Another Fw-190 Takes Flight for the First Time

Don Hansen´s Fw-190A-8 Werk-number 173056, flew for the first time yesterday. The aircraft is a combination of the restored original 173056 (fuselage, wings, tail), combined with parts/assemblies from the new-build Flugwerk-manufactured WNr.990004, with the most major contribution being the cowlings/engine mounts/and Ash-82 engine, as used in the Flugwerk reproductions, due to the lack of available BMW-801 engines.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5 (original, with BMW-801 engine) owned by the Flying Heritage Collection, based in Washington
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 (combined with Ash 82 eninge, mounts, cowlings, and other components from Flugwerk) owned by Don Hansen, based in Louisiana
Flugwerk FW 190A-8 owned by Jerry Yagen/Military Aviation Museum, also known as The Fighter Factory, based in Virginia
Flugwerk FW 190A-8 owned by Rudy Frasca, based in Illinois and California
Flugwerk FW 190 owned by Bob Russell, based in South Carolina

Soon to follow:

Focke-Wulf/Flugwerk Fw 190A-5 owned by Dan Kirkland (currently in Arizona)

Eventually:

Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 "White 1", will be the second original example to be powered with an original BMW-801 engine (currently in Florida)

"After ten and a half years of restoration, Fw190A-8, werk nummer 173056, took to the air on Sunday 2011, October 9, for the first time in 68 years since wrecked in a French rail yard during the late years of WWII. Owned by Don and Linda Hansen's engineering company of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and flown by test pilot Klaus Plasa from Munich, Germany, two flights were made that day, the first a short flight to test flight characteristics and systems, and a second flight to include maneuvers and stalls shown in this video. Additional test flights will be made to expand the flight envelope of the aircraft and to check systems reliability."
