I loved the original 1953 Corvette, but this is taking things too far. Maybe if the real Corvette has evolved into this, okay, but as is, it's deplorable. And they left that original interior. Barf!

I'm a fan of the '58 - '60 Vettes myself but THIS? It's just plain wrong...

I have never liked the 53 Vette...not the original, and definitely not this monstrosity.

Yeah,...it definitely looks goofy. The front end may match the rear end area,...but nothing in between. I'm a bit surprised that Chevrolet would try to pull off such a visual stunt as this one.

Front end doesn't look too bad...but the rear is a disgrace. It would have looked much better if the rear tails were flush with the body panels rather than in pods, imho.

I'm not a big fan of any of the new generation 'vettes. ('72, the last year for chrome bumper front-end, is newest fiberglass coffin that looks good to me). Like Neil, I prefer the quad-headlight 58-60s but any of the first-gens look good to me.

This "thing" does have one good point going for it though... The body panels are fitted much better than on an original 53-55. :)

It for darned sure looks a lot better than what Buster Dobbs did to serial number 77 back in '59 too.
Google "Buster Dobbs 53 Corvette 77" for pics. I like 40s-50s custom styling, but that one is plain just nasty! An overdose of late-50s customizing gone horribly wrong, the only thing it's missing is an overdone Watson-style paintjob.

Kilo,
Actually those rear taillight fins copy the 53-55 pretty well...they do stick out a bit too far though.

Not being a fan of American motors generally - and not being American - I should like to say ... chuckle, chuckle; what were they smoking? :icon_lol:

I like the look of the Gen 1 Corvettes. But that thing has still too much new Corvette in it.

I prefer the '53 - '57 designs, smaller, basic, sporty. '57 was my fav.

'58 - '62 larger, wider, less appealing, then silliness afterward.

I like the swept '53 look ... but that's just my artistic eye at work. :-)

I have to agree with Uncle Milton, 53 through 57 were my fave Corvettes. But I still preferred Studebaker Hawks, now that was a dang ahead-of-its-time cool automobile.

Talking about Studes, go here for some fine classic old Stude shots:

The company had nothing to do with that build.

airattackimages,
You're correct,...GM/Chevy didn't built this Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition but by a company called "Advanced Automobile Technologies"....located in Rochester Hills, MI. However, GM/Chevy must have had given it's blessings before this Vette could be released.
An excellent book that deals with the mindset of the GM fossilized bureaucracy and it's dominance of Bean Counters and Number Crunchers,....which directly lead to GM's demise,...is "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters" by former vice chairman of General Motors,...Bob Lutz. If you're a car guy,....you should pick this book up. It reads a bit dry but well worth the given insight how GM would continually shoot itself in the foot....over and over.
