They were good fun and it was interesting flying the Hampden. It was certainly a challenge bombing with out a bombardier position, though I managed to get a waterline hit on the battlecruiser. I realise that it's a beta model, is there any chance the bombardier's post can be fixed. I think this is more important than the gun stations. It was quite odd in away, I felt that there was no other crew and I was flying solo. Good work though on getting this far with it.

Hi Jeff,

The Hampdens do have a bomb aimer position and a VC constructed from the Baltimore II VC (kind permission from Steve to use it)

I think you might have an older build of the planes (Hobbit send him the new ones :) ). I built up the xdp files and fitted out the bombaimer and VC positions but removed the gunners as they are not operating positions. your xdp files should have the following descriptions if you have the latest version of CC and BC planes.

regards Rob.

Handley Page Hampden TB Mk1
=====================================
Unit: 517 Squadron Coastal Command.
Serial: AT-225
Code: E
St Eval airbase,
Cormwall,
England.
August 1943.

A total of 226 Hampdens were in service with ten squadrons by the start of the Second World War, with six of these squadrons forming the operational strength of 5 Group of Bomber Command based in Lincolnshire. Despite its speed and agility, in operational use, the Hampden was no match for Luftwaffe fighters. Consequently, its career as a day bomber was brief, but Hampdens continued to operate at night on bombing raids over Germany, and mine-laying (code-named 'gardening') in the North Sea and the French Atlantic ports.

After being withdrawn from Bomber Command in 1942, it operated with RAF Coastal Command through 1943 as a long range torpedo bomber, (the Hampden TB Mk I with a Mk XII torpedo in an open bomb bay and a single 500 lb bomb under each wing) and as a maritime reconnaissance aircraft. No. 144 Squadron RAF and No. 455 Squadron RAAF were involved in the escort of Arctic Convoy PQ-18 operating from Soviet airbases and left their 23 aircraft in the USSR afterward. These were then used by the 3rd Squadron of the 24 MTAP (Anti shipping Wing) of the Soviet Navy until at least 1943. The Hampden was also used by the RCAF and the RNZAF.

No. 517 Squadron was formed on 11 August 1943 at RAF St Eval, Cornwall when 1404 Meteorological Flight was renumbered. It was equipped with Lockheed Hudsons and Handley Page Hampdens, which it flew daily out into the Atlantic to collect meteorological data. Between September and November 1943 four United States Army Air Forces Flying Fortresses were temporary attached to the squadron, awaiting the arrival of adapted Handley Page Halifaxes. By November 1943 the squadron had reequipped with the Halifax and then moved to RAF St David's in Wales. Two further moves followed, one to RAF Brawdy in February 1944 and then after the war to RAF Chivenor where the squadron was disbanded on 21 June 1946.

A total of 1,430 Hampdens were built: 500 by Handley Page, 770 by English Electric and in Canada by the Canadian Associated Aircraft consortium (although some were retained in Canada, 84 were shipped by sea to the United Kingdom).
Almost half of the Hampdens built, 714, were lost on operations with 1077 crew killed and another 739 missing. German flak is believed to have accounted for 108 aircraft and 214 others were classed as failed to return. Luftwaffe pilots claimed 128 Hampdens, with 92 shot down by night fighters. Finally, 263 Hampdens were written off through a variety of crashes and incidents.

Handley Page Hampden Mk1
=====================================
Unit: 49 Squadron RAF.
Serial: P1333
Code: EA-F
Fiskerton airbase,
England.
August 1940.

No. 49 Squadron received the first Hampdens in September 1938. By the end of 1938 both 49 and 83 Squadron at RAF Scampton had re-equipped.

