This video is a powerful statement of heroism against impossible odds. Two Congressional Medal of Honor were awarded during this mission.




So long ago.... It is up to us to remind the Americans coming now to maturity, of this great bravery by these great guys....

Great video, thanks for the link. Good that the zeros ran out of fuel and had to turn back. Those guys earned
their medals. especially the nose gunner. I'll bet those zero pilots were shocked when they figured out that
666 was no ordinary B-17. :salute:

I first read about this long ago in Martin Caidin's book "Flying Forts", the first chapter of which is "Mission over Buka", and is about this mission. The story of Jay Zeamer, the pilot, is also an interesting one. Amazing story. I made a paint of this plane for the FS9 Donationware B-17E a couple years ago.
