Great idea over at avsim.

To celebrate the release of "Flight", let's everyone support our existing FSX vendors by purchasing and add-on on Feb 29th. Vendors can support this with a one day sale if they are up to it.

Hi,

Hard to read your intentions with this post, but IMHO (MY opinion :icon_lol:) there is no reason to "celebrate" the release of MS-Flight in any way.

I'm not a "Flight" tester (just a humble FS9/FSX designer), and my knowledge of "Flight" is as good as anything I can read on the Internet; being facts, fiction, and/or speculation.
No point in summerising the millions of words written about "Flight" on various forums, but as far as I can tell now:
if "MS-Flight" would have been "FS11": Yes, there would be reason to celebrate it; IMO. But it clearly isn't, as far as I can tell.

In summary: good post !. Just missing the "" around the word Celebrate :icon_lol:

Cheers, Rob

To show real support I'd say buy something without sales. :jump:

Could I possibly get a 3 to 6 month window for "sale" information to be released? :icon_lol:

:running: <--- hours in day vs. workload ---> :mixedsmi:

And if I may repeat my FS motto? Please support your smaller developers. Some of them make some really good stuff! :applause:

Too bad there's not much (oh wait-no) mention about supporting freeware authors in that post.

...Well, not to be too nit-picky, but it seems the whole point is to show support for FSX and its payware developers...not taking anything away from the freeware folks who give us outstanding free addons all the time, for free. But, Microsoft has chosen to eliminate all FREEWARE....TOTALLY!!! Microsoft has decided to screw not only the users, but the developers of both pay and freeware. Now, it is all...FEE-WARE.

...I will buy 4 or 5 payware addons on the 29th. I will also comb the various flightsim sites and download some freeware sceneries and stuff.....and I will make it a point to email those developers and thank them for all of the hard work and contributions :icon29:

I don't know if I'll do 4 or 5 but I will be buying FSX payware on the 29th. As for freeware.......I think its well knnown how much we on this forum appreciate the hard work that many on this forum have put into their efforts. I know I show my support both here and in my screenshot artworks that I like doing.

But...thank you again to all the freeware folks....that you for your hard work and all the time that takes to create such things.

Now....what shall I buy on the 29th????? think I'll be doing some scenery from Europe.

..Europe? Now that is a novel idea.....

Might be a good day to purchase my NZSI scenery that day...

Great idea overall. And I agree, the freeware developers just make this hobby even more satisfying with their labors of love.

When you see just how much FS9 development (and often freeware too) is still going on, for 90% of simmers, FSX has a VERY LONG life ahead of it. With newer PC's and add-ons of current quality (although pricey at the moment) it really will be the enthusiasts choice for years and years to come.

Has anyone been able to run FSX or FS9 on a virtual machine? That will be the next hurdle as at some point, probably within five to seven years, the operating system (Windows 12?) will no longer support the software. It has already happened to me on a few games I used to enjoy like Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed from EA.

As with Flight, when a code base becomes too cumbersome to support legacy code, the legacy code gets left behind.

IMO a "protest" such as this has little productive outcome.
