View Full Version : Real vs. FSX

So, who out there has photos of real planes, that you took, that represent planes you have in FSX? I'm in the middle of scanning photos I've taken over the years. When I came across this, taken as an NAS Lemoore air show in the 1980s, I realized “hey, I have an Alphasim FSX wingless lawn-dart that looks just like this one!” I have a couple more. I'm easily amused. :icon_lol:

Here's another. The Real one is at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Texas. It was, at least, in the early 2000s when this was taken. The FSX one is from Sky Unlimited. I find it interesting how the two planes "sit" on the ground. The FSX one is leaned back a bit, like I've seen in so many photos of Lightnings in WW-II, while the LSFM one is level. Maybe fuel load?

The planning was to restore it in flying conditions, however the lack of airworthy wings, kept it on the ground. Luckily I can fly it in FSX....

I though I took RLM27 for all yellow. However after comparing the screenshot with the real thing I came to the conclusion the yellow on the wing tips is much wider than I did on the repaint.
The scenery on which I did the screenshot is the brand new Debrecen AB scenry by LHSimulations. The scenery is extremely nice, and has a sort of deserted Eastern Europe atmosphere. I have never been on an Eastern European Air Base, but in my imagination they look like this.
I particularly like the weed in the taxi tracks!

I think these will be the last ones for me.
The MLM Fokker D.VII is one of the last real survivors. This D.VII was used in the movie Hell's Angels by Howard Hughes in 1930 (?). Weird enough this is a Fokker built in Germany restored as a Dutch built one and in the Verkehrsmuseum in Munich they have a Dutch built Fokker restored as a german aircraft....

OMG does this bring back memories. This looks like the ramp at NAS Cubi Point, which is right next to Subic Bay Naval Station. I worked on this ramp many many years ago. Let's put it this way, one of the last times I was there, there were a few A-5 Vigilantes on that same ramp (along with lots and of these A-7s) and maybe even a Crusader and a Phantom or two. The last time I was there they had a Vigilante mounted on a support of a thing, outside the galley if memory serves. This was the most requested duty station in the entire USN. Those were the days. These facilities have been closed down (at least for Americans) since the early '80s.