Flight Lieutenant Rod Learoyd of 49 Squadron was awarded the Victoria Cross for the attack that he led on the Dortmund-Ems aqueduct on 12 August 1940. Sergeant John Hannah was the wireless operator-air gunner of an 83 Squadron Hampden, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on 15 September 1940 when he fought the flames of the burning aircraft, allowing the pilot to return it to base. Guy Gibson spent most of the first two years of his wartime service flying Hampdens, and his book Enemy Coast Ahead gives a strong flavour of the trials and tribulations of taking these aircraft into action.

BEHOLD the RAF Stork in its captured beauty . Due to it being what-if, it has no Identification No, but I've based it on one that was captured so you could say it's close. I did this on-top of my old template, because I no longer had the materials that I used on when I did it. But here she is. The first thing I did revisited.

And just as of now, I regret to inform that my CFS3.exe has begun to be a B**** so this may be the last....

Hi Jellis,

the game saves screenshots to the my document folder inside a folder named after your CFS3 install; or if you are running ETO or MAW etc it will be inside a folder named after those game names.

Sorry about that Master Pops, after going to the Italian wings site, there are many less of these then at one time.
Also missing several CR 42 aircraft once there.

I had this loaded when I did those Italian missions years ago, and decided Not to use it. Because I had to make a standalone or this skin..
Then deleted it later. It was a one of a kind skin once on the Italian wings site.

I may still have this saved to a CD from the past, But to find it would take weeks of looking into MANY hundreds of old CD's I burnt in the past with all of this saved.
I do remember deleting it from my set ups because I needed the room back then on the hard drives.
But I also Know I saved it somewhere on a CD..
Where God only knows right now..

Very sorry about the confusion on this..
With 15 installs of various CFS3 and expansions loaded on my e-machine(old computer) sometimes it is hard to remember what is where, and at one time I did did remove Lots of unused aircraft to save HD space.
Don't have that issue now..
As time goes along I will try to find her again on the CDs for you..
Often look into these, and find forgotten and removed birds that now I can reinstall..

Working on some Missions, this was too cool!!
October 7th 1944 Second Lieutenant Urban Drew was flying with wingman McCandless when he spotted the German airbase at Achmer and went down for a look. Two Schwalbe's were just taking off when Drew dived on them, McCandless keeping right with him. The first Me 262 exploded when hit by the .50s of "Detroit Miss". Drew says he was surprised when the second Me 262 tried to climb away, allowing him to turn inside and shoot away the jet's control surfaces. When Drew returned to base, he found that not only had his wingman failed to return after being hit by flak following Drew's victories, but the gun camera also failed. Only after the war did Drew learn his wingman had survived.
More than 40 years later, an Air Force clerk noticed Drew's claim for two Me-262 victories on the same mission. She contacted a custodian of German war records, who knew former Luftwaffe pilots who might be able to shed light on the claim. Georg-Peter Eder had been set to lead the Me-262s of JG 7 that day, but when his aircraft had problems taking off the two-ill-fated pilots took off to lead JG 7. Eder says he saw a yellow-nosed P-51 dive on the Me 262s and shoot them down. Eder couldn't read "Detroit Miss" on the nose of the Mustang, but his account was sufficient to confirm Drew's two Me-262 victories.

On a campaign mission to nip a German invasion in the bud. Found the convoy 9NM off the coast from Dover. Luckily Pat had put a lot of invasion defenses above the White Cliffs. Good job with the Global Layer.csv, Clive!!

It helped that I had set MissionFriendlyGroundSkill to 100 in the Campaign section of the Uisel.xml. That being said, the coastal artillery fire was the best I've seen - before my wingmen managed to drop their bomb loads, two ships had already been sunk and the mission goals accomplished.

Oh, and making sure the "noise" parameter (which deals with accuracy, not sound) on the large calibre harborguns was set very low in the guns' xdp files must have helped too.....

Unfortunately I strayed in the path of an intercepting flight of 110s so was not in too good a shape to participate although my trusty Hurri got me back to land (screenies from two nearly identical campaign missions).

