View Full Version : Gmax source files clear out

Get em whilst there hot.

Do what you like with them, but no monies to be made at all from the source files, in part or in whole.

These are the last copies of these files, they no longer reside on my HD as I've had to tidy a lot up with the move to FSx, Gmax is gone and FS9 is cut right back.

Some are quite good, others just bare structures, to be honest it'd take longer to convert to Max than to build new.

Once I learn Gmax, these source codes will come in handy for doing up some multi-lod versions for CFS2.

May I convert these gmax source to FSDS source for some FSDS designer?

Sure, no problem, so long as the readme stays intact and abided by, y'all can do what you like with them.

I spent long enough learning what did what and how this and that animation worked or namings etc in the old days, hopefully these'll help others in the future.

I didnt actually know you could convert to FSDS ?, does it retain animations and texture mapping ?.

No it does not. Only the model itself remains. Depending on how it is processed, there may be a need to split the parts back too....If have imported back and for with the doors and fuselage for the EC-155 with no problems.

Why ?, this is a Gmax clear out not a Max clear out, FS9 is cut back, not deleted. Carefull modeling and naming will allow the P-61 to reside in both sims, converting from FS9 isnt as bad or difficult as I was led to believe.

Granted, specular and bump mapping needs to be addressed but the bulk is convertable with a little effort.

What this one ( attached ) ?, thats a Max file I'm afraid, again I'll try and squeeze into FS9 but a more detailed one will show up in FSx.

To be fair I've so many projects that making them all dual sim will lead to nothing, so only a few advanced ones will go to FS9 as well, new ones will be aimed at FSx.

Where can you get this MDLC?

I don't think you can, If I recall correctly MDLC is one of those reverse engineering utilities that decompiles the mdl and converts to another format. There was a bit of an uproar when it was released and the authors removed that part of the code, but some older copies still float around.

Its one of those tools that can be used to convert legitimate files to new formats, I think the Strike Fighters community uses it to convert FS models to SF series. It can also be used to 'steal' other authors work and rework and claim as your own. It is a tool that needs to be used with discretion and utmost transparency to avoid finger pointing, if used sensibly its a great assert.

I may be wrong but thats my understanding of MDLC, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I've no issue it being used on these part finished source files supplied here in.

Many thanks Michael,

Been trying to learn FSDS for a wee while now, initially making CFS2 conversions of FS8/9 planes. Have been struggling to find time to devote to it, but I'm still keen and released my first conversion recently. These will prove most useful, even if it's just to see how a pro does it. You can learn a great deal from just studying them.

Also like to thank you for your involvement in probably my most used add-on of all time. It's old now, but it got a lot of time. JF Harrier Jump Jet. Your names in the manual. Also thanks for the multitude of others, esp. the V bombers if you were involved. They were, along with the BoB memmorial flight and Vintage pair, the highlights of my many childhood airshows.

I think its best we leave MDLC talk to PMs to avoid possible public 'complications'.

As I said above, I have no issue with it being used on the files in this thread so long as the resultant file follows the readme, if it doesn't and if MDLC is used on other files of mine then I'll probably take a rather dim view.

I just checked the Connie masters and there not as complete as they should be, the texture masters are only partly done and the Gmax meshes are missing the cockpits and VCs ?, not sure what happned there, looks more like a beta back up save, rather than the final product, will try and dig a little deeper to see if I can find some later files somewhere.

Did it list which Trojan ?, I dont get any alarms here, it might be because the file extension for FSDS files is a bit obscure and your virus guard may be picking that extension name up as unknown and flagging an alarm.

Which virus guard program do you use please ?, I will recheck the files again my end, but if others want to run a quick check as well that would help, some virus protection misses some files whilst others pick up different ones, always seems a bit hit and miss to me.

Hi Michael,

thanks for the quick reply.

I got a warning for a Trojan called 'TR/Dropper.Gen' in at least the A-1H, F-4E, F4N and Felixstowe. I might have missed one. I am using 'Avira', a German freeware program, the update is current. Link: www.free-av.de (http://www.free-av.de)

I would be greatful if you could verify it. It might very well be a false alarm, but we're better sure about it.

Anyway, let me say a big 'thank you' for posting your source files. Very generous.

Best regards,
Volker

Volker,

I use AVG at home which is also freeware and has them as virus free. I've also just run them through the works licensed McAfee and they were clean there as well, its probably choking on the *.fsc file which is the FSDS source, maybe the *.sdl files as well, they're not common file extensions so Avira might just be playing safe, I will do an online search for that Trojan as well and see if its linked to certain file extension types.

I think Norton and some others do free online checking of files so I'll check with them tonight.

I would be suprised if they are real Trojans, it is rare for Torjans to hide inside a flight sim file ie corrupt it and then that file still work, some of the files are six years old and stored on CD since then and only put back on my PC the other day, so if its a modern Trojan then it must have been implanted in the upload, in which case the firewall would have picked it up.

You can never be too sure so I will continue to check them.

Check the files on this site, they might have been uploaded here, but I think Frank sent them over to Freeflight design shop as well, though I cant immediately see them, I may still have a copy of some of the files but it'll take a few days to find them, some one else might get here first hopefully.
