Have you checked your task manager to see what aps are running before it freezes?
Have you run a virus scan lately?

Its an older WinME system I checked a few sites also to see what were on the boards and they had me dump a few proggies running on taskmanger in the background "PChealth" and one other I ran spy checker and anti virus and she has been running for 8 hours no freezeup heehee hee Oh i also blew out the dust :costumes: maybe the processor was over heatin? either withch way this one is just a back up incase gawd for sakes the "ole lady" dies on me heehee even salvaged an 80giger from it to put in the old gal more HDD space for more planes more ships and more scenery
my wife's bussiness partner let me have it because it would "FreezeUp"

yes check both your CPU fan and your case fan. Take off the side with the power off and make sure they are both spinning freely and your not getting any rattling from them (you get dust and lint in there and the bearings go) If the are ok you might wanna see if you can get in your bios and see if you have a CPU Temp Sensor and check the Temp. If it gets to hot say above 140 you can ruin you CPU try to keep it as close to 100F at idle maybe 110F. If that doesnt work email me. Ill see what else I can figure out. I get alot of HP's and Compaqs in my shop for heat related issues. There cases are the easiest to cool.

I was given a 1 ghz gateway for the same reason, after 10 minutes running it would freeze up and nobody could figure it out or fix it.
over a 6 month period I changed
memory
video card
processor
processor fan
hard drive
cdrom
floppy
all cables
at this time I was thinking motherboard, I was not going to spend anymore money on this piece of crap, lol
on the day i decided to junk it, i grabbed a used power supply from my old junk, bingo............... its still working.