Thanks Ian,
Been building for ETO Historical missions, yea even sometimes a hobbit has to do Historical..:a1310:

Capt.Don Gentile January 14, 1944 - On a free lance mission to Magny-Soissons, France, the group encountered 15 FW-190s east of the formation, 3,000 feet below. The 336th made the bounce, engaging the enemy from 18,000 feet down to the deck. Don Gentile made a head-on run with two of them. They broke, which allowed Gentile to chase and shoot them both down, making him an ace. With two 190s still on his tail, he heard numerous strikes all over his aircraft. He turned into them and ran out of ammunition. One of the Focke Wulfs stuck right with him, obviously flown by an old pro. Fifty feet over the forest of Compiegne Gentile radioed "Help! Help! I'm being clobbered!" Other 4th pilots radioed back but he was too rattled to answer. All he could do was keep turning into the other aircraft. After 15 minutes of reversing turns and head-on attacks, the German ran out of ammunition and both fighters turned for home. Gentile remembered the encounter as his most critical, since he felt he could honestly beat anyone from that point on, having met and survived the best.

On Nov. 21 1944 Capt.William Whisner led a flight of P-51s on an escort mission to Merseburg, Germany. As the bombers left their target, a large formation of enemy fighters struck. Meyer (now a lieutenant colonel) told Whisner to take a straggler in one of the enemy's three six-ship cover flights. In a linked series of attacks, Whisner shot down four FW-190s in the cover flight and probably got another.
With no more than two Fw190s left in the cover flight he had attacked, Whisner turned his attention to the main enemy formation, exploding a FW190 that had not dropped its belly tank. Evading three FW190s on his tail, he shot down another that was closing on one of his pilots. Then, low on ammunition, he joined up with Meyer and returned to Bodney.

On January 24, 1944, the 20th Fighter Group P-38s flew escort support for an 8th AF assault on Frankfurt. The weather over the target sector was completely overcast, and these bombers were forced to abort once they reached Limburg, some thirty-five miles northwest of the city. The formation separated to confuse the German defenses, and fifteen fighter groups were launched to get all the bombers home. Near Brussels, some fighter groups including the 20th P-38s encountered about sixty Luftwaffe fighters but engaged and scattered them before they could attack the retreating bombers.

Yea getting the real thing..
From Allied and Axis perspectives
Much rejoicing!

Thanks Ian,
Been building for ETO Historical missions, yea even sometimes a hobbit has to do Historical..:a1310:

Wouldn't be much furn turning with no ammo.....what an effort!

Nigel, during a bit of a lull on the shaders front I took some time to look into the French Hawk 75s. I saw reference that the first 100 delivered lacked the two guns in the nose, though I haven't seen any photos of one like this. Do you know if this version was used or perhaps they had their nose guns added later before becoming operational? Just in case, I figured out how to get rid of all trace of the nose guns on this model. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the files.

Yes, many models use the maximum value of FFFFFF, and for Win 7 I have to routinely hex edit these in the m3d file down to 303030. (255, 255, 255 versus 48, 48, 48)

Daniel, that's news to me about the missing nose guns, and none of my sources say anything like it. However, the first batch of 100 to arrive were the A-1 type with cowl guns but only one gun in each wing, as were a further 41 (?), so maybe that's where the idea came from. They were delivered unarmed in any case, although they were fitted with the appropriate brackets, cables, etc. The French fitted 7.5mm FN Brownings in the bays, so largely similar to everydody else's rifle-calibre machine-guns.

The only other thing I can think of is that he's also got the A-4 type muddled in - the A-4, A-6 and others had a Cyclone R-1820-G205A instead of the Twin Wasp of the A-1/2/3 types. It had a different design of cowl, and the guns were no longer in twin fairings above the cowl, but hidden by the cowl, as in the Buffalo.

Jon, if you felt like doing an A-4 version, I can think of a number of uses for it... :adoration:

I did a bit more research and found that the early models (A-1) had the nose guns but only one in each wing. As best as I can tell, removing the outboard gun in each wing would be correct for an early model Hawk 75.

