Well, the x-48s will be delayed until late March because the mfgs fear they will have too many X-38s laying around and will have to cut their prices and lose money...but our tests at TechCor show that these two boards are equal to the best X-48 chipset in-test motherboards out there. Why use expensive x-38 over P-35 for our Penryn pleasure...simple, the PCI-E 2.0 video cards are hot, hot, hot and getting better with each new driver. So if you have visions of getting into the Q9650 (or delayed Q9770) or the E8500 Penryn series processors these are the boards that make them sing!
Shouldn't I wait for the X-48s? If you are patient you will gain about 7 to 10 percent advantage over these two motherboards. If you have the money now and just can't wait, these two will be worth your time and trouble. One thing you should note: Carefully check the dimensions of the video card you are buying to make sure you can get to your SATA ports on your motherboards. Big cases are a very good idea and will help you cool down your monster-in-a-box.
Here are the two tested hotties that X-48 will not put to shame:
The Asus Maximus Extreme (yes it is still faster than ASUS Blitz and Striker II)

Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 (Intel X38 Express)

Be prepared to shell out some real Dough RE ME, but it will be worth the price of admission to a really nice setup.
