View Full Version : Who has the Captain Sim 732?

Landman
February 7th, 2012, 06:15
Has anyone here purchased the new Captian Sim 737-200? The 732 is one of my favorite aircraft of all time. However, lets face it, Captain Sim aircraft tend to be bug riddled upon first release. If you have this aircraft tell me what you like and don't like about it and what bugs does it have that need to be fixed? Right now all that has been released is the exterior model. I will wait for the cockpit to be finished before purchasing but I would like to get initial impressions on the flight model.

Its a goodie , but it really missus the the real feel 200 VC , very surprised as most the cockpit detail did not change so much from a 72 , one thing i did'nt see was when the thrust rev was applied , the lack of smoke effect .

I have it and agree that is great - proof that Capt Sim can improve their products each time they release something

The VC on that one looks a little too plasticy for my taste. Hopefully Captain Sim does a better job. A 737-200 would be nice to play with.

Textures can be improved by anyone, so adding some weathering or depth wouldn't be impossible.

Sweet! I've had pretty good luck with most of the JF products and in general they're good quality and evolving at a good pace. I didn't even know JF was working on a 732 but from the screens it looks pretty good and I will definitely be buying it. No doubt there will be tons of repaints but I hope to see both early and late Piedmont schemes. I grew up watching them in the air overhead every day with that familiar whine and roar of the JT8D engines.

If not, I think Eaglesoft might be working on one:

You shouldn't have to improve a payware product like that. It should be right from the start.

Yes, but what *is* "right"?

I prefer my textures non-photoreal, for example...and adding a speck here and there isn't the end of the world.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know the other ones existed. I love the old JT8-D powered airliners like the 732, DC-9, and 727. Is it just me or do the exhaust nozzles on the justflight website look a tad too small.

I have the 737-100 by Captain Sim. I have no complaints... But I couldn't help using the RADitor tool to update the radius (viewing distance way too far away in spot view and preview screen). The CS 737-100 needs the same cure as the CS 727-200...
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?61636-Aircraft-selection-screen-size-question&p=668048&viewfull=1#post668048

And I did the 727 VC swap described in the CS forum here:
http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1315023933/15#15

I tried to make it look like a 2 engine panel... can't say I succeeded much (3 throttle levers...). But I find it's still a better alternative to the default FSX 737-800 glass cockpit... while waiting for the complete CS package with real 1960's 737 VC.

Whoa! Awesome job on the temporary VC. The premanant one is what I am waiting for before purchasing. Does you temporary one have the 737 overhead or the 727 one?

vonstroheim

Does your temporary one have the 737 overhead or the 727 one?

It's the complete CS 727-200 panel, overhead, engineer's, pedestal, everything... and mixed with the CS 737-100 flight dynamics, I'm sure the purists will be outraged! But Captain Sim makes wonderful looking cockpits, couldn't resist... And if you don't use fancy FMC and such modern avionics, no bugs as far as I'm concerned, and pretty decent FPS... (and no FMC, MFD, PFD, EICAS in this line of classic Boeing anyway...).

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/434381cs727vcin737.jpg

My only complaint: not enough repaints... so far... But the ones I found are fun indeed!

Excellent a 727 CS merge. Thank you for HU and link. I will implement that. I need to give the Canadian North Paint a work out. For sometime I have been looking for a painter to do a First Air and the New look Air Inuit 737-200. Then my northern pride of CS is complete.

CaptainSim 737-200 with VC is available since a few days ("Experimental" version 0.5, for test pilot only http://www.captainsim.com/). This "Step II" model is quite interesting. The VC is complete, very good looking, and a lot of bugs found by test pilots in the 0.4 version were addressed. You'll have to wait for the 1.0 version Step III for a complete passenger cabin and "realistic" flight dynamic.

If you purchase the 0.5 version now, the 1.0 / Step III upgrade will be free. I guess it's a good idea to grab this 0.5 version now cause it's nice to have the option to have a virtual cockpit without cabin, easier on FPS... This "light" VC option is not always available, the CS 767 has it, not the CS 757 for example...

737-200 KLM repaint in the free livery section. Here over beautiful NL2000 scenery.

