I figured I'd take a flight from Otis AFB, Cape Cod, down to Dover AFB, Delaware. According to weather reports, the area around Maryland and Delaware was getting some pretty stiff winds and I wanted to see "first hand", what it might look like in the Sim. Aside from the pretty clouds, the winds were less than spectacular. . .averaging around 15kts. The highest winds I experienced were off Long Island at around 40kts. I varied the cruise alt from 10,000, down to 5000 and experienced no real differences with REX running. I guess I should have tried with the default weather engine as well, but I didn't want to find out that REX wasn't able to model the real world weather like I always thought it did, lol.

Anyway, what follows are some shots of the flight:

Had you got 'download winds aloft' checked in the realism settings in the sim? I think it needs that setting to get the high altitude winds.

Well, gauging clouds and rain along the route, I might not have ventured far enough south to really get into any severe weather. Despite what the weather folks are saying, most of the really nasty stuff remains from Virgina south to the Carolina's. I'm sure Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York will eventually get the high winds, but I guess during my flight I was simply on the outer bands.:salute:

I used open clouds when it was freeware and it depicted the eye wall pretty well...http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w295/dharris1_photo/2010-3-15_12-55-28-937.jpg

I flew a route from Cherry Point to Otis AFB this morning with waypoints to Quantico, McGuire and JFK. Winds never exceeded 40kts (and that only lasted a few seconds), average was around 25kts. No rain until I got around JFK and all in all, at least in REX, Hurricane Irene was less than spectacular.:salute:
