Team BOC's Jason Bright gave NASCAR great Darrell Waltrip his first taste of a V8 Supercar today, taking him for some hot laps around Mount Panorama.
The four-time NASCAR Champion was clearly thrilled with his high-speed passenger ride.

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/portals/v8/img/news/2011/10/dw/1.jpg

"There is not a rollercaoster ride that matches that, the only thing we didn't do is get upside down!" said Waltrip on returning to pit lane.

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/portals/v8/img/news/2011/10/dw/2.jpg

"The corkscrew (referring to the Dipper), I've never experienced anything like that and Hell Corner well yes, that will scare the hell out of you!"

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/portals/v8/img/news/2011/10/dw/3.jpg

"I am exhausted, what did we run 5 or 10 laps?" he asked Jason (it was in fact just three flying laps).

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/portals/v8/img/news/2011/10/dw/4.jpg

"We went across Skyline and into the dipper and I swear there's no way you can make it, and Jason is over there laughing! I couldn't do anything to him because I didn't want to upset him or make him mad!

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/portals/v8/img/news/2011/10/dw/5.jpg

"It's a whole lot different when you're in control, all I could do was hang on!"

Waltrip and Mike Joy will call this weekend's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 live on the SPEED Network in prime time through North America.
Walltrip is a NASCAR Hall of Famer. He will be joined by fellow racer Calvin Fish and Aussie Leigh Diffey for Sunday's telecast.

Rain???
They certainly do, being early Spring it can be hot and dry, damp and cool or pouring rain and icey.
Right now, final practice is being run with a damp circuit across the top of the Mountain and a dry bottom section ....... normal Bathurst weather.

I like to watch them 4 wheel drifting in the dry....it's sit on my arse day Sunday, and everything else gets put on hold.

Edit : top 10 shootout looks pretty conservative, heaven help anyone that puts a wheel or 2 onto the grass, end up as a big slippery slide.

Yeah...the way that top 10 shootout panned out I wouldn't have been surprised to see them revert to the last qualifying session times for the grid. Far out...we have our own track side reporter.

thanks wombat,,love the pics,,,,im used to the billboard sized numbers on the nascar and american cars, the small numbers on these are hard to pick out,,,,,but who should i watch tonight?.....name,car number, and sponcer,,,also i noticed in the pics there were several Holdens, what is the dominate car make?

commidor and falcon are cars? are they both holdens?

October 8th, 2011, 12:16
Dave: Holden is the Australian label for Chevrolet.

In Australia there are two kinds of men:
Ford Falcon men, and Holden Commodore men.

The numbers on the race cars are small because they are just temporary stickons - during the week they are used by sales reps to sell women's products :running:

Go the Holdens and go the Wallabies this afternoon....just had to chuck that in for Wing.

Edit : Weather radar is looking a bit sus for later afternoon...cold front on the way, don't know if it will get that far north during the race today ??

A great race with a real nail biting finish. I love endurance races that are that close after so many hours of hard racing.

It finished just in time for the F1 to start too. It's 2:12 am here and I feel it's going to be a long night!

Mate you missed one bloody good race!!!!!!
:banghead:

BATHURST is built on history and statistics and yesterday’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 threw up a range of telling numbers.

* Nick Percat is the first rookie winner of the race since Jacky Ickx in 1977. He becomes just the third rookie – after Ickx (1977) and Rauno Aaltonen (1966) to win the race at Bathurst.
* The win was the Holden Racing Team’s seventh Bathurst 1000 win after claiming victories in 1990, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2009.
* Holden claimed its 28th victory in the Bathurst 1000.
* The Holden Racing Team won its 200th all-time race since being established in 1990.
* The finishing margin – 0.2917s – was the closest in history between competing cars. The previous closest was 0.5868s in 2006 between Craig Lowndes and Rick Kelly.
There have been two 1-2 ‘form finishes’ in 1977 and 2010 where the cars were closer going across the line, but they were obviously not competing with one another in the run to the finish.

* Cameron Waters broke Paul Dumbrell’s record as the youngest-ever driver to start the Bathurst 1000. At age 17 he broke it by just one week.
* There were nine different teams in the top 10 at the finish of the race. The Toll Holden Racing Team was the only team to have two cars in the top 10.
* Allan Simonsen became the first international driver (not including New Zealanders!) to finish on the podium in the Bathurst 1000 since Swede Rickard Rydell and Brit Matt Neal finished 1-2 in the 1998
AMP Bathurst 1000 Super Touring race.

* Second place for Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife gave them their 10th Bathurst 1000 podium finish each. That brings them both to within two of record-holders Peter Brock,
Larry Perkins and Jim Richards (12 each).

* Amazingly, Lowndes and Skaife did not lead a lap all day.
* There were 19 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race – that equals the record set in 2010.

49791

After 1000K this was P1 and P2!!!
:applause:
