Hey guys,

Man, suddenly I have a weird vista problem. Its taking my rig like 4 or 5 min's now to boot up?

Any theories? Spyware? A friend of mine had this issue a couple of times and had to take hers in after a while as it was taking too long to boot up. They never told her what it was. Any idea's what this could be?

This was 'out of the blue'. (I had installed some freeware DVD to iPod movie converters before this started happening..)

Bill have you tried un-installing that last program you installed, also remove the folder from the C drive and out of the registry. If that doesn't work go into MSCONFIG and uncheck all the start up programs. Post what happens, have ys done a ck disk yet.

I have had this too, suggest you go to last good restore point. That should correct it.

Bill,

I suggest you start by running an online virus scan at Kaspersky
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Then you might consider checking for spyware - great freeware Spyware scanner/ remover called "Malwarebytes" available at http://www.malwarebytes.org

That should give you a starting point.

You could also have incorrect free space reported - this slows down PC's
Reccomend you run checkdisk.

I have other reccomendations once you work through these.

Good Luck !

Part two:

You may also want to check out "Glary Utilities" (the freeware one) from http://www.glaryutilities.com/

This is a little swiss army knife repair tool for windows - might do something usefull for you !

Best of luck,

Paul

Deleted the converters (which didnt work anyways)... nothing
Turned off certain unknowns from Startup List in Run/msconfig..... nothing
Ran System restore, backjump about 3 days.... better
Turned off certain unknowns 'again' from Run/msconfig..... VOILA!!!

vista is now running like it was to begin with. (sigh of relief) I knew XP pretty well, but diagnosing this thing had me a bit worried... Usual tech charge at BB is about $75.00. I was hoping it wouldnt come to that.

Many thanks guys!
