Last week I posted about the latest little project I decided to start messing with. I like to have something I can switch over to when I hit a point on the P-61 where I need to take a break. After a week it looks like this...

Nope, you were right! :salute:

Long wingspan..was there a motor gliding variant?

N2056
September 20th, 2011, 16:20
No, at least not as far as I know. The original design used a VW engine, and had a stall speed of 46 kts with a cruise around 100 kts, and a max of 120 kts.

The PZL-1 is a great lookig little bird, a baby SF260. A mate had one a few years back, painted up in ROCAF marks. Go to airshows with it and get spotted in the warbird park next to all the big iron. Fun little airplane to flog about in.

Check IGA Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?iga/) and ALDI Catalogue (https://www.ladysavings.com/publix-weekly-ad/?aldi/).

Did anybody mention PL2?

I started this FS9 model back in 2005. Ran out of steam and it's been sitting in limbo since then. I know. Shame on me. :gameoff:

This week I did a lot of re-sizing things after I imported Mr. Robo Pilot (the Thorp guy) and found out he didn't fit too well :icon_lol:. I also finished the tail group, added the tail wheel, and now that I'm pretty sure the fuselage & tail group are final I have started mapping. :jump:

I know that once you have a chance to actually look this plane over it looks nothing like it, but my first thought was the Cri-Cri, lol. I have a lot of reference material on it and have started to try it many times as my first GMax project, but I'm still having trouble with the beginning GMax tutorials, lol. Maybe someday. In the meantime though, this one is looking great Robert, another fun ride, especially with your eye for detail. Keep up the great work.:applause:

Thanks for the comment. I've continued to work on the model and mapping keeping in mind all of the things I learned while fixing the mapping on the Thorp after getting humbled by OleBoy's paints from h*ll. :icon_lol:
Here's a somewhat finished paint. It's totally fictional, and was meant to try and "force" any mapping issues.

Here's this week's pic. I put on a prop and started working on the rivets and panel lines that will be used for the bump map on the fuselage...

This week I managed to find some old articles from assorted magazines from back in the early '70s. This pic has been a big help in laying out the bump mapping! That's Pazmany in the pic, and the tail that Dad built for him.

Robert, the more I see your progress on this one, the more I like the looks of it. After seeing and experiencing your progress of the Thorp to final release, I was, and still impressed with it every time I take it out of the hanger.

I'm looking forward to seeing the end results :icon29:

While I appreciate the comments I must point out that there are a lot of folks out there doing this that are much better at the craft than I am. Guys like Piglet, Lionheart, N4gix, Gibbage, Chuck Jodry, krazycolin, and many others that have made their mark high enough to give me inspiration to keep getting better. :icon29:

Actually they do Robert. If you enlarge the posted image you can see them. Granted you have to look close, but follow the seams across the top of the fuselage and down the sides and you'll see them, that's why I commented on the nice detail work. It's gonna be a beauty!

October 17th, 2011, 11:47
yup. I'm doing the dynamics :) .. It'll be a challenging plane because little planes are effected by various forces much differently than larger planes do, and I'd like to explore that and learn about them..

Here's the first go at a panel. The ASI and VSI will get new faces to better reflect the performance of this plane. I'm also thinking the fuel level should go under the clock, and move the tach up some. It's a pretty busy panel...part of the "what if" fun! :salute:

Hi N2056,

This looks great Btw! :-D I was wondering though if you were planning on making all the radios in 3-D? The obsessive compulsive genes inside of me want continuity.. :running: It does look good as is now, and it is nice to see an aircraft in sim, which is not well known about. Keep up the great work! :-)

Craig :-)

That stack is the default MS stuff. I used them to work on the panel layout. I've put the 3d knobs in the same as MS did in their vc setups, but ultimately I think I will end up making my own units in full 3d using these as a guide.
Thanks for the kind words! :salute:

Paul had a computer crash, and I snapped my lower back again so we've both been out of it for a whil;e. Hes pretty much up and running and I'm at least able mto sit up for a few hours, so we're back and almost full steam on this and other planes as well..

Man oh man I love these little planes. For the longest time in FSX I have flown fast fighters and such, but the closer I have come to starting my quest for my PPL, I have found I love flying these types in FSX. I loved the Thorp as well, but am looking forward to the PL-4!

I still need to go by the Museum and snap some new pics of what I think is a PL-4.
Thanks for your continuing efforts!
