I was eating supper while watching that and I swear I almost lost it a couple of times!

:jawdrop:

Makes me glad I've never been on anything bigger than the local lake ferry (and I once got queasy on that!)

I had a trip to Norway when I was eighteen, Newcastle to Bergen 28 hours on the north sea in a storm, not as bad as that Southern Ocean in the video though,

but I was ill for the next three days, hated ships ever since then.

I do not think anyone was eating with a fork or playing chess that day.

I never got sick on sea or in the air this far, but if had had been on these ships I propably would have fed the fish. Or worse.

Cheers,
Mark

This is why I have so much respect for my late father or any Tincan Sailor. Seeing that DD disappear into that trough was scary, it's also why I made sure I was in NAVAIR and rode carriers.

Amen to that strikehawk! Sometime even the big CVs get nailed though... :)

Love big wave videos!

Oh, yes! Three quick steps up the ladder, spread your feet and brace as you rise past vertical, on the fall into the trough three more quick steps up the ladder....

I once remember watching a jaw of mayo tip over on the non-skid on the mess table, roll down to the bulkhead, roll up the bulkhead to the overhead then arch out across the space where a mess cook caught it. Some days it was too rough to make even a proper cold sandwich.

when i see these videos i cant but think of what it must have been like 200ish years ago in the 'man of war' where men would have to go up into the rigging and play with sales if they hadnt taken them all in :isadizzy:

Been there, done that, Happened on all three carriers I served on....I was perched on PriFly catwalk when a huge wave came over Saratoga's bow....couldn't believe it. My berth was way up near the Forcastle on the America, remember floating up out of the bunk then slamming back down every time the ship slid down the backside of a large wave..A buddy and I decided to climb as high on the island as we could to view a large storm when we were aboard the Forrestal, that was very exciting...I was in awe of the DDs that escorted the carriers, they would literally go out of sight then pop back up...I don't recall the ocean being quite that angry though...so WOW!!! cool video. We need an "UPCHUCK" smiley to choose from