That's right - we do need one for the early French models. So far, I've managed to get round the problem by doing only later batch or upgraded aircraft. Then in order to get a correct RAF/SAAF MkIV, we need the Cyclone-engined version. The Finns also used that one (A-6 mainly) but because of the cooling problems, they converted them back to the earlier standard with Twin Wasp engines.

I don't have the ability to get rid of only one wing gun on each wing, but it sounds like Jon may be interested in doing the early model. In any case Nigel I'm really looking forward to your new skins, early model or no.

Master Middle,
it all was a accident..
Have experimented with the Environment 2.0 files, and Master Ankor's work.. with files from Major Magee
In a Stock ETO 1.40 set up..

Some screenshots are from the North sea, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic each with different clouds..
in the various sets of screenshots..

I have reason to suspect that the clouds used also effect how the water looks..
From Clear to Heavy Low overcast clouds, it changes the way the water reflected the color and shine..

Haven't the time right now to explore this completely, with 13 installs on my XP machine, and 14 on my Win 7 machine.
Takes a bit of time to load and check all of this.
Just loaded into 3 installs on each computer..

On a mission building frenzy right now..
Will return to the water shine issues later..
The screenshots are from the missions in ETO..

@GOSD
it's standard CFS3 with ETO, the only mod i use to create water like in pic is using ENB + Ankor DXD9 Self Shadow and in configoverrides.xml, i use this = <WaterDetailTextureSize val="8"/> and i think you can set it in cfs3config as my cfs3config won't overide my data so i've to do it manually

Three questions:

So many screenshots are appearing with the new reflectivity, has it reached a point where it's easily installable for us lay folk?

The B-17F in the screenshots above, is that CFS3? I've never seen a B-17F for download. Is it Firepower?

And in case I missed it, did the Hampden ever get released?

Target for today: the Hamburg U-boat shelters.

One of the pilots on that raid actually took the surrender of Hamburg a little while later and was shown the devastation inside these shelters by the local military. The defenders were convinced the RAF had used rocket-propelled bombs to destroy the roofs; the pilot kept shtum, knowing the 7-ton (dumb) Tallboy was only dropped from a great height.

ETO Hudson USN anti shipping patrol HH 601

<Overview> You have been transferred to Newfoundland. keep the Atlantic shipping lanes clear of German ships and U-boats. Our merchantmen and the British convoys depend upon clear sailing . 1 March 1942 when U-656, a Type VIIC U-boat, was sunk south of Cape Race by an aircraft flown by Ensign Tepuni. The aircraft had been flying support for convoy ON-72. This was the first German submarine sinking attributed to U.S. forces in World War II.
The Germans have been ranging far in their U-boats patrol off of Cape Race and keep the U-boats under pressure.
On 1 January 1942, VP-82 deployed a detachment of twelve PBO-1s to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland under Patrol Wing Seven to provide convoy coverage, harbor patrol and antisubmarine sweeps. During this period, the aircrews were berthed aboard the Seaplane Tender USS Pocomoke (AV-9) and later the Seaplane Tender, Destroyer George E. Badger (AVD-3) and the Small Seaplane Tender USS Barnegat (AVP-10). By May 1942, the crews were move to barracks on the air station.

I think it is SO cool, that the first official raid by the 8th AF was with A-20 bombers we sent to the Brits (lend/Lease)
And then used them for the US airmen to fly..
ETO 8th AF first Bombing mission HH 603

<Overview> In the summer of 1942 No. 226 Squadron provided the basis for the first operational action by the USAAF in Europe when the personnel of the 15th Bombardment Squadron (Separate) arrived in Britain as the spearhead of the Eighth Air Force. Nine four man USAAF crews arrived at Swanton Morley..July was the first planned raid, on Indeoendence day was throught to have some special importance for the lads.. Six USAAF crews flew borrowed 226 sqn A-20 Bostons to the Netherlands. With 6 RAF crews to hit various targets..

