Thanks Jagdflieger for sharing. I was just shy of 9 in September 1945. I remember VJ Day. I often think I should have been born in that era. I love the music and have been a WWII airplane freak since those years. My room was full of model airplanes on my dresser and hanging from the ceiling. Used to go with my dad to watch B-17s at Ardmore Airbase in southern Oklahoma. Watched contrails of the B-36 with the distinctive "thud" of their engines/props during the early fifties.

I wondered about the 4 Star too. I checked the web for Freeman Field and found the following link to be of interest.

In my (our) time, the Sixth Army was a Western US unit and was oriented towards Asia and the Fifth Army handled the Central US. Given that Freeman Field was in Indiana, perhaps Sixth Army was in charge of that area back then and thus the visit of its commanding General, if he was the CG and not just a guest. The Sixth Army was deactivated in the mid 90s. I was once offered the First Sergeant's position for their adavance marksmanship training unit, but my branch wouldn't release me due to a shortage of qualified personnel in my career field.