Canadian North repaint is included in the base pack! CG_1976 is going to like this one I hope...

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/375840737200cn.jpg

VC is very good looking. Didn't play with all the functions yet... FPS are very good.

No 2D panel but I'm trying to build one, 16:9 ratio of course, 4:3 later...

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/9207737372dpanel.jpg

With some efforts the 737-200 VC is compatible with the "Step I" 737-100 early 0.1 version... cool!

Still trying to build a 2D panel... sounds ridiculous, isn't it? The CaptainSim gauges are not intended for a 2D panel, only for the VC. So I had to use TinMouse gauges and some default one... rather pointless...

Another doomed experiment... Not fair to CaptainSim to publish this, not to mention copyright issues with the TinMouse team... But there is a lot of similarities!

I had the CS exterior-->then I bought JF and used the VC for the CS and finally I bought the CS upgrade -200 VC)

Why?
Hard to wait :mixedsmi:

JF has a 2D panel which I use for my Tinmouse,Cantu and even Yeodesign(because of the available repaints) in FSX

But-->JF gauge resolution is far less then CS and the VC is a MAJOR framerate hit(35-->17)

So if the 2D issue wouldnd be-->CS almost all the way

PS:I tried a 2D with CS gauges and the JF bitmap-->almost impossible as even if you get it the CS run only with the CS sys gauge.So I am back to JF 2 D with some tinmouse gauges

A decent alternative to an CS 737-200 improbable 2D panel: an additionnal camera definition to simulate a fixed 2D panel. Works for any monitor's ratio. In the aircraft.cfg file locate the section [CameraDefinition.001] and add this on top of it. You'll have to rename the other camera definitions below accordingly (002 to 004).

[CameraDefinition.001]
Title = "Captain"
Guid = {8FCB0D6A-210A-40F3-BE67-677BD6591780}
Origin = Virtual Cockpit
MomentumEffect = no
SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
SnapPbhReturn = False
PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
PanPbhReturn = False
Track = None
ShowAxis = YES
AllowZoom = TRUE
InitialZoom = 0.80
SmoothZoomTime = 2.0
ZoomPanScalar = 1.0
ShowWeather = Yes
XyzAdjust = TRUE
ShowLensFlare=FALSE
Category = Cockpit
PitchPanRate=20
HeadingPanRate=60
InitialXyz=0.20, -0.05, -0.10 // left/right - up/down - front/back
InitialPbh=9.00, 0.00, 0.00 // angle - torsion - rotation

You may adjust slightly the InitialZoom, InitialXyz and Pbh values to your liking.

I look forward to that repaint, vonstroheim! Also, thanks for all your updates to this thread. You spoiled me and I mostly stopped going to the CS forum, knowing you'd announce all those beta updates.

This is Captain Sim's best release to me. When it first came out with the beta stuff, I felt like they were just trying to get something out ahead of the JustFlight version and particularly the Milviz one. But I've changed my mind about that. They were really responsive to forum posts and each version was a big improvement over the previous. Now with 1.0 they've got a release that will only have a few bugs, not something they've been able to do in the past. To me, they've made huge strides in the way they deal with their customers.

cheers,
steve

Sorry Bruce, I don't have the ADV expansion pack (yet) so I didn't downloaded your 737-200ADV repaints.

vonstroheim, that's easily sorted, you can use the adv paints on the -200 base pack, by modifying the cfg from

[fltsim.0]
title=CS 737-200ADV Captain PaintXXXX
sim=csx732
model=adv

to

[fltsim.0]
title=CS 737-200 Captain PaintXXXX
sim=csx732
model=200

the only major difference is the extended engine nacelles.(which use a seperate texture sheet (no17).

This Delta Express Powerpuff tail must have been a nightmare to paint! Good job indeed. (Search "Bruce Martin 737" at Avsim to get those)

Not as bad as my next scheme, LOL

Thanks for the HU.

Does the upgrade integrate V1 callout and EPR Gauge mod? Havent had a chance to access my account.

Nope, I double checked. I backed up all my previous addons for this model is it's a fairly easy drop-in.

Unistalled mine when I got the Milviz bird. Might now be worth a side by side comparison....
