:wiggle: After many years of fs9 I'm finally learning to crawl in FSX. Probably the world's last subscriber.
Having sorted fps, diplay sliders, all the usual stuff to my liking, I took a few crafty peeps at what FSX has got going for us...

Canadair cl-215 skimming over the Med.
Ahh! that water...REFLECTION!!! at last! Urge the throttle forward, slight back on the stick, 50, 60ft ease back the throttle. Maintain 60ft...I'm still mezmerized by the water.
Nearing the coast (Northern Greece, summer) no more green fields...dry hot landscape interspersed with marquis. They finally got this right!!!

And so on and so forth.

So now I get a little bolder...get some of the aircraft i've been missing for so long.

First on my list; Dave Garwoods superb looking Beaufighter...

Install, double check everythings where it should be.

Fire up FSX, by now my hands are trembling with the excitement of flying the Beau.

Select aircraft, loading up.
SHOCK! I get bits of a beaufighter and a ghostlike image of the rest....

PLEASE!!! COME ON GUYS, SPILL THE BEANS. What is bono getting wrong now?

Don't know the specific aircraft, but this sounds like missing textures etc. Like there's only the common textures, but not the liveries installed. Did you completely check what was installed? Are you on Win7? Could you give us a screenshot here?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Nigel,
What version of FSx do you have? FSx RTM, FSx SP1, FSx SP2 or FSx Acceleration? To use Dave Garwood's quite excellent Beau, you need to have either FSx SP2 or FSx Acceleration. The service packs (1&2) can be downloaded from the FSInsider website.
http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/default.aspx
You need to D/L SP1 first, then SP2.
Welcome to the fold,
Craig :-)

Doesn't DX10 preview do this with some aircraft? If you have it checked try unchecking it and see what happens.

Al

edit: Cancel that, Nigel, just tried it on my system and DX10 made no difference on the Beau.

I have used the Beau in more or less all possible FSX configurations and I have never experience any problems. I'm currently using Windows7, FSX acceleration with DX10, and it all works as advertised. I have also flown the Beau on my XP machine, agian without any problems.

Perhaps a corrupt download?

Nigel,
I would guess that some part of your system isn't up to spec. The effect you're describing sounds like an overstretched video card or lack of ram. can you give us your pc spec?

I believe I know the problem and have the answer - because I initially had the same problem.

You have made a mistake in installing.

Only it was not your mistake but FSX requires an unusual install method.

Your problem will be solved by reading point 1 - you need to actually run FSX prior to each "upgrade".

1) Install using this method:
http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html
STOP once you get to "You are now ready to make your FSX.cfg edits and TUNE FSX" - ignore the rest.

2) Test it works. Maybe not great FPS but just that it works. Screen resolution same in game that it is on your PC.

3) If you have an NVIDIA card go here:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/

4) Now to setup your FSX.cfg go here:
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
It will do it all for you.

I hope this helps you.

This is exactly what you get when you have not got SP2 installed for FSX. My money is on that you will see the Beaufighter perfectly when you install SP2.

I will second to that! There are display problems with many aircrafts which have been compiled using Service Pack 2 or FSX Acceleration Toolkit while the user has the RTM version of the FSX.
Please download and install the SP-1 and then SP-2 for the FSX. The display problems should be solved and you should get some performance improvement as well.

:salute: I've been offline for a couple of days, and was taken aback by the obviously well informed and prompt responses by all of you Gentlemen.

I'll take the advised steps and return on the results.
In the meantime, many, many thanks to all of you.

Cheers,
Nigel

One other little detail I can recommend is a tweak to your fsx.cfg. I'm not normally one to do much tweaking, but even on my fairly powerful rig I was getting corruption and "shattered" planes before adding this line. It goes under the [Graphics] header:

HIGHMEMFIX=1

Without that tweak, I've had a lot of problems with visual models. With it, nary a one.
