Well... I've now had 4 WD failures in less'n a year.
Two 80GB SE's and now my 2nd 250GB.
I 'spect I'll order a Seagate 160...
I got two of them, I've hammered the bejeepers outa', and still rockin' strong. :)

funny you would say that, remember the computer in Jan we built for gramps, lol, and the HD you supplied, well it went out too, another WD. I gave up on them 2 years ago and went to maxtor series 10.

I've had no trouble with Seagates so far.
FUnny how people now adays say their WD failed. I had a 7.5 gig WD in my old system and it was still running fine the last day I used the old computer. And it was running strong for 5 years.

Seems to go in spurts...
I saw a rash of WD failures, about 7-8 yrs. ago...
Seagate had trouble with a series, some time back & their share fell sharply.
Maxtor had a bout with the D-Max series back awhile.
IBM turned out a massive batch of defective Dekstars... then sold it out to Fujitsu.
It's got as competitive as Vid Cards, and they all push the envelope a bit too hard, I reckon.
Personally.. I'd rather have reliability & older style bullet-proof drives than a couple miliseconds faster seek time & warehouse size storage.
I don't mind payin' a couple extra bucks for that level of reliability, either. :D
