Yes, installed fine to desk top. Not a FS pc at the moment, (buggers!) but all files seem to be in place, readme, etc.

Will check in depth tomorrow.

Rich, got it just fine using Firefox and the installer worked perfectly after download. I added my own AICarrier cfg setups with and without escort ships and am getting ready to test it shortly.

Managed to download it but get a message that i don't normally see - "This program is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer."

I have downloaded it to my laptop running windows 7 home prem SP1 32 bit / internet explorer 9.
This messsage is reported by IE9 "View Downloads" list, not my Internet security package.

I can not install currently it as i don't have FSX on my laptop.

File downloaded and installed correctly. Ships load and sail perfectly using AIcarrier2.
Thanks for a great addon.

I had exactely the same message from IE9.
I have analyzed the file with Avast! Antivirus (with up-to-date virus list) and there were no problems at all. Not on a FS computer either, but I suppose you can always install to a temporary folder.

In any case, that new carrier looks superb :applause:

Another winner from flying stations works great in ai carriers, I can see a repaint brewing for my corsair to fit the static aircraft on deck.

You know about this repaint, do you not? (assuming you have the AF model...) I think that's what you had in mind? Might save you some time.

Looks awesome !

Will be installing this today.

A few questions if I may:
- do we use the crash barrier config change that we used for the previous Victorious in each plane ?
- lets say I land on it and then want to take off immediately. How do I lower the crash barrier ? To use the catapult on the Nimitz I have to line it up at an easy to see location, is there such a location on this or is anywhere Ok ?
(Then use shift-I to connect to catapult and shift-space to launch).

Love the escorts !

Thanks a lot to all those 4 dudes involved !

Rich
August 9th, 2011, 21:50
P38man, re your first question read the Batman section in the readme contained in the Victorious folder.

To lower the crash barrier raise the tail hook.

The screenie will give you a idea of the cat hook up position, there is no red light the dark line is the cat track so you can see where to position for cat.

I only use Shift+I to hook up = all FAA aircraft were strop launched no tow bar and shift+space to launch

I am only landing successfully about 20% of the time using the Vertigo SBD on the Intermediate Flight Model.

Getting better with practice and really enoying it.

The batman is great! He signals if you can land or not or need an adjustment.

The Batman signals given are:
Both Hands = Up Go Up
Both Hands Down = Go Down
Right Up, Left Down = Go Left
Left Up, Right Down = Go Right
Both Level = On Centreline/Glideslope

One thing though to get it to work I have a directory under C:\FSX\Gauges called FlyingStations (from installing the previous Victorious - early war model) and I put the FDO.xml in there.

The way I read the instructions was it should be put in a gauge sub-directory under the Panel directory for the aircraft you use which did not make sense to me nor work - the SBD does not have such a directory.

I have this in the [Vcockpit01] of the SBD panel.cfg and it all works
- gauge03 added for first Victorious - early war
- gauge04 I added for the late war version for the batman

gauge00=VS_SBD!Backbone, 0,0,20,20
gauge01=VS_SBD!BackboneLights, 1,1,20,20
gauge02=VS_SBD!BackboneFailures, 2,2,20,20
gauge03=FlyingStations!Hook.xml, 0,0,0,0
gauge04=FlyingStations!FDO.xml, 0,0,0,0

Great job, well done!

I only use Shift+I to hook up = all FAA aircraft were strop launched no tow bar and shift+space to launch

Does that mean I should do a SHIFT+I and then just push the throttle forward then (and NOT do the SHIFT+SPACE) ?

Rich
August 10th, 2011, 16:18
P38man, do SHIFT+I this gets you hooked up, open the throttle the use SHIFT+SPACE to launch

SHIFT+SPACE fires the cat.

Does that mean I should do a SHIFT+I and then just push the throttle forward then (and NOT do the SHIFT+SPACE) ?

P38man
August 10th, 2011, 17:48
Thanks for making that clear. That is what I have been trying to do anyway.

I say trying because I haven't been skillful enough to line up to get on the catapult.

On the Nimitz it is easy due to the length of the deck.

I prefer the Victorious though because it matches the period I am interested in and has great features - the signalling batman and raising and lowering crash barriers all work great. I like the escort ships are nearby.

I will get better at it over time.

Do all your aircraft have a launch assist section in the aircraft.cfg ????

Only using one - the Vertigo SBD Dauntless.

Setup as per the other thread you helped me so much in.

Then that is your problem, give me a bit of time to see if I can sort it out.

P38man

Paste this line at the bottom of the Lights section in aircraft.cfg It will give you a green light just above the deck which indicates the hookup point, you need nave lights switched on to see it

light.xx = 3, 8.0, 0.0, -5.5, fx_navgre , // lug

check your aircraft.cfg for a entry like this, if you have one delete it and copy paste this in its place, if no entry copy paste this into the aircraft.cfg, under your tailhook entry is a good place

[launch_assistance]
launch_bar_pivot = 2.3, 0.0, -3.2
launch_bar_lug = 8.0, 0.0, -5.5

Replace your tailhook section with this

[tailhook]
tailhook_length = 4.0
tailhook_position = -17.00, 0.0, 1.5
cable_force_adjust = 3.0

Let us know how you get on

There is a reason for me not being keen on fixing payware stuff, it lets them off the hook and provides a patch

P38man, Just noticed I omitted to say re the lights line,

light.xx = 3, 8.0, 0.0, -5.5, fx_navgre , // lug

change the xx to the next highest number in the light section.

