For those who know the background history of the original 78th FG P-51D "Big Beautiful Doll", you probably have been thinking that it would only be a matter of time until this version of it would be recreated. ; )

For those who don't know the history - following his time with the 78th FG, Col. John Landers was transferred to the 361st FG. Along with him came his P-51D, 44-72218. Upon arrival, all of the 78th FG markings were stripped off, though Landers' personal markings were saved (nose art, scoreboard, name on canopy). The aircraft was then painted up in 361st FG colors.

After I get home from work tomorrow evening, there are just a few more things I want to adjust on the scheme, and then I will make it available. Once again, this is for Warbirdsim's "Little Friends".

How about SHERMAN WAS RIGHT which was painted similar to the first BBD.......always liked that plane when I saw it in the squadron signal books.

...
As long as you have the aircraft's data plate.....you still have the aircraft.
Plenty of warbirds flying around (and regular GA aircraft too) that were just data plates and not much more at one time....

Thank you, Tommy!

Sadly the virtual model will be the only one flying now as the actual BBD was lost in an accident this last weekend. Fortunately both pilots in the accident survived. It's been a very rough year for vintage warbirds.

It's already been discussed here, in numerous places, but I'll add again, that there has been a P-51D painted as "Big Beautiful Doll" flying here in the U.S. for quite some time, so there is an example still flying, in the markings: http://mustangsmustangs.net/p-51/p51survivors/pages/44-63634.php

And the 'real/actual' Big Beautiful Doll was of course scrapped 6-7 decades ago. ; )

...I can just imagine some un-informed person, having heard about the crash of Big Beautiful Doll in England, and thinking it was the only one flying in those markings, only to then show up at, or see photos from, Oshkosh, in a few weeks, spotting Mike Henningsen's example of "BBD"...and what that might lead to...

Well, guessed I'm one of those un-informed persons then. I would have never imagined there was more than one BBD . Thanks, that's great news, but I still feel bad for those who lost their beautiful aircraft.
