im going to share just a small part of the past 5 days of my life here in helping others in this devastating hurricane...

i come home with a postit note on my computer from my oldest son,,, "seems like someone has ticked off someone about something dealing with something" clueless as to what,,,whom,,,where,,, hope its not about what im fixing to post...

Sunday i and some other friends left for the gulf coast to give a helping hand,,, we get there a few hours before dark and are in shock with the amount of people lost,,, confussed,,, and at the new look of the landscape of what once was towns,,, homes,,, farms...

with large gas sucking trucks we pack food,,, water,,, cloths,,, you name it we took it,,, 5 trucks with trailers overloaded with everything from pampers to tampons and 500gals of gas...

we drive as far in to the Big Easy as we can which is some 10 miles away,,, with 2 flat tires we said we well stop here and pitch tents,,,,,, to my amazment the hot thing we were asked for was gas... the 500gal only lasted the first 5 hours... after topping off our own tanks,,, we limited each to only 5gal... we asked each what the gas was for and all said in a blunt way "to get the hell out of here"...

with the USarmy comeing in full force,,, lots were wondering what took them so long... others were afraid to leave what little they had left,,, some were looking for there family members,,, children with little on but underwear... after the 2nd day everything we had brought was gone,,, we ourself were finding it hard to hold onto our on for the need of others...

with a full tank of gas in my son's dirtbike i took off to the Big Easy just to get a better look,,, i get to the waters edge and stop... most homes as of yesterday were still half underwater... i turn north to follow the waters edge to just see for myself,,, i come to a small group of people which put in an uneasy feeling for they all had firearms,,, no it was not the police ether,,, as i road by slowly with colt.45 on my side one said nice bike and then took off like a greased streak of lighting,,, yes shots were fired,,, if at me im not sure thats how fast i was moving... i come to one block where all homes were leveled yet one looked as if God himself had put his hand over it and not a broken window in the home... just look at the pictures of WW2 and add 12' of water... im sure you'all have seen the news pictures so no need for me to post any of the 150 i have...

the 3rd day a man was over by the wayside with a steer,,, confussed,,, homeless and hungry,,, he said i really dont want to do this but does anyone know how to kill and clean a cow??? my buddys and i killed and dressed out the cow and it was very messy for the lack of clean fresh water...as were cutting it up i made the statment to the man that we and im sure others really thank him for giving up his cow,,, in sort reply he said "its not my cow,,, i held on to it thoughout the worst of it to stay afloat,,, that he had no idea who's cow it was"...

yet as we were leaving yesterday there telling us,,, that the USarmy is comeing and going to make everyone leave or be removed by force... when we were getting ready to leave close to a hundred were standing around watch the only TV for miles to get the latest news,,, we did bring 5 familys back with us to try and find placement for them close to home... i can see why... the place New Orleans area is destroyed,,, its a swamp of nasty smelly water mixed with everything from,,, floating human waste,,, to body parts,,, half roten birds,,, people,,, pets,,, as well as money... yes i found a $100 bill floating at the edge of the water,,, with a tearful eye at what are these 1000's and 1000s of people going to do i see a small boy on his bike,,, wrap the $100 bill around my last candy bar and hand it to him... yes i cleaned the money before handing it over... as we pull off with the genarator running on empty,,, TV still going,,, some waveing goodbye,,, the man in the cab with me said stop!!! this is my home!!! with tearful eyes again,,, i said there is no home here for anyone... and wont be for some while,,,on the 700 mile trip back home,,, we talk about the future and what he would like to do,,, which in itself put us all in better spirits... we drive without stoping to rest just for gas,,, which i might add had droped in price in just 5 days a few pennys...

today my life goes on,,, im off to Richmond Va. to watch one of the best Nascar Races thats left...

so did i brake any new rules in this post??? did someone get there Feeling (whoo whoo whoo whohooooo feelings) hurt??? after scaning the outhouse and the other outhouse "netwings" (they both look the same really) i think it has something to do with post like this one not really sure though... i missed whatever happened...

if this post is out of line with the "New" rules then by all means delete it... dont ban me for making a statement about what iv seen and feel... i dont have time to filter through the many, many post that are put here over the past 5 days and will be gone for the next 3...

as with the new server move a few months back,,, i told my oldest son (19) not to use my computers,,, to post,,, or even get a name here or at other sim forums,,, just use my tag/ID,,, to view and say nothing,,, and i see he has followed my wishes...

i would like to thank the crew here at the outhouse for helping with donations,,, and others who have a hand in it...

iv found in life if you have nothing nice to say sometimes its best to say nothing...

Rooster,
That's a hell of a good thing you did there.
This account of your experiances has for some reason moved me more than most others that I've read. Do you mind if I copy it and forword it to others?

Rooster,

You are a true hero and an embodiment of the true spirit of America.
You'll probably never get a medal or any recompense or recognition other than a few "thank you's," but I hope that it will ease your passage through the Pearly Gates.

well to tell the truth how this got started,,, sum it up in one word,,, WIFE!!!

she organized it and plained it in one day... along with dontations from our church and a few of my buddys that dont drink or smoke cigg. anymore,,, we took on the challange... what we did was just a drop in the very large bucket of need though... im sure we well do more in the coming days,,, months to help... we'er already looking to do something the week of Oct. 2 (Nascar race in Talladega) not sure what were going to do but knowing Miss Roo as i do we (racing buddys as well as our wifes) will do something... its really not about racing,,, getting brownie points at the gate,,, as wife puts it "what would Jesus do"

to be very honest about it,,, its really gotten my buddys and i alot closer to true friendship,,, and understanding its not what you got but what you give...