Your target is Dekooy Airfield, appox. 3+ miles South Of De Helder Airbase.. Your two aircraft element will attack Dekooy, and return Home...
**Hit any Aircraft that might be parked at Dekooy airbase**
July 4th Raid...6 of the new USAAF crews in conjunction with 6 of 226 squadrons crews carried out the first official USAAF raid in the ETO. General Ira Eaker thought it fitting to schedule the USA's first official raid on Americian Independence Day, so he borrowed six of the RAF's Douglas A-20 Bostons the Yanks had been training in and, along with the help of six British crews, sent them out to attack Luftwaffe airfields located in Holland.
When they crossed the channel the formation was detected by ships and the defenders were waiting for them. The group of twelve A-20s split up into groups and each attacked a separate target. The worst problems faced the group attacking the airfield at DeKooy. The second plane in this group, the A-20 flown by Capt. Charles C. Kegelman, took a direct hit in its right engine, knocking off its propeller. Momentarily losing control, Kegelman's right wingtip, then his belly hit the ground. Miraculously, he bounced back into the air, regained control and made it back to his base at Swanton Morley with his crew unscathed. This extraordinary mission resulted in the DSC for Kegelman and a DFC for each member of his crew.
Two of the Bostons flown by USAAF crews and one 226 sqn crew Boston were shot down, two Bostons flown by the USAAF crews returned with their bombs because there had been communication problems.

It is interesting the American account of this raid does Not match the British account. Also in one report the A-20's were repainted in US colors?? I guess the fog of War and/or a bit of propaganda ??
I think it wouldn't matter.. The Raid was a brave attempt by Join British and American Crews..

From the Molesworth-based US crews, two crews were assigned to bomb the airfield at De Koog, one crew to Bergen/Alkamaar, one to Haastede, and two to Valkenberg. The flight to hit De Koog was led by an experienced RAF pilot, with CAPT Kegelman flying one wing and 2Lt F.A. Loehrl, the other.
As they neared the target, Lt Loehrl's aircraft was hit by intense enemy anti-aircraft fire and crashed in flames. CAPT Kegelman's aircraft took a direct hit in the right engine, shearing off the propeller and setting the engine on fire. He simultaneously released his bomb load. The lightened Boston surged upward and then down, its right wingtip hitting the ground and ripping off part of the lower fuselage. With full throttle on the left engine, his forward guns silenced a flak tower. Through a combination of skill and luck CAPT Kegelman brought his crew home.
Lt Marshall Draper became the first 8th Air Force POW. Seven other crewmen's lives were lost on 8th Air Force Mission Number 1

<Title>ETO Norwegian Thorsager Bomber intercept HH 607

<Overview>Your Squadron is to occupy the Luftwaffe and prevent them from opposing an invasion by over 5,000 Allied troops, mostly Canadians, who raid Dieppe, France. In the end, some nine Spitfire squadrons were sent into the area to stop the bombers reaching Dieppe.

The North Weald Wing on their second sortie shot down eight of nine unescorted Do 217Es.

Returning over the Channel, a frantic "Look out 190 approaching 3 o'clock!" caused Lt. Kristensen, Yellow One, to whip round and fire a short, effective burst. The 190 burst into flames and dived inverted into the Channel -- it was only then that they realized that it was a Typhoon ... R7815 of 266 Squadron, the pilot being killed. The Norwegian squadrons were up in the air several times a day during the ill-fated Dieppe raid by led by Canadian forces.
Led by Scott-Maldon they got stuck in with the Germans at several occasions.
A German Dornier 217 finds himself surrounded by angry Norwegian Spitfires and only seconds go by before the German plane shivers and black, thick smoke gushes from its engine. One or two parachutes opens ups while the attacking Norwegian Spitfire breaks hard left to avoid hitting bits and pieces from the doomed German machine.

