For all of those who are using and loving the new Duxford scenery, I thought you would enjoy this news. The Fighter Collection's razorback Curtiss-built P-47G, "Snafu", had its first engine run yesterday (a very successful one!), following a lengthy restoration that has spanned much of the last decade. This is a key milestone, as the aircraft nearers closer to flight operations. I just thought I should share this, for all of those who are and will continue to taxi by or watch this aircraft fly, as part of ACG's new Duxford scenery.

Here are some photos of the aircraft from earlier this year, after the paintwork had been applied, but the internal systems and other items had yet to be completed. The aircraft will surely be a star flying attraction at next year's Duxford air shows, especially as it will be so great to see a 78th FG aircraft flying regularly from Duxford once again.

The TFC crew even went as far as duplicating a common modification that took place in the field on many razorback P-47's, that saw the factory rear-view mirror removed and fitted to the side of the aircraft, and a Spitfire mirror mounted to the top of the windscreen, providing greater rear-view coverage. The unique interior green paint used in the cockpit, is accurate to what Curtiss used on their P-47 production, which made them a bit different in interior apperance to their Republic-built counterparts.

Note the painted-over stencils - it would have been impossible to find a recreated detail like that on a warbird restoration just a decade ago. The TFC, as well as many other warbird restoration shops the world over, really are going to some great lengths to reproduce the looks of the aircraft as they originally were.
