Note I have a i2600K and a GTX580 both overclocked with a SSD and a hardrive and Matroxtriplehead2go with some Saitek panels.

1) Install using this method:

STOP once you get to "You are now ready to make your FSX.cfg edits and TUNE FSX" - ignore the rest.
http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html

2) Test it works. Maybe not great FPS but just that it works. Screen resolution same in game that it is on your PC.

3) If you have an NVIDIA card go here:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/

4) in Nvidia Inspector rather than 8SQ etc if you have a GTX580 only use "AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12" (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/330328-an-aa-mode-thats-worth-a-try/)

Why do this ? Answer = SMMOOOOOOOTHHH !

"Settings changes if you get blurries" attached file below.

5) Now to setup your FSX.cfg go here:
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
It will do it all for you.

6) Start FSX with unlimited frames and no outside frame limiter (this is because of using the Step 4 Nvidia setting otherwise you will need them)

7) Are you sick of switching through the views with the S key, and getting some distant tower view that makes the scenery around your aircraft turn all blurry, well this tweak removes the tower from the S key cycle - also makes scenery blurry in other views of your plane other than VC
(ref: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/14835-guide-how-to-remove-tower-view/)

8) Autogen tweak - http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/22631-adjusting-autogenerated-trees-and-buildings-per-cell-in-fsx/

9) For Matrox triplehead2go users at higher than 3840 resolutions eg 4320 or 5840 only - do not use WideViewAspect=true make it "false" instead. IF you do you 2D panels will give you the flashing cursor from hell and drag performance to nothing. Check Costco Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?costco/) and Harvey Norman Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?harvey-norman/).If it is false you need not change any of A2A's 2D panels and a number of others....not all.

The downside of having a non-wide view is easily fixed by using this tool. Nothing to install. Simply run it in the background before starting fsx by double clicking it. Check Winn Dixie Ad (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?winn-dixie/) and Lowe's Ad (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?lowes/). Then reduce the two sliders until you get the wideness of view you want (make them the same - the 2 sliders). You can still adjust your view the normal way in FSX this just gives you more range to do so.
http://www.tocaedit.com/dl/fsxfov3.zip (http://www.tocaedit.com/dl/fsxfov3.zip)

Using this tool you can reduce your view a bit which may improve performance.

10) For Matrox triplehead2go users with all resolutions - you still may need to change some planes 2D panels - for this the 6th post. Note IGNORE the A2A ones and maybe others if you have widescreenaspect=false....note Katana does need changing though.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?59145-Take-your-scenery-off-your-SSD-drive-to-save-space...by-P38man

12) Improve your single Saitek Instrument panel to show many things !!
http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/33532-sensational-freeware-for-saitek-instrument-panel-owners/page__fromsearch__1

13) FSX crashing on menus? - Avsim have this fix. You download UIAutomationCore.dll and put it in the root FSX directory. Note that there are a few versions you can try as discussed on this page. It has been reported that 6.0.6001.18000 is very good for Windows 7. Links on this page take you to download it.

14) Possible fix for gd3.dll crashes. Works with either freeware or payware version. Simply install FSUIPC. Basically you can read the log file and be amazed how many times it would have crashed. The program has tons of other features which can be unlocked if you purchase or you wish to support the developer. Works in PNW area more than other locations.

Interesting and informative post. As a matter of interest I have a GTX460 (2 gig ram version) and I use the Number 4 AA in Nvidia inspector tweak, to good effect.

I wonder do the FOV tweaks work for ATi`s eyefinity system, I find the distortion in the outer 2 monitors unusable, strangely in FS9 it is not nearly as bad as that in FSX.

Click through the link about performance using the FOVhack.

It should work with ANY system.

Well the FOV hack works "sort of" with Eyefinity, the distortion in the two outermost monitors can be turned down in the X axis but at the expense of the gauges in the ahead view becoming themselves distorted. I'm afraid it seems to be something I have to live with (or eliminate my peripheral vision) or return to FS9 for Eyefinity where the distortion is nowhere near as bad for some mysterious reason. The other tips were interesting too by the way, especially the Camera.cfg tweaks. Thanks. :applause:

Did you adjust BOTH sliders ? - check the links out especially the A2A one for this.

Reduce both sliders to the same value - they should be equal.

Also widescreenaspect = false

Also REDUCE your view from how you had it using widescreenaspect = true.

This TOGETHER with the setting at step 4 gets rid of blurries.

NOW how is it ?

Yes did all that but you get the X looking nice and the Y is wrong, get the Y right and the X is wrong. It gets to the point where tinkering gets in the way of actually flying the thing. I will just try to ignore my peripheral vision. All my research on the web and through Sapphire (the ATi card) seems to suggest that there is nothing amiss with the distortion and it should be expected mathematically, but how come it doesn't happen in FS9 to anywhere near the same extent?

I believe because simply the FOV is less ?

I am sure you are not understanding something:
- the FOV hack is used to give a wider FOV for widescreenaspect = false
- however you do not use it much
- do not try to get the same view as with widescreenaspect = true that would defeat the whole purpose of this and maybe get more jaggies.
- the point is to use the widescreenaspect=false and the FOV hack to have a REDUCED FOV view from only widescreenaspect = true so it MUST have less distortion !
- try it without the FOV hack and widescreenaspect = false and your distortion will be lower
- now use the FOV hack but only make the view a bit more not a lot more.
- do not have the sliders at different values

That is what the A2A post is about - if you read it there is a probably a "sweet" spot for you- look at the advantages and disadvantages in that post to determine what you are looking for.
