Well I've got the Q6600 up to 2.925gHz with a fsb consequence of 1.3gHz. The Ocz DDR3 ram is functioning at 1.33gHz and Pcie is now at 120mHz and all seems stable. Be interesting to see if longevity is limited but CPU temp rises to 60 deg C and system to 49 deg C after a 3 hour burn-in.
Overclocking with the Asus Maximus is very simple; we'll see if it was too simple:costumes:

I've left the Asus 8800GTX alone as temperatures get to 69 deg C without any overclocking.

Roger, what CPU fan and heatsink are you using, OEM? 60 degrees is too hot. IF OEM either switch to a Tunig Tower or Zalman 9700 for your CPU. You should be able to oc to 3.4 GHz and maintain under 42 degrees C. Also make sure you have a flow thru design inside your case from front to back. Make sure air is being pumped in from the bottom front of your case and exhaust to the rear of the case.

Ok Ted,
Yes it is the oem sink and fan so I'll declock until I can get a better one. I have the case fans as you suggested, in at the front; out at the back and the temp of 60 deg. was after 3hours of running FsX windowed so I could run the monitor widow as well. If you don't tax the system the multiplyer drops from 9 to 6 (I thought it was a fault until I googled the problem, lol).

Still it seems the proc and the ram can be overclocked.

You will notice a very big difference in performance once you get the processsor running cool and fast as you climb over the 3 GHz area.
Good luck Roger
