*Changed owners last August, and now re-finished in a new scheme, and named "Miss Kandy". I really liked the "Dixie Boy" markings!

I think I have the correct font for Dixie Boy and I already have the 47th patch. I should have something to preview later today.

Zsolt, working on it now. Working on the wings and tail today. The wheel covers are also special so I will try to find good images for those.

the wheel covers wouldn't have been that way on a wartime bird would thy? Also......hopefully these markings would be put on the mirror finish skin that John is making. I love the idea though!

She is coming along. For sure the wheel cover markings would not be present during wartime. Probably just the number 151. Here is what I have up to now.

That's really shaping up very nicely, Tom!

Regarding these markings that the restored aircraft was painted in, I'm about 99% certain that they were fictional, but of course very nicely based on 47th FS markings. The tail number is actually the real serial number of the restored airframe. I still have yet to find any photos posted of the aircraft in its new paint scheme, as "Miss Kandy" - though it might debut at Sun N Fun next week (details about the specific markings it now carries seems to be quite secret).

Edit: If anyone wants to see what the interior on this restored Mustang looks like, here are a few quick peaks (not very stock, but very well presented!):

John, your sources of information and photo absolutely amazes me. You are a wealth of knowledge. I have a bunch of stuff going on today. Mark and I are working on ChiChi Jima's photo-airfield scenery. Boy is there a bunch of stuff to learn concerning Marks new software and SBuilderX.

When resting from scenery production, I have been painting Dixie Boy. It is raining like crazy outside so a great day to say inside and make scenery and paint aircraft. I much prefer the WWII type paint but if I can get the shiny metal paint kit from John, I will try to make the modern day restored model as well.

Someone who I thought should be mentioned in this thread, is Selby Burch. He is the person responsible for getting 44-73751 restored, and he is one of only a few Mustang owners over the years that have seemed to ever have an interest in putting their Mustangs in Pacific/CBI-Theatre markings.

Selby Burch had 44-72438 restored in the mid-90's, and finished in 118th TRS markings, but unfortunately, just like with the recent sale of "Dixie Boy", this aircraft wasn't owned by Selby Burch for long and almost immediately changed markings as soon as it was sold (and now it is painted as "Hell-er Bust" - still a very attractive Mustang, and a very stock/complete restoration, that has been often over-looked).

This is what 44-73751 looked like shortly before Selby Burch rescued it in 2001/2002 and had it restored by American Aero Services as "Dixie Boy". Almost hard to believe that the aircraft in the following two photos are one in the same (though it was taken completely apart down to the last piece and built back up again, with new longerons and all new skins).

And...
If you have "Little Friends II", you can have this depiction of 44-11280, the inspiration for Burch, with the restoration of 44-72438
