Are those yours?

The P-51 accident was definitely the thing I remember most from that year. It was so awful. I've said it many times before, but I've never heard a hundred thousand people be so quiet before. You could see that look on everyone's face. EAA still doesn't feel the same for me anymore after witnessing that. I still get emotional today when I go back and think about it all.

A week or two later I went to a drag racing event with my dad and one of the jet dragsters was completely demolished in a wreck. I got that same feeling inside again. However the driver somehow survived with minor injuries.

No Kiwi, the photos I found while searching the net for resources. I wondered what the long trail of black smoke was from. Nothing labelled. That is a bad experience to endure.

It's one of those years that I didn't go, and after the incident, I was glad that I hadn't. Tri-State Aviation hopes to have Gerry's P-51A back up and flying by late summer of next year. It has been under complete and extensive rebuild, and a few months back the wing was once again mated to the fuselage. The aircraft may be finished in a China-Burma-India Theatre scheme, as that is what Gerry originally had plans for. The aircraft has the nickname "A Freakin' A", as that is what Gerry would always refer to it as.

It's sorta funny that Airventure/Oshkosh be brought up around this time of year, but this thread was just posted yesterday, with some amazing (mainly warbird) photography from this past year's event (be sure to look through both pages):
