Well, I walked away from this scheme a little over a month ago.
Picking away at this one a little more.

This particular scheme, the nose, a real PITA getting things aligned and into proportion.

More work on the engine shroud. Wrapping the peeled effect over the top.

That is absolutely one of the best paints I've seen put on a helo......never cared much for the AS350, but with paints like yours and jeansy, giving me second thoughts.

That is one very good reason to buy the AS350, a fantastic paint job OleBoy:applause::applause::applause:.

Thank you for your hard work.

Bruce.

Thanks my friends. I'll keep plugging away at it. And hopefully finish it. :wavey:

The only thing about this repaint I don't like, is that the paint is physically falling off this bird. Why is it so much work? LOL!

I don't see any zinc primer, maybe that's why the paint is peeling off! :icon_lol:

Thanks Kevin.

I've painted a lot of models for flightsim, although helicopters I always avoided. In most cases, they're mapping nightmares. This particular model represents some great visuals. Especially in DX10.

The bottom of this bird is paint peeled to beat heck.

From my screen shots the repaint looks like it could be done. I still have a lot of work to do (sigh) :)

The right side, bottom just completed.

This helicopter resides in France. http://www.google.com/search?q=Chamonix+Mont-Blanc+H%C3%A9licopt%C3%A8res&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=wAJ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=o2tAT-yqM6qciQLRzLm5AQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CA8Q_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=850

I just painted the rotor blades. I was wanting to edit the blur and add yellow bands. After opening them I'm finding that the rotor blur files are stripe-less. I have a general idea how to create them, but I'm wondering if there's a faster way than trial and error by drawing circles?

Update OK, I attempted the standard-type test of opening the blur files that reside in the default texture folder, and copied the blade into it. Scaled it to 512 and added 3 more blades for a total of four in a "plus". I added radial blur, then saved (in my repaint folder) as BMP. Then imported the alpha.

When I tested to see if it worked, no blur was visible. So at this point testing the Spec will do no good (I think it won't) Can someone tell me what I need to do to get the blur to have the matching stripes?

I finally got to the point I could finish the eagle.

All the layout is in the final stages. The "peel" is finally completed. I'm glad that part is finished.

The next phase will consist of shading, highlights and tonal adjustments to make the peeled look appear to better represent a 3D appearance. Still quite a bit to do yet.

I just finished up doing the 3D enhancements to the peeled paint. When I loaded the helicopter up in FSX, I was :icon_eek: :jawdrop: :applause:. I was amazed by the visual depth difference.

Last things on the list are;

Alpha layers
Spec Layers
Striped rotor blurs ( I'm still stumped on how to go about making these)
And some new duds for the pilot

The repaint is done. I still want to add the striped main, and tail rotor blurs before I release it. Does anyone have the AS350 that's done repaints for it, who has also added in stripes to the blur?

In other words, I'm stumped! Help!! :icon_lol:

Absolutely stunning work. I really don't want this helo, but I want this paint......fantastic work. Sorry, slobbering I know. I am very envious of you and the other painters to produce such fantastic skins. Kudos to you and all painters for enhancing FSX for all.

I've like some feedback on this. I added the soot covered tailboom effect. Question is, use it, or lose it?

I love the irony of asking if a "used" look is appropriate with this particular paint scheme.

I like it both ways but perhaps a version with a little more weathering? :wiggle:

It looks FANTASTIC.

OleBoy
February 23rd, 2012, 10:19
Weathering, dirt, grime, etc, can't be seen in pictures so much. It's there. In the alphas also.

The pilot now has the attire of a French pilot. Not a stereo-typical sports-aholic.

Just a heads up. The textures are 32bit-888. 35mb compressed, 108mb in the raw.

If anyone experiences anomalies with the glass being black or discolored (or just wants a better glass appearance) there is a fix (I hope)

There is a member (Wiege) at hovercontrol.com that has done a nice little tweak for the AS350. More info here. http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=1;t=20962

Wiege has done an update since. Although this is the version I used while painting. http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ifolio/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=FSX_Helicopter_Configs&image=AS350_glass_color_and_mapping_changes_V101.z ip&img=&tt=zip

Whoa! I didn't realize they got that dirty, in that case good sir, your rendition was spot on. Personally, I like it cleaner looking, but seeing the actual bird now shows your great attention to detail and bringing your bird to as real as it gets. Great job.

Matt

PS, noted your released version is cleaned up. Are you going to offer both? After seeing this pic, I think they're both fantastic.

No Sir. That's it. The templates are in the archives for that particular paint.

Now my wife will hit me with the honey-do list :icon_lol:
