any chance of seeing the dirty prop spinner on the white zero being washed off? makes the rest of it look ugly :engel016:

Fantastic !
It will be from "Just Flight", right ? (sorry for this question, I'm still unable to remember who works for which company here...)
Who "realistic" do you plan to make this aircraft ?

Yes this is a Just Flight product. We will be releasing more details about the aircraft shortly.

It seems like the perfect opportunity to finally duplicate the "oil canning" effect, well, with a Zero built for FSX and the vast material options available.

Martyn,
The Zero has been long-overdue in FSX. This is great news! It's looking purdy..

That skin effect is VERY hard to duplicate in normal maps. Thats why it hasent really been done yet.

What I meant, is that with every past Zero built for any other flight sim, you would have to actually texture the aircraft to look like that, with all of the shadows and highlighting in the base textures themselves, in order to get close to the effect. With this being the first Zero that can support normal maps/bump maps (whatever you want to call them), I'm just saying it is the first opporunity that someone could have to reproduce this effect using the more advanced materials available in FSX (it does also require a good amount of specular (which would be accurate anyway) to show off such detail in the normal/bump maps). I'm not, in the least, saying that it hasn't been done well on other productions, and I know too exactly what goes into trying to duplicate such an effect.

I think the OZX HD Redux version of the Grumman Goose is a good example for that. Must have been a tough job.

Thats a way of faking it, putting a random noise into the skin.

Dang it Roger, this is all your fault! This is a fine addition to my IJN Air Fleet. This is such an interesting plane. A perfect example of “the right tool, at the right time, for the job.” The Me-109, for all its technological sophistication, would have been worth it's weight in cement blocks to the Japanese, who, in 1941, needed a long range fighter... Good stuff!

Rrg on Hiryu. It's part of the Yanco package of Midway ships. Very nice too. I just noticed he's made the Coral Sea collection too, downloading that one now...

Yet, my '38-'42 hangar is still short of Val, Kate and Betty (and Devastator and Buffalo). ;)

Here is mine. It places the IJN ships approximately in the correct locations, relative to each other, just before the fatal dive bomber attacks. Don't forget to rename the SIM.cfg files from "asSIM.cfg" to "SIM.cfg". Not sure why some of them are named this way, but they won't move if you don't rename them.

If somebody can confirm that the weird "dirty prop spinner" thing can be or has been corrected, I may grab this plane to run the decks on Yanco's IJN carriers. :)

Roger
April 24th, 2012, 12:57
The prop spinner has it's own texture sheet so I guess it would be fairly easy to make it just white.

I downloaded the carrier packages and the Zero but AICarriers does not seem to work with a Java version higher than 6.17. I am reluctant to install an older Java version. Does anybody know whether there a solution for that? Or are there scheduled routes for these carriers? I could not find documentation about that in the carrier package.

There was an issue with Java that you may want to examine. This was from Avsim a few years ago:

"A windows system file (mysteriously modified, maybe by a windows auto-update) that can be found under C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. it's the hosts file.
Open it with notepad and add the following line if not there:
127.0.0.1 localhost
after the following line.
:: 1 localhost
Save it to your desktop ( window won't allow you too save back in it original place. Then navigate back to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and override the existing file with the modified one from your desktop.
That's it fire up FSX and enjoy AICarriers2r2.
It solved my problem but some others may have another problem. Please note that AICarriers can't be fired up independantly from FSX. Its need to be fired up via the exe.xml file.
The root cause is that IPv6 is incompatible with AICarriers and it need the IPv4 loopback address.
Why is the hosts file modified? I don't know."
