A very cool colored film. Straffing and bombing, good stuff.

Academy Award-nominated documentary, which shows the 21st Bombing Command and its role in the B-29 bombing of Japan and the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO).

I Loved it! Thanks Tony2. I, like most of us, am a p-51 lover and those fighting and strafing scenes are great.

If you guys don't normally take the time to view the movies recommended by our minions you should take the time to see this. At least the last 2/3rds where the fighters begin fighting and the bombs begin dropping. Great stuff! The end, unfortunately shows how a few B-29s did not quite make a successful landing. But even this is worth viewing so that the reality of war can be properly comprehended.

One of the best Color documentaries I've seen. I never did understand how the P-51 boys could navigate over water for such long missions. This clears it up. Great stuff.

I agree its one of the best. Enlightening in so many ways, including the escort rendezvous and action. I'll now have to plug in a wayfinding B-29 for my escort missions. I wonder what the Navy used for this purpose when their fighters were tasked to escort B-29's? I'm assuming that there must have been some need for Navy escorts before Saipan, Tinian, Iwo and Okinawa were taken to allow for P-47's and P-51's in this role.

Nice movie and nice site.

Needs a bit more search in the move list:

You'll find a super movie about P-47's in Italy, and a nice one about flying tigers and the 14th. AF in China.

Have a good time