Yeah, that would make more sense thinking about it, I’d forgotten I’d done that!
I may update the read me at some point...

Just to clarify for everyone if you put the FDO.xml file in the main Gauges folder in a sub-folder called FlyingStations and add this line:

gaugeXX=FlyingStations!FDO.xml, 0,0,0,0

to the [VCockpit01] section of the panel.cfg of whatever aircraft then the batman and the barrier will work as advertised and you won’t have to copy the FDO.xml to all the aircraft. Obviously change XX to the next number in sequence in that section.
Amazing what you forget isn’t it!

mfitch
August 11th, 2011, 21:22
If like me, the Flystations!Hook.xml gauge was added to planes, this can be replaced by the FDO.xml gauge (I found the Hook code inside the FDO code, so I think this is so). I forgot to check and briefly had both gauges on some planes.

P38man
August 13th, 2011, 01:38
sWell I made all the changes Rich recommended including taking out the hook gauge (as mfitch recommended) because it uses the one in FDO.xml.

I have worked out how to land with the hook catching most of the time!

I try to unhook the hook a few times eventually it does after I move forward a bit. The barriers come down.

I am now able to line up perfectly using the nav light on the catapult - thanks Rich!

I then press SHIFT-I and it tells me the catapult is loaded.

I power up and then it comes off the catapult! No catapult launch at all.

If I don't power-up and press SHIFT-SPACE to launch - nothing happens.

Cannot get the catapult launch working (I can do it with the Nimitz no problem).

Sorry I am 99% there, should be my last question!

P38man, I did the mods very quickly last weekend on my mates comp, I had no dropping launch assist and just launching on engine power but it did come up some time ago on a different aircraft, something in the model file I think, if you have that max realism crap set at max pull all those sliders back to zero, It is a load of crap and I never use it.

Try that and see how you get on, will see him again tomorrow and borrow a copy to mess with here with time on my side, it is not a model I want as it was never a RN FAA aircraft and will not take up space on my HD.

MAX CRAP is your problem I think

Rich
August 13th, 2011, 03:46
This thread is about HMS Victorious I think not about a non working aircraft, as far as I can see Victorious works ok unless I have missed something.

Your problem is with Virtigo's SBD I have tried to give a fix which only seems to have partly worked, as far as I can see your only recourse is to tackle Virtigo.

I have helped as much as I can and more than I wanted to.

Rich

P38man

I honestly did not try to hijack this thread into a discussion about the SBD. If you look at all of my posts in this thread in total I hope you may agree but I am sorry anyway.

Rich
August 13th, 2011, 16:02
P38man, sorry a bit harsh maybe not a good day yesterday and away untill tomorrow will look again tomorrow.

I think your problem is with the realism settings the only time I came across what you describe was working on a different plane for someone who had realism set at max which dropped the cat set after 3 - 4 seconds.

If you have realism set to max turn it off and try a launch, Shift+I to hook up Shift + Space to fire.

The realism thing as far as I am concerned is rubbish.

Rich
August 15th, 2011, 20:57
P38man, re the cat launch being dropped having tested on 2 comps I would say it is realism settings, it hooks up ok and drops the cat at max rpm and the plane moves off under engine power only off the deck and into the sea.

Try launching with realism sliders at zero which is where I have mine.

Good idea to get a couple more cat capable piston engine carrier planes to compare.

Yes, the first couple landings are poor: this shows the animation better. For a good landing the guy just stands there.

Glad you are having fun, its always good to see people posting pics and images of things you have worked on.

Yes, the water textures are from REX. The wave effect seems better for oceans than the default.

problem when i land my skyraider on the HMS Victorious when I trap on the carrier my aircraft noses over no matter how slow i land. Can someone help me out?

Rich
August 30th, 2011, 16:54
Who's Skyraider are you talking about ???, the problem is with the aircraft not the ship.

Jetmechanic
August 31st, 2011, 15:42
its a freeware skyraider i downloaded this year or last year. So i dont have the file anymore so not sure whos it was

Rich

I suspect it is Tim Conrads but can't be sure.

Try this Back up your aircraft.cfg, delete the [tailhook] section from the working aircraft.cfg and copy paste this [tailhook] section in its place.

[tailhook]
tailhook_length = 6.0
tailhook_position = -25.000, 0.0, -0.500
cable_force_adjust = 6.0

Rich

OK not a problem two questions are you using max realism ? what was the problem with the settings I gave they work ok for me, ok three questions, is the carrier moving when you attempt to land.

It does sound silly the Intruder is a trike gear I think.

Rich

Jetmechanic, please also post the first entry in your aircraft.cfg under [fltsim.0]

Rich
September 1st, 2011, 23:08
Jetmechanic, when you said you were getting nose over with my settings were you ending up standing on the nose with tail in the air or did you see a bit of nose dip which but you ended up sitting correctly on all 3 gears.

The Hook on the settings you passed me is 3 feet off the aircraft center line to the right which pulls to the right when you catch, amazed you can land safely with that
