .... any ideas?

thanks. The screens look awesome - would love to see these "in action." :)

Do you have any FS9 AI flightplans? Having any will prevent FSX native AI from working properly, which is what I assume the quoted links are.

No FS9 AI installed. Have checked and have other FSX AI working fine.

Check and see if your boat traffic is turned up high enough in your AI settings menu.

Not in a long time, I use them with AI Carriers generally.

Thanks Grady!

The readme's (in Cyrillic) didn't seem to indicate what the traffic % threshold needed to be (to keep fps up I had pegged all boats to 10%). So I've maxed all boats to 100% - they're there now! And in fact, when you click on the dev (dmi_shef) to bring up all he's done, there are additional traffic, terrain, and other soviet stuff .... (dev screens, not mine)

Obligatory An-2 ... this is for the hipster crowd, who thinks that owning a USB turntable instantly makes for real "indie" ... hooey ... regular biplane service in the the jet era, baby ... that's retro ...

C'mon, you just know you HAVE to have a 60's LAZ-695 trundling out the collective farms .... shhh ...

http://www.avsimrus.com/file_images/87/img32815_1.jpg

and of course, back on topic, the boats themselves ... which I have to say - save for the Royale French Navy and Flying Station carriers, are HANDS DOWN the nicest looking AI boats I've ever seen ...

Finally, in case the Greenpeace crowd feels a bit left out, you can go whalewatching in the Kolky Gulf. Mind you, there's no better way to do this than in a KA-27, so with all that noise and rotor downwash, no guarantees PETA won't be on your case ...

All joking aside, thanks Robert and Bruce for putting me on to these files - it was everying I was after - multiplied ten fold.

Большое спасибо!
