I took a jaunt in the Fokker Dr.1 this afternoon...I hope you enjoy! : )

Sitting on the grass at Duxford, in the late-afternoon sun.

Climbing up, it doesn't take long with an aircraft that has three, verging on four, wings, to get up to altitude fast.

Once up, I'm joined by an un-expected 'friend' off the port wing.

My top-speed is hovering at just above his stall-speed.

Taking it down on the deck to see what this thing can do!

Beautiful shots, John!
I wondered how the Mustang could match the slow speed of the Fokker, but then I saw the flaps being all out!

Cheers,
Mark

Thank you Mark!

It was actually done, just this way, at Oshkosh last year, for a unique photo mission. Mark Holliday was flying the Dr.1, belonging to the Vintage Aero Flying Museum, and Vlado Lenoch was flying his P-51D. The airspeed in the sim, was hovering at around 100-105 KIAS (115-120 mph), average, with the DR.1 in a bit of a dive, which I expect is about what it was when doing it for real as well. With full-flaps, the P-51D won't stall until about 85 mph.

Hey John... awesome shots!

I could only find two repaints for this bird, shown here.

Thank you Ted! My favorite scheme of all, actually, is still just the 'factory' scheme as included in the original release of the Dr.1 (as pictured). Though I do really like the "Lola" scheme, from "The Great Waldo Pepper", which can be found at Flightsim.com, by Chris Brisland, with the file name n864dr.zip

All of the repaints in Ted's screenshot can be found at Flightsim.com, under the name Chris Brisland. ; )

What would Rawlings and the other Escadrille pilots from the Flyboys movie have given for a Mustang?

Hi Stiz,

It is REX, and the base theme I use is one of the default REX themese, called "Winter Feelings". With this theme, I have also been switching/experimenting back and forth between various HD cumulus clouds, in the REX 41-57 range.

A lot of time has been spent working to setup the weather in the sim, to get the various looks I want. One thing to remember, is if you want the most brilliant colors/contrasts and clarity, to keep the visibility at max - which also allows the shadows to be the darkest (the amount of clouds above the aircraft, also directly influences how dark the shadows are).

cheers bomber :applause: I'm amazed at the amount of difference in the colours you get when you set the vis to unlimited, if only you get those colours with reduced visability!
