Hello, could anyone recommend a RAR file opener that won't effect all my other files unopened files? Thanks if you can help.

Check out 7zip.
http://7-zip.org/

It's open-source and will handle all of the common archive formats.
When you install it, you can choose which archive formats you want to associate with it. any that you don't check to link 7zip to will remain associated with whatever archive program you're using now.
If all you want it for is to open RAR archives, only check the box for that particular file format.
Attached is a screenshot of the options tab that shows what it all supports. Note, I have nothing associated with 7zip...I use the right-click context menu instead to "open file with 7zip" option instead.
And if you find that you like how it operates, you can select more or all the archive types to be handles by 7zip too. It's a very well put together program.

I have 7zip(open-source freeware) and WinRAR(payware) running alongside each other with no problems.

I also moved this down to the software support forum so others can benefit from the thread too.
