I remember when I was into RC stuff (30 odd years ago in the UK) there was a British Doctor who had built a large-scale Short Sunderland that was not much smaller than that one. It was very impressive and he brought it to one of our club's seaplane race events on the local lake. I've go some photos of it somewhere around here.

Years and years ago (late 1970s?), a group built a similiar size model of the Spruce Goose. It took several folks just to get all the gas motors started at once. Very impressive.

IIRC; the HK-1 was in an edition of Model Airplane News from the late 1970s; maybe early 1980s. That was back when only gas engines were being used; there were several folks standing around with the electric starters trying to get all eight engines going at once.

I assume like all R/C planes it eventually met it's fate or was retired. I searched the web for pictures; but found none. I want to think it had a wingspan of around 12 feet; about the size of this one or larger.
