Hello,

There's few minutes I've found this new : Carenado Cessna C337 Skymaster for FSX Released...

http://www.carenado.com/CarSite/Portal/index.php?accion=product&correl=62

The big problem this aircraft is the price: 10,000.00 $

Please, anybody has understand the expensive price (error ?) and if this addon is available or not ?

Bye Skull.

Look closely at the Carenado site. It states in numerous locations that the plane is "not yet for sale" at the time of this writing (around 3pm US Eastern).

The price is likely a placeholder to prevent people from trying to purchase it ahead of time. I suspect that the plane could be released extremely soon due to this layout.

How are the flight dynamics? I believe this is the first Carenado release with Bernt Stolle in charge of the FDE.

It sure doesn't feel like their typical flight model. The effect the flaps and gear have on the plane is a lot more believable than most of their other planes. The thing doesn't take up an unrealistic amount of runway either. I haven't had much time to fly it yet though...

On another note...

Why on earth did they cut out the doors and put them somewhere else on the textures!? It is like Carenado purposely makes it as difficult as they possibly can to repaint their planes.

Hi,

Does anyone know if the GNS 530 in the Skymaster has a terrain map?

Thanks,

Joe

Barfly
September 1st, 2011, 18:50
It does have a terrain mode, the switch for which is labeled properly on the pop-up GPS head. If you look just from the VC, the Terr switch is labeled VNAV (but selects Terr mode). Just flying around virtual Florida couldn't see if the terrain properly shows elevation, will check some hilly areas tomorrow.

I can't say for sure but it probably just uses the default GPS's terrain page, which is nothing like the real GNS 530's. I use the Reality XP version (which is essentially the real unit) so I don't know much about Carenado's implementation. I would highly recommend it!

Thanks, watching Cirrus N210MS' video all you see are two pages in the Nav Page Group showing on the GNS 530 in the VC. The page showing in the video isn't a Terrain map, it's the default Nav first page. According to the research I've done there should be five pages in the Nav Page Group. I'm interested if the Terrain Map shows up in the VC. I'm not a big fan of flying around with pop up windows open. Can you see the Terrain Map in the VC without a pop up window open?

Hi,

Thanks,

Joe

As someone mentioned in an above post, the map mode in the Carenado Garmin 530 is just a copy of the FSX world-map graphic - Carenado have made it easy to incorporate the aftermarket RXP GNS 530 (if you already have it installed on your comp) and that has a nice map mode that very easy to use from the VC display.

you take the words right out of my mouth...

Still, it remains a beautiful model, you just don't want to do any complicated paintjobs on it (like mine...)

Carenado's history with paint kits is nefarious. I can only speculate that the reasoning behind them not including one, goes back to the basic perception that in flight sim, like in the real world, in general, your flying a plane with someone elses idea of a livery on it.. This spans across Commercial, military and general aviation offerings. Another reason for them not including it may possibly be that they simply dont want to do the extra work of zipping up their in house paint kit. Its personally put me off buying a great many of their products, and i can speculate with some assuredness that i'm not the only one who has been put off by it.
FS allows us to not only fly a plane ( in a virtual sense of course )but fly the planes painted in a way that we personally enjoy. That is, for many of us after all, part of the allure to Flight Sim. if the only paint job offered was say, a death rock based rendition of the cacophonous blend of colors seen on an Indian bus or a Philippine Jeepnee , i rather doubt they would sell many copies. I'm not certain if they do not grasp that concept, or just dont care. Either way, its really frustrating..

The lack of a paintkit is no problem, really, since they provide an all white paintjob, and it real easy to make paints using that. Just check my v- tail or caravan paints if you don't believe me. If you don't know how, just send me a pm.
The Storch has a light grey base texture, and that makes it much harder...
The problem here is the layout of the textures. There are bits and pieces all over, making the drawing of a simple straight line on the fuselage a nightmare if it crosses those pieces... It's a bit disappointing, since a lot of those problems could have been avoided with a different texture mapping. Making that Red Bull paint will be an extremely frustrating job, getting all the lines connect...not my cup of tea really, I do this for fun.
In this respect, I think the best paintkit/ texture layout is that of the WBS P-51, outstanding job by John!

I'm dying to know the answer to that one too, as I enjoyed FSD's ported over 337/O-2. This one looks very nice and a must have for me, regardless if it has an older cockpit. A gunsight would ultimately complete the package too.

60s style, not quite the same as a 60s panel..
things we had in the 60s ( late 60s like 69-73 ) that fit:
Liquid Crystal Diodes. used for numbers and letters and quite the expensive little luxury. Cheap plastic faceplates with even cheaper chrome coating on the raised portions.. Ribbon instruments, but not digital..

things that dont fit:
anything digital..

Is there no manual for the 337? There are various checklist and such, but nothing specifically discussing everything within her. It is a beaut of a plane and the sounds are what I remember as a kid growing up.

Ultimately, was trying to find how to work the autopilot, not all buttoms seem to work or perhaps it's operator error.

