Oh good. I wanted to input my thoughts on the plane but not on the last post.
I really enjoy flying this plane. It really feels heavy, as it should. I've added the nice 2d panel from Cal Classics....a few of us still use them. I do like the VC and use it too. The paints that came with it are very good although military paints are missing. And an Air Force One is needed. I know an addon group of paints are in the works, but could someone sneak in a Navy C-118 repaint sooner?
All things considered, well worth the price.

I have many of the products that have come from Baz's team..So with complete faith in their products I don't see any reason from what I've read and the screenshots I've seen not to add this to my list of happy purchases, so on that note I am now awaiting the boxed version.....being an "Ol' Fart" my waiting gene is really tiny and I'm not good an a "patient" level as well...So this is going to really test me until the boxed version is happily being downloaded to my computer....My wife says it is good training for me to have to "Wait" for a new toy. It will make it that much more of a pleasure when it arrives...."Harump" what do wives know???

I read the first thread !!
I read Bazzar's retirement based on Thread 1
I read here

Usually I am not that much in DC-6 (I am fine with the CalClassic, and the JBK) more in all Connies, but as a kind of statement I will buy now !!

If it half es good as Bazzar's Connie, and I know Connie's in and out believe me,must be stunning

For you guys who can't find how to make the stairs appear, on the main panel just above the artificial horizon is a red lever labeled "Air On Emergency Power." Click on it and it will toggle the stairs and the hippie wagon.

I was moved to buy this aircraft both on its own merit and as a way of supporting the developers.

I am going to be making her my ride of choice for a good while to come.

From negatives have come positives. It is good when it works out that way.

Just recieved the boxed version last night...way ahead of anticipated arrival by the way....put it on my computer, added the service pack....and loaded up FSX....my first impressions are "WOW"
excellent, outstanding,Groovy(if you're old enough to recall groovy). Need to adjust cfg. for pilot position I like to see more instrument panel than the default...did a quick series of "A" keystrokes to see additional views and I really like the hot babe flight attentdant...the detail is very good (not the flight attendant, the aircraft). engine views wing views underside etc. all very neat. Took off for a quick familiarization flight, aircraft gives the feel of a heavy four engine aircraft, a little slow to climb, a little slow for rudder response, feels on the edge of stall till airspeed builds, just what I would expect... level off, set trim, pick an auto pilot setting and lock on....then about a thousand view strokes to see all of it....I'm very pleased. I also have the Professional Connie pack (which I fly most often) This (the DC6B) is equivalent to that package and a blast to play with. WAY TO GO Baz and company. So enough of this I'm off for a morning flight. I don't know if other developers are working on the Douglas heavies, but this one is a very good rendition...with the FSX enhancement from A2A enabled it is pretty darn cool. Oh btw the boxed version comes with a Manual....yes, you read correctly a manual, a small book that is an excellent reference for this product...

Just got this thanks to Just Flight's two-for-one airliner sale. (Picked up the Comet too, since I've had the Connie for a while now.)

REALLY nice. Bizarre to read the original thread, after comparing the model to actual photos. It's a beauty, and looks as much like a DC-6 as it can considering I'm viewing it on a 27" monitor!

Quick question: I know there's a paintkit. Is there a repository of repaints anywhere? Looking for some military paints to complement the civilian liveries.

Too bad it is FSX only - this is one of the planes that makes me toy with the idea of getting FSX. But my system is to old, running FS9 just comfortably at 25 fps, no way it could manage FSX.

If you want to add a brake squeal effect to any or all of the JustFlight DC-6 liveries I've attached a link to a file that will provide the effect:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/6r6eun2etd3zrzs/FSXSqueaking_brakes.zip
(read the installation readme carefully)

Also, I have been trying a lot of different R2800 sounds for this aircraft and IMHO this one is the best yet:

http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=29931768&page=3

I find that all the liveries contain their own sounds (a waste of space if you ask me) so if you just alias all the sound.cfg's to just the one sound livery where you have this main sound installed
(for me it was the Military section) that would shed some space. :engel016:

Thanks, Ted. I tried a few from flightsim and avsim and this one also. Certainly not bad but not as good as the one i used to have for DC-6 last year. That's the problem, i can't find it anymore. Can't remember the dev name but it wasn't Des Braban. Wasn't specifically for the DC-6, just a generic 4 engine prop sound but it was very good. Hey Jan does Skysong use sound cones? With sound cones you create some really discrete sound angles like the loud prop buzz as it passes by.

Apparently my post above ^ the Version 2 is the latest and greatest

here is excerpt from his readme

VERSION 2 CHANGES

1. Improved startup sounds. Many files renamed so they all use the same naming format.

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED VERSION 1 PLEASE DELETE THE FS/Aircraft/PropSound DC-6 R-2800 FOLDER BEFORE INSTALLING THIS VERSION. You will waste a lot of hard disk space if you don't.

Again the link

I see request for a DC6 R-2800's and Skyraider R-3350 on Adam Murhpy's web site. He's the guy who can do some awesome soundsets.

Checking out his file structure, he uses the prop call on almost all sounds. I don't use prop calls at all. Will have to explore that sometime.

I checked out his offerings for the R-2800 and what he has sounds better suited for the convairs.

I tried Adam's R-2800 soundset and it does have one thing going for it. The cone effect.
The actual sounds on a ground run up are not as spectacular as Jon Jeffrey's IMHO.

http://calclassic.proboards.com/thread/6213/dc-2800-sounds-v2-released

And even though a request for a DC-6 sound was made, I get the feeling it was a
Fait accompli when he released his R-2800 sound set suitable for Convairs and DC-6.
So I don't think it gets any better then what he has already put together. If you look at
his sound.cfg number of engines = 2 and change it to 4 it doesn't seem to make it any better.

It is a good Convair sound and very well suited for it.

Hey Jan does Skysong use sound cones? With sound cones you create some really discrete sound angles like the loud prop buzz as it passes by.

Nope, no sound cones in the Skysong DC-6 soundset, Ted. Atleast not that i can hear... In my ears it still is the best set for a DC-6 but certainly not perfect. ( that means not anything like your magnificent set for the DC-3.... :encouragement: ) It's mainly the volume at the transition from start-up to idle and from idle to more rpm. The start-up wav itself is great.

@ Grey Eagle: yes i tried the v2 version too but v1 didn't produce what i am looking for in the first place. Internal there's no 'body' when you wall the throttles, sounds a bit like a squadron of prop fighters up in the air rather than sitting in between 4 P&W's. I do have my sub woofer turned up pretty much. My thee cup is suppose to start trembling on its saucer when i open up the throttles, that's what happens with the Skysong soundset. :teapot:

Nice external sound for the Convair, pity there's no good native FSX model for it. Certainly waiting for a dev to oblige. Sorely missing in FSX. Atleast we have a fairly good DC-6 now ( it's the best of the JF propliners if you ask me) but i can't wait for PMDG to finally get take-off clearance for their rendition.

Adam does offer a Native (FSX) soundset; here is the header for it:
//Pratt & Whitney R2800 18-cylinder air-cooled radial engine with 3 bladed propeller (for Canadiar CL-215, Douglas DC-6, Convair CV-240/340/440, Curtiss C-46). FSX version with 3D sound cones.

A four blade version is WIP.

This can be like Goldilocks with the porridge too hot or too cold; some one will make/find one that is just right.
