Hi all,

I'm thinking of dusting off my cfs2 discs to give it a whirl again, does anyone have any screenies of the latest scenery enhancements please, especially UK ones if there are any. I've heard mention of a BoB pack too.

many thanks, :salute:

Hi PP/Clive,
Managed to lure you into the senior sim then?..ha ha!

One of the best overall CFS2 all-in-one for european scenery is Rami's superb install, including land class, rivers, coastlines, infrastructure, airfields, buildings (including BoB scenery) with full instructions etc etc, here's his link.. http://www.box.net/shared/knb1l0ztobhs2esb14rb

Vietnam, also Spanish Civil War being worked on.

If you search for posts by Jagdflieger, he often posts some excellent screenies, which shows off CFS2 to the best. Jagd can you oblige?

I know you're a great CFS3-er, so it'd be good if you stay a while and add to the CFS2 world.

Cheers Shessi

p.s find a way to have frame rate friendly trees world wide (as CFS3), and you'll make a lot of people happy!!!!

Shessi,

Aw, shucks....you dun made me blush.

But yes, Pattle. I have worked considerably in the UK, building GSL ports and/or other facilities at Dover, East London, Ramsgate, Gosport, Bembridge, Southampton, Bristol, Portsmouth, Portland, Harwich, the Hawker Aircraft Factory, Great Yarmouth, and Glasgow.

Oh yeah...there's a genuine Thames that actually cuts through London now. :mixedsmi:

There are also GSL ports and facilities in Europe, including: Cherbourg, Antwerp, St. Malo, Volendam, Wilhelmshaven, Emden, Narvik, Nantes, St. Nazaire, Boulogne, Dover, and Calais. They ain't perfect, but it's much better than a barren landscape.

This isn't even including Ettico's EuroTargets. :medals:

I have installation guides for the admittedly complex scenery that is now available.

Here is one for the ETO: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=49&id=2931

And here is one for the MTO: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=49&id=2932

Here is a link to the BoB base instaler. It's now a manual install; and avoids many of the problems it caused in the past: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=45&id=2668

Here is the page for Achim's airfields (anything with JHS): http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=45&sort=N&page=3&pp=15

This is more than enough for now, I'm sure. But to wet your palate, there is also now custom GSL scenery for the following places: Morocco, Gibraltar, Malta, Dakar, Taranto, Bari, Jan Mayen, Bermuda, Pantelleria, Beirut, and La Rochelle.

Wow, the scenery has come on long way! I shall set myself the task of installing over the weekend and get re-aquainted with the 'senior sim' :) Thanks for the links guys! :icon29:

Yes that was always the one thing beyond the grasp of cfs2 modders. I'm sure if it were possible it would have been done by now, but you never know!

Good to see you here PP/Clive.It was always a pleasure working with you on the ETO/PTO Expansion addons for CFS3.

You too Clive? Cool....one thing about cfs2 is that with a fairly new machine it is really FR friendly!!!!

Hi Mid. I've installed the basic sim and with everything maxed out it runs beautifully. The reason for coming back to it is that I've just got a new (recon) PC with a 3.2 P4 chip in it but my GFX card won't fit it so I'm back to my original FX5200 - which is hopeless on cfs3.

I'd forgotten how good it all looks!

If you think it looks good with your stock install, wait until you download and install all of the fantastic scenery that has been created by the guys here! MaskRider, Pen32Win, Jean Bomber, Xavier, Achim and others have made this a wonderful flight sim, though old, it has maintained its youth with all of the really excellent developers that remained and joined over the years. Compared to a stock install on a 486 PC back when first released, CFS2 thrives on modern, medium to high end machines of today!

The ONLY thing that could make it better, IMO, is to be able to have the FS9/2004 autogen scenery abilities, or the IL2 scenery abilities.

Hi all,

Are there any tutorials on scenery creation please? Have searched around but can't find anything specific on mdl's and bgl's etc.

Am thinking about the possibility of converting some of my cfs3 airfields into cfs2 and maybe adding trees to the scenery around the airfields to make it look a bit less bare.

Also, is there a better UK mesh?

Apologies if these questions have been asked many times before, but I've been away a long time and if I did know the answers once, I've long forgotten! :icon_lol:

Thanks.

Pat,

If you look at my initial response to your query on scenery enhancements, I provided direct links to three guides, one for the ETO, one for the MTO, and another for the Pacific. Each one contains step-by-step instructions and hyperlinks. :salute:

Yep, got those thanks Rami :),

What I'm looking for though is instructions on how to actually build the scenery and airfields etc. I have a load of airbase outlines and gmax buildings and other models that I've made for cfs3 that I want to see if I can convert for use in cfs2.

Pat,

In that case, I would highly recommend you seek out Achim27619, Tobob, Gius, MaskRider, Pen32Win, Robert John, and Wolfi. They would have much of the requisite knowledge to answer your questions on modeling and scenery.

There's also this...

Maskrider's blended scenery tutorial is an excellent guide to building scenery from scratch. http://mask-rider.net/MaskRider2008/index.html

Pat Pattle,
Robert John's tutorials that Rami linked to are a great start for your GMAX models.

If you just want non-explodable objects, just export them from the gmax fs2002 gamepack.

Hi to all,
reading The very well explained Rami's MTO I would said one thing about this part:

from the doc:
"Note: Instead of keeping these in a separate folder, take the .bgl files from the Desert_Scen\scenery folder and move them to the Afnor_Scen\scenery folder.

Next, you will want to take the texture files from the Desert_Scen\texture folder and move them to the Afnor_Scen\texture folder, overwriting when prompted."

Personnally I prefer install the Desert_Scen separatly and no mix it with the Afnor_Scen because they don't have the same texture files, the Desert_Scen (South Tunisia, Lybia and Egypt) being more desertic and dry than the Afnor_Scen (SouthSpain,Gibraltar area,West Morocco,North Algeria,Oran area,Pantelleria and Pellagic and the WIP North Tunisia suite) That have large parts of agricol fields and forests in some place and these texture files will be overwrited and will give some unwanted results .:icon_lol:

Jean bomber,

I thought about including that, and almost didn't, but only included it after I tested the scenery extensively. I couldn't notice any jarring clashes, if there were any changes, the differences were subtle. :running:

Thanks very much for all the help so far guys, I've downloaded all the tuts etc. that you've kindly linked to, just need to get my head into it, it looks a bit more complicated than cfs3 but I like a challenge.
:)
Cheers! :icon29:

Pat welcome to the party:wavey:

"... it looks a bit more complicated than cfs3..."
I 'm not sure of that, yes there is a learning stage ....but the interest we have to do sceneries with the old cfs2 is the whole world map it have and the flexibilty to (re)build, with the accurate coords, any place we want.
The main issue ....,we work with VTP1,lines and poly, instead of fs9 or cfs3 using VTP2 and autogen that give the trees missing in the ol' sim,it's our Graal that perhaps someone ,if it's possible, one day could found the way to use them .....

the subtle difference is like in the gibraltar 1940 pic, with the nude rock .....where the monkeys will play now ?
