Just wondering are there any/many videographers perusing these boards? I'm considering taking some tentative steps into a this in a commercial venture...but would like some advice from "those in the know":). I've got a few camcorders..mini DV and a HD camcorder with inbuilt HDD...but all of these are consumer items rather than prosumer.

I'm keen on home video...do quite a bit of it for personal interest, but I have no professional training.

I've been tinkering with home video production for about 10 years now. I'm very interested in Photography too, but thought that there may be more commercial opportunities in video production eg Wedding's,Christenings, etc.

One thing that is oh so obvious to me after making quite a few home production DVD's is you have to have the sound just right or it just won't work. Whether it is added in sound or the original sound track, it's just has to be coordinated right.

Yep ...plan is to use wireless microphones, or to tap into any available sound system directly, then dub the audio afterwards. Using a clapper board should help with the timing.:)

I'd been looking at that, P. Not sure if it'd be ideal as a main cam, but could be used to supplement the others. I'm also thinking of getting a GoPro HD for in car shot's etc.

Working on a business plan at the moment and between camera gear, audio, computers, monitors and backup it's going to get expensive.:icon_eek:

I notice quite a lot of funeral houses are using hastily made up still shot slide shows with a bit of background music on DVD these days of family members and such. Play them during the funeral service, seems to be a good size market there to...don't think they need to be great quality.

Funny you should mention that. I've heard of a huge upsurge in interest in people having funerals recorded too. Not the line of work that I'd be actively seeking out, but if it pay's the bills..... I'd like to think that I could offer a more polished DVD than what was described, however :icon_lol:.
