3100 years ago, the celtic influence was on a large part of Europe... However it did not happened the same events during the centuries, here and there... But today the celtic tradition is more alive in several regions of UK, and in Brittany... ancient Story... When I was young, at school, a young boy like me had only spanish roots, but... he had Redhead with blue eyes... General De Gaulle, himself, had irish roots in a part of his genealogy...

And now, the fabulous irish side...:applause: ...

Hey All,

Sorry but if you want real Celtic come to North America! :mixedsmi:

We'll start with Leahy - just your typical Canadian family band...

rqg0l43dbv4

This one is another Canadian family band for when we Canadians feel like going around singing in Gaelic! :icon_lol:

I just like this band so much... Three sisters outta Seattle Washington. The Gothard sisters...

Love the F-style mandolin...

This video is special...

Of course there are more but I have to return to Europe for one that you forgot. No instrument ever created on the face of the earth makes music from closer to the heart than the lowly harmonica. This man is one of my alltime favorites - Brendan Power.

Enjoy!

Some good choons on here, thanks to Solobo for starting the ball rolling. Here are a few of my favourites:

One from the BBC's "Highland Sessions" with a line up that can only be described as Celtic royalty (in musical terms)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ojy1W6r8L0

The sublime Karen Matheson, with her band Capercaillie

Iarla Ó Lionáird is also a founder member of the Afro Celt Sound System, which fuses Celtic music with sounds and rhythms from around the world; might not be to everybody's rastes here, sorry. Possibly the best band I have ever seen play live!

And I can't talk about Celtic music from my shores without giving you the Dubliners (with a little added Pogue)

Although a different genre from the prior lovely bits of music, I really like Heather Alexander's March to Cambreadth!

The thumping of the massed bodhrán drums sends shivers down my spine. I can only imagine the terror hearing this coming towards them might arouse in the enemy ranks!

@Solobo, n4gix et al

What I love about this kind of music (and especially the Celtic/traditional/folk music scene over here) is the variety of styles it can encompass, and the adaptability of it. So you can have everything from the gentle traditional ballads like Mo Ghile Mear to the March of Cambreadth. The wealth of talent involved in this, worldwide, is astounding & I love the fact that it is becoming more & more popular (for example, I may not be a fan of Flatley and Riverdance, but it gave people a taste of what they could find); I also love the fact that there is so much crossfeed, that you can have 'fusion' groups like the Afro Celts, or things like the Transatlantic Sessions (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=transatlantic+sessions&oq=transatlantic+sessions&aq=0&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_sm=1&gs_upl=10882l12115l0l14530l5l5l0l0l0l0l69l284l5l5l 0)mixing American traditional musicians with European ones. Long may it continue, we are all richer for it!

Ahh...now that bring's back memories! Back in 1996 I was at a music festival in Cork. I managed to wrangle my way back stage to meet some of the performers. Got somewhat inebriated (naturally:icon_lol:) and got to dance on stage with the ACSS in front of 30k people.:icon_lol:

Btw, you may also enjoy Kila..