The autopilot seems to be the one thing that's not documented at all. What is it you're trying to do? There's a discussion of it over at the official Carenado forums that has a lot of useful info: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/347186-c337-autopilot/

pilottj
September 4th, 2011, 17:59
The autopilot took a little to figure out, but i flew an autopilot ILS approach using an approach plate no problem. To change altitudes, use the little pitch wheel next to the master switch below the throttle quadrant. a few spins of the mouse scroll wheel to set a pitch, then when reaching the desired altitude, press the altitude button on the AP panel. I would assume on the real aircraft there would be an AP kill switch on the yoke, so you should either map one to your joystick, or just pan down to the AP master switch to shut it off when you reach the MDA

Bill, thanks for the link to their forum regarding the AP. Basically, I was just trying to get it to engage the way I normally woul in other GA planes by simply clicking on the autopilot and selecting the NAV setting. I'll tinker some more with it tonight and this week.

Any chance of any painters doing one or the other of these schemes? I remember being a kid in Germany seeing the all grey variants from time to time, usually during REFORGER exercises, they were always so cool.

You are forgetting their T-34 Mentor...

I remember i wrote them a 'thank you' after their first Bonanza release. Just for fun i asked when the Mentor would be released ( by that time Carenado had not mentioned one word about the Mentor...), expecting nothing. Proved they were way ahead of me. I got an answer back saying that the Mentor was in the works, only a couple weeks more until release...

Write them a thank you note for their excellent 337 and just casually ask them about the O2. Good chance it might work again.

I was always curious why the O-2s had their spinners removed. Better cooling? Weight? Quicker access for hub/propeller removal and replacement?

According the unofficial Carenado support forum at Avsim, a service pack is now available.

Released September 7 2011, 1700 GMT

Modifications:

- Low RPM sound loop issue was solved.
- Clickable area of the GPS was extended (now covering the entire screen).
- Differential braking scale was adjusted.
- Correction to the brakes map for braking with left or right wheel independent.
- Door´s screw remained static and didn’t move with the door. Now it is fixed
- Statics elements were adjusted to the level of the ground.
- Thermometer had a bug and was indicating wrong temperature. Fixed.
- Pop-up GPS showed a different button from the one in the VC. Fixed.
- MPH airspeed indicator marking (inner circle) was adjusted.
- Some corrections to the description of the aircraft were done.

We also added the autopilot on/off switch to the Autopilot light indicator because many people don’t find the autopilot switch (which is located below the power section). Now both work as autopilot on/off switch.

The Service Pack is available at our webpage for all the customer who have bought the aircraft.

**This is a private update, so you need to log in first.**

NOTE: After applying this service pack the aircraft will go back to its original configuration with the Carenado GNS530.

You only have to run the corresponding application to configure with your Reality XP configuration.

You don’t need this Service Pack if you download the aircraft after September 7, 2011 at 1700 GMT.

Hello,

Congratulation for this incredible skin, I really like your work.
But I've a little question for gradyhappyg (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/member.php?73776-gradyhappyg) about the wheels's doors, if I said no mistake with your skin there's no a texures for your "wheels's doors", for me your "wheels's doors" are black and without textures...
Is normal ?

Please can inform me about these skins ?

Best regards, Olivier.

Here a comparaison with your work and the original aircraft:

Seems you are right Skull. Good eye. Same thing with the OD skin. Guess I didn't check the gear doors while they were retracting. That happens kinda fast plus they are kind of dark anyway and I missed it on the texture sheets. Rookie painters LOL! Have to go back and find the inner gear door textures and perhaps go with a more fitting military zinc chromate green. Give me a couple of days and I should have it fixed.

There is a patch out at Carenado's site for the 337 to fix some issues. Over on there forums at Avsim are somemore fixes too.
Fromw hat i see with the default texures that come with it the inside of the gear doors and wells are black.

Yes. It works the same way as in the default planes like the Baron etc.
If you have tooltips enabled and you pull the prop lever fully back, you can see that it reads 0% and not (yet) feathered.
For the final few inches of prop lever travel you need to use the key combo for 'decrease RPM' to make the prop to actually feather.

I guess MS implemented this 'feature' to avoid accidential feathering by just pulling the lever too far aft.

warchild
September 10th, 2011, 11:23
I have to concure with BStolle on this. I was working on an airplane once that is famous for its ability to back up, using props alone, and it drover me nuts for over three months. I'm afraid that even with my most imaginative programming, all i got was a mess.. There's simply no way around this. Ctrl-F2 is usually set up to rapidly reduce rpm. It is also the normal key combination that will reverse the props. But you may want to take a look at your button assignments..

CTRL F2 did it for me. Never had a clue that it worked the same as F2 for reverse thrust on jets and turbines.

There's no problems, you know it's not easy to created the skins for this new aircraft and this little textures's problem it's nothing...

These are indeed painted windows on the texture, based on some real-life photo's. The effect was better that i hoped for, still it is still a sort of O-2A wannabe :-)
