I haven't seen this posted but it appears there is hopeful news concerning TacPac,I'ts in Closed Beta with Great results.

From Jon Blum Feb 1...

VRS is very pleased to announce that we have entered closed beta for the TacPack for FSX. The current number of issues coming back is relatively low, which leaves us fairly confident that we'll be able to enter an open beta sooner rather than later.

THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO OPEN POSITIONS IN CLOSED BETA, SO PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US WITH REQUESTS.

Once again, OPEN beta will be available to ALL preorder customers as soon as closed beta is complete. You do not need to email us, you just need a forum account and your TacPack preorder. If you are not a VRS customer, you will need a copy of the Superbug for FSX in order to obtain the TacPack. We will notify you via email when open beta has begun, and we will also post an announcement here.

Once again we thank all of you who pre-ordered, and we would like to remind potential TacPack customers that the preorder promotion will end on 2/15/2012 12:00 AM PST. Note that this is NOT a ship date. You simply won't be able to preorder beyond that point, and retail sales will begin only after shipping. We intend to ship the software only after we're satisfied that beta has completely run its course. At that time, all existing customers will be notified via email and the retail TacPack will be available as a download from your customer page (https://secure.softwarekey.com/solo/customers/Default.aspx). Please refer to your TacPack or Superbug invoice for login details.

The TacPack will resume full retail pricing of $34.95 after release.

We're almost there, and we're sure you'll find it was worth the wait! Thanks again for your patronage.

After I saw it was in closed beta I went ahead and preordered it even though I will not install it until it has been released for four months or so.

I was not even going to preorder, but I went ahead and spent the time this weekend after I saw the closed beta post on the VRS website on Saturday.

I was wondering now that it is in closed beta if they will have a spike in preorders.

http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=18572 Been thinking about the Super Hornet this may decide it, but I have a question first. Is this a plane that I will have to start from cold and dark everytime or does it load in the sim ready to fly? I ask because my sim time is limited so I would rather not have to spend a half hour just starting the thing. Understand this is not rip at accusim or whatever crowd someday I hope to have time to do it in the future just need to know to same myself time and angstiness. Thanks for the input

While the VRS Superbug is ready to fly without a cold and dark cockpit there are a few things that will need be activated prior to takeoff, arming ejecting seat and setting proper takeoff trim based on runway or carrier launch and you will need to read a bit of the pilots manuel. It isn't much to learn for a basic test flight but nessecary if you don't want a bunch of warning beepers to start up and distract you. All and all, in my opinion the VRS F-18 is well worth the price.

I have alway been more interested in actual in flight systems modeling rather than the spend 20 minutes to accurately set-up the engine start sequence thereby losing a third of my sim time b4 work. Thanks again

I understand, I'm the same way.
Takes less than 20 sec to flip 4x swithces in the VRS Hornet before I roll and I could eliminate one of those, by a check in the options panel.
For a quick "get up and go" it is one of the most dependable in FSX, maybe the quickest of any with such deep systems modeling.

To be fair, Accusim allows for a control+e start which warms the engine oil and everything to take-off levels in a second or two as well. Nice to have these options for the systems of Accusim or the Hornet here so that start-up time is basically nothing while still getting the full systems package during flight.
