Odd, It times out in Firefox and Ie on the file library and forum. Everywhere else works ok.

Weird issue I'm having is that I can only connect to AVSIM during the day. I work late evenings/early morning, and if I try to download something from there after I get home, no joy. Chrome, Firefox, SeaMonkey and IE ALL say they cannot connect to library.avsim.net. By the time I get up around noon, I'm good to go for the afternoon's downloading....

Strange?

I use Firefox and visited there last night (12+ hours ago) and just a moment ago and it worked ok.

Certainly something odd I cannot get Avsim by any means today whether by links or Google search or Yahoo search, loads of links are provided but they all time out for whatever reason.

Maybe leave it and try again tomorrow.

Many thanks.

Last night we had some storms blow threw here that put out a large amount of lighting that messed up the local Bell system. Most of our internet connection equipment goes through AT&T and other telephone providers. Even cable internet at some point in time transitions to the telephone providers because they control the backbone.

While they (we) always try and have redundancy for failures Mother Nature does not give a rats *** about redundancy. Lightning just rips through both the primary and redundant equipment at will.

This could be the reason why you can not get to AVSIM but can get to SOH and other sites.

To test if this is the issue open a command window and type

ping avsim.com

You should get a reply from their server that looks like this

C:\Documents and Settings\DD26-X>ping avsim.com

Pinging avsim.com [205.252.249.58] with 32 bytes of data:

If you get "no reply" then that means your segment of the internet can not reach the server or the server is down. Since others can get to AVSIM we know the server is up.

If you get a "could not resolve host name" message that means the problem is with your Providers DNS server. If that is the case you may want to contact them but I warn you they will have you doing the stupid customer tricks that have nothing to do with the issue. They have to follow the script for trouble shooting they have no technical skills.

In any event don't worry it will only be temporary odds are good someone is working on it.

In my case its time to head to work and test the circuits they fixed last night after the storm. I went to bed late last night knowing when I got up it would either be working in the morning or it would not either way I have no control over the problem.

Here is another trick to find the problem

open a command window and type tracert avsim.com

That is the trace route command. It will show you every step it take to get to a server limited to 30 hops by default.

C:\Documents and Settings\DD26-X>tracert avsim.com

Tracing route to avsim.com [205.252.249.58]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms launchmodem [192.168.10.254]
2 20 ms 19 ms 21 ms adsl-65-8-119-1.mia.bellsouth.net [65.8.119.1]

While each visitors experience is unique the servers themselves have been behaving admirably , the recent PMDG release has regularly seen some 1500 + forum users online at one time.

The Tech Guys were getting pats on the back from the BOD for how well its all been running, Stats for Sept show that the sim season is back as well, a typical saturday morning will see some 80,000 downloads .