Date 5/10/1942
<Title>ETO Hudson CC Anti shipping HH 608
<Overview>Your squad have been moved to Bircham Newton to patrol Off the coast of Norway. Attack any German surface vessels or U-boats you may encounter.
No. 407 Squadron was formed at Thorney Island in the United Kingdom on 8 May 1941 and was originally equipped with Blenheim Mark lV aircraft but was soon re-equipped with Hudson Mark V aircraft. The role of the squadron during World War II may be described in two phases, the first phase ending in January 1943 during which time 407 was engaged mainly in shipping strikes, it was as a strike squadron that it won its reputation and its nickname 'The Demon Squadron'. And the second phase lasting from January 1943 to disbandment during which time the main function was anti submarine activity. In its four year period of duty in the British Isles the squadron, in addition to Thorney Island, was based at North Coates, Bircham Newton, St. Eval, Docking, Skitten, Chivenor, Limavady, Wick, and Langham. The squadron was disbanded on 2 June 1945 at Chivenor.
Although the squadron was engaged in many different areas, as can be attested to by the varied battle honours won, one particular excerpt from the squadron diary will give some indication of the work done by the squadron:
'During the month of May 1942 the squadron set up an all time record for damage caused to enemy shipping. A minimum of 83,000 tons of enemy shipping was attacked from April 30th to May 31st.

<Title>ETO Dieppe Hodson 401 Sq. HH 613

<Overview>Your Squadron is to occupy the Luftwaffe and prevent them from opposing an invasion by over 5,000 Allied troops, mostly Canadians, who raid Dieppe, France. All four RCAF Spitfire IX squadrons were initially reserved to escort B17 bombers of the USAAF for a raid on the Luftwaffe base at Abbeville.
On the way home from Abbeville Ken Hodsons 401 RCAF squadron approached Dieppe descending to 10,000 feet where a flight of Dornier 217s, escorted by FW190s, was starting a bombing run. 401 Sqdn. quickly broke up this attack damaging several bombers and destroying at least one FW190.
Pilot Officer Dan Morrison closed to 25 yards before firing a two second burst and his own aircraft was damaged by flying debris. He was picked up in the water after bailing out at 250 feet.

<Overview> You are to fly a patrol near the Ardennes, engage Any German aircraft you may encounter..
Edmond la Meslee shot down his first German aircraft on January 11, 1940 in one of the few air combats of the Phony War period.
His best day's fighting was on May 12,1940. His flight of Hawk 75As jumped an unescorted group of Stukas over the Ardennes. He shot down two and shared a third. The French ace Edmond Marin la Meslee collected 20 victories (16 confirmed and 4 probable) in May/June 1940 with a (P-36 Hawk) Curtiss H75A. He was pilot in the GC I/5 which obtained 111 air victories (84 confirmed and 27 probable).
**The German ace Werner Molders had been shot down over France ( H75 Hawk) and made prisoner like 714 other aircraft crew members during the battle (on June 17, France had still about 400-500 German airmen kept prisoner)

Lt.Plubeau Gc II-4 On May 18 1940, between 1500 and 1530 hours, ten French Air Force Curtiss H-75s fighters from the Groupe de Chasse (GC) II/4 were escorting a Potez 63-11 formation on the Rethel Ardennes region sector. One of the escorting patrol was composed of: Second Lieutenant Plubeau, Captain Engler, and Lieutenant Girard. They engaged no less the three different aircraft formations Hs 126, He 111 and Bf 109s in the 30 min period. damaging several and shooting down the Hs 126, Several He 111s and 2 Bf 109's, perhaps damaged another Bf 109..

