Catching up on movies.

Part of my semi-retirement from FSX dev is to catch up on a bunch of movies I have been meaning to watch. Some I'm sure you have seen....
Amazing stuff when one goes outside of the usual Hollywood poop.

Girl with Dragon Tattoo (origional Swedish trilogy)
Allison and Lillia (aircraft based anime, with blonde girlie flying FW-190!)
Sucker Punch
Boondock Saints.
1911 (Jackie Chan can act!)

I usually root around on Hulu and Crackle (the free side of things...haven't subscribed to either Hulu or Netflix yet).

That where I stumbled across 9th Company. I agree, it's definitely a good movie...not the usual Hollywood overglamourization. Seemed to me like the Russian version of "We were soldiers" but I won't throw out any spoilers.
There have been a few other decent Dolph Lundgren movies online too. Another one that I like is The Russian Specialist. Pretty good action flick.

Other stuff I've watched on Hulu or Crackle the past few months:
The Legend of Pancho Barnes - actually just a 1hr documentary but a good aviation related show.
The Shadow Strikes - I'm a big OTR fan. The Shadow is one of my favorite radio shows so I dig the movies too.
In the Electric Mist - Not one of Tommy Lee Jones better movies, but I think he plays the character very well.
Safari 3000 - David Carradine and Christopher Lee. A cheezy rip on Deathrace 2000...but it's still funny.
1941 - Aww cmon, ya just gotta love Belushi's Wild Bill Kelso!
The Myth - More Jackie Chan


A couple I've stumbled across in the DVD bargain bins at Walmart:
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - Tommy Lee Jones actor and director. An interesting character study. Like In the Electric Mist, I just plain like this newer TLJ stuff that isn't mainstream and the critics aren't raving about.
You Know My Name - A story about Bill Tilghman's final lawman position in Cromwell OK during the 1920s. Sam Elliott did a convincing job playing Tilghman. Yeah, I like westerns...and gangster flicks. This is a cross between both.

"The Boondock Saints" is one of those movies I have to watch every couple months. Love the MacManus brothers and Rocco. :)

Once Upon A Time In The West (1968) - Henry Fonda playing one cold sob killer.

All Quiet On The Western Front (1930) - The new restored version is the best this movie has ever looked and sounded.

The Leopard (1963) - Burt Lancaster plays an aging prince during the time when the middle class in Italy rose up to create a democracy.

Das Boot (1981) Director's Cut - Epic U-Boat story.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008) - War Drama about a German boy who makes friends with a boy in a concentration camp.

"The Straight Story" (1999) starring Richard Farnsworth and Sissy Spacek. Based on a true story, it's a simple but emotional movie. Well worth a view. <label for="rb_iconid_14">http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon14.png</label>

"The Legend of 1900"...Tim Roth as a man who was left on a cruise ship ,well oceanliner,in 1900 and never leaves the ship..great movie..

"11:14" great movie about several peoples lives that all converge at 11;14pm with a single incident....

and if you like to read at all find a copy of "Chickenhawk"..robert Mason, his life story of being in the 1st air cav flying UH1 hueys in Vietnam...great read and well worth it
