excellent, what a classic bird, always enjoy seeing a real one in the Poirot movie "Peril at End House" what a paint. The older version had that paint and correct ID so I hope version 4 has it. Downloading now.

And another movie "A town like Alice", ummm, hmmmm, must dig'em out again.

Interesting news. I've been flying the original FSX model since September 2008, just luv it. So I'll certainly be getting the new update version.

Curious as to what may have been changed/improved.

DaveWG
May 3rd, 2012, 10:38
Pretty much everything has been remade, reworked, or in some way improved, with lots of added details.
Unfortunately, old repaints will not work, but I'll be releaseing a new paint kit in the coming few days.

Check Harris Scarfe Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?harris-scarfe/) and Myer Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?myer/).

Hi Dave,

I look forward to this update. I've enjoyed your previous models and never tire of watching that graceful bird slowly descend on the wind. Those wings are so elegant and of course the fuselage and wheels are beautiful as well. Thank you for keeping this special plane around.

good flights, Cal

Excellent, Dave!

I've always loved your work you put into the Rapide. It was already a keeper before. It's great to hear that you've spruced her up.
Can't wait to test. :salute: :medals:

I just loaded her up to go for a quick spin, Dave.

I'm not meaning to pick at your work. More of thinking out loud.
By chance, are you planning to do anything in the cockpit for high resolution textures? I'm just wondering. I know it's freeware.
I just think it would really add a lot too, what's already really nice.

It is FSX, and the scenery is Scilly Islands by Earth Simulations. It definitely gets performance heavy with autogen turned up. I'm personally a big fan of Earth Simulation's work.

Dave, great model! Does this bug you spotted by chance have anything to do with the model tipping nose over as the aircraft loads up? This happens each time I load the aircraft(on runway or parking spot).

Excellent shots, Tim!!

(Regarding Earth Simulations - yes, I've got all of their stuff, lol. ; ) )

I'd love to see a repaint of Jerry Yagen's Rapide (the only one flying in the U.S.), but man, I love the amount and selection of paint schemes already included! I think G-AIYR might be my favorite - I just love the simiplicity of the green & cream two-tone scheme. You'll probably hear me say it several times more, but thank you very much, again, Dave!

Yes, exactly. I remember that one so I did a wiki on it. It was in Season One and titled Out of Time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_Time_(Torchwood)). The pilot had named her Dragon Rapide "Sky Gypsy". Might be a nice repaint subject but need an attractive brunette in the pilot's seat.

Just looking here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Dragon_Rapide), there was an amazing list of civilian and military operators over the years.

DaveWG
May 4th, 2012, 08:52
The Rapide used in the Torchwood episode was G-AIDL, which is one of the schemes included, but I think it had the Osprey removed from the tail if I remember correctly.

DaveWG
May 4th, 2012, 09:13
I've uploaded a small patch, to fix something that wasn't working properly.

Unzip & drop the 2 panel folders into the main Rapide folder, overwriting when asked.

Thank you, it was great surprise to see updated version after so many years! I'd like to ask about ADF - in aircraft.cfg there are two options for ADF antennas, enclosed and open loop that can be added to external model. Is that purely visual aspect, or it also adds ADF indicator and radio to the cockpit?

DaveWG
May 6th, 2012, 06:10
The ADF loop antennas are visual only, to allow for more accurate Dominie type repaints.

A "proper" Dominie model is planned, but no ETA as yet.

Ian: weren't they the first to land in Milford Sound?

They were the first airliners that landed at Milford in the mid 1950s , but to my knowledge was a couple pioneering flights pre WWII using Tiger Moths or similar type but the Rapide opened up the region , many aircraft have been lost notably a DH Dragonfly that was lost without a trace in 1962 and search gos on today , the area has got to be known as New Zealand's 'Bermuda Triangle' .

Not quite my kind of airplane, I'd rather have a Dove or Heron. ;) But a salute for a great piece of work with this modell. It looks great. :)

How did you get Milford Sound to look like this? When I go there, the airport is on top of some really freaky looking mountains. And it's native, no addon scenery for this area in my setup.