Heck of a mission!!
**Warp after take off,, ***After engaging the he 111 Do Not Warp! Again,, Fly the mission and enjoy what happens. Plibeau GC II-4 All the airplanes engaged in this battle came back, except Captain Guieus machine that was damaged during the attack on the bombers. Captain Guieu managed to land his crippled airplane on a French airfield occupied by the Royal Air Force. This was not the case on the German side. Effectively, one or two 109s - depending on the reporting sources, will be reported as missing. On that particular day, around 1615 hours, the Me 109s of 7.JG 53 entered combat with eight French Air Force Curtisses in the Rethel sector. Oberfeldwebel Franz Gotz, Feldwebel Galubinski, and Unteroffizier Neuhoff each claimed one individual victory. But, the Staffel lost his leader Obertleutnant Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke, who had to bail out of his burning airplane.
According to Wilcke's journal, which is kept in the Freiburg Bubdesarchiv (number RL 10/277), Franz Gotz's airplane was also shot down, and those two future renowned Luftwaffe aces were taken prisoner. The Henschel 126 (in ETO Hs 123) more than likely belonged to 3.(H)/41 who lost two airplanes that day in the Northern part of France. It was not possible to identify the first 109 claimed by Plubeau; however, one airplane of III./JG 52 was compelled to make an emergency landing in Merzig, following an aerial battle. Finally, the Heinkel 111s shot down were probably those of II.KG 55, which lost several airplanes on that day in the Sedan region. It is however certain that both ME 109s shot down on that particular mission were victims of GC II/4, and in view of the circumstances of this air battle, it is possible to attribute the downing of Wilcke to Engler, and the downing of Gotz to Plubeau.

I enjoy flying this type of early fighter so much I wrote a 1940 campaign where the allied fighter was the P-36. Axis planes include the HS 123.

I don't know how realistic the flight model is, but the P-36 is rarely bested in a dogfight, especially when I modify it to run AvH French 12.5mm MGs instead of puny 30 cals......:tommygun2:

May 4/5th 1943.
596 aircraft - 255 Lancasters, 141 Halifaxes, 110 Wellingtons, 80 Stirlings, 10 Mosquitos - on the largest 'non-1,000' raid of the war to date and the first major attack on Dortmund.

31 aircraft - 12 Halifaxes, 7 Stirlings, 6 Lancasters, 6 Wellingtons - lost, 5.2 per cent of the force. A further 7 aircraft crashed in bad weather at the bomber bases. The initial Pathfinder marking was accurate but some of the backing-up marking fell short. A decoy fire site also attracted many bombs. But half of the large force did bomb within 3 miles of the aiming point and severe damage was caused in central and northern parts of Dortmund.

<Title> ETO Campbell Battlecruiser Strike HH 901
<Overview> The German battlecruisers Sharnhorst and Gueisenau are hiding in Breast harbor. We have had several sorties and no major damage to either battlecruiser. The Sharnhorst is in a dock, Gueisenau is your target. Hit the Battlecruiser Gueisenau and get Home. 22 Squadron brought the Bristol Beaufort into operational service; receiving the first aircraft in November 1939 and, after an intense work up at North Coates in Lincolnshire, the Squadron resumed operations in April 1940, beginning with mine laying sorties. It moved to RAF Thorney Island where torpedo operations were resumed in August. In order to cover a wider area of sea the Squadron sent out detachments, to RAF Abbotsinch (to test the Torpedo with Wings), then to St Eval, being the most regular.

<Intelligence> 22 Squadron made attacks on the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in Brest. During one of these, on 6 April 1941. Flying Officer Kenneth Campbell and his crew made a daring and courageous penetration of the formidable defences and hit the Gneisenau with a torpedo just before being shot to pieces. The Gneisenau was out of action for nine months and Flying Officer Campbell was awarded the VC, posthumously. Throughout 1941 the Squadron was on the attack constantly and when the year ended it had sunk over 100,000 tons of enemy shipping. Hit your target and get home. Tally Ho! Good Hunting
Yea the brave souls did their best , and the little Beauforts fought like lions in the attack.
